Template talk:Progress bar evolved
Differences[edit]
So... the difference with the old one is mostly being able to set "global" values using variables, plus a few more params?
It would seem like you're striving to make it backwards compatible (which is great), so it's just a simple version change (it'll be good to note down some sort of change log or versioning on the template page). I probably wouldn't change my current uses of the template primarily because I've already written templates of my own to share values for your params :D The tooltip is pretty cool though, so you might want to showcase that as an example ;) -- ab.er.rant 14:06, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the main difference is that I'm now able to read the template's code :D. Actually it's not 100% backwards compatible, but I tried to make it so as much as I could, so that current users wouldn't be lost. While it's not that different compared to the old version, I think it's way simpler to use (I actually had headaches when I had to figure out which parameters I had to use to get a particular bar with the old system :D). However, I don't intend to put back what I removed, primarily because I think these stuff were design errors, and because I provided a better alternative (better in my opinion anyway). So I guess the best solution is not to update the old template but to make a new one, or else everybody will scream at me (and I hate that). I agree with you though when you say a change log would be beneficial, just so that current users would notice that... they should as well stick up with the old version ;) I'm just joking, but I admit that this template is more interesting to new users than to current ones. Or not. I actually don't know very well how it is used, so the new features might catch the attention of current users, maybe the ones making title tracks templates. Anyway, thanks for your input, I'm gonna add the things you pointed out in the doc and move it to the template namespace, if you don't see any objection. --Funky Jah (talk) 15:32, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Already on GW2W[edit]
This template is already available on GW2Wiki. Here's a link: Progress bar (evolved version) on GW2W. Obviously, I called it "Progress bar" instead of "Progress bar evolved" since I really don't want to see the old Progress bar template on GW2W and want this new one to be the only Progress bar template down there. I will support it at both places until GW2 is released. Thanks. --Funky Jah (talk) 22:18, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
