Template talk:Storybooks nav

I believe this template is the main reason why the book icon images have been hard-redirected to their namesake articles. I wanted to note that I am removing the redirects as they are disruptive to normal wiki usage. If it is deemed necessary to preserve the redirect function for this or other templates, please use the link= parameter for the File: tags rather than exploiting the redirect function for this purpose. For this template in particular, I don't think the images are even necessary, but will leave the decision to update or remove to other users. Please don't remove them. They allow people to click on icons to end up at the appropriate article without having to type anything in the search box. You have claimed that this disrupts normal wiki usage, but you have not actually given an example of how a file redirect might be an issue (this wiki uses redirects on many icons, including Gold, Copper Zaishen Coin, and others).
If you want to adjust the storybook nav to avoid redirects, by all means. However, please don't assume that by removing the main reason you are addressing every usage. 75.37.17.153 23:00, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
The link= parameter accomplishes the same thing for places where it is needed, without disrupting the normal file link. There is no loss in the ability for users to click something and end up where the editor intends for them to go. You'd just be doing it the right way, without changing the basic function of the wiki links. By normal, I am referring to the expectation (in all wiki/mediawiki software) that when you click on an image, it takes you to the image page, unless the context provides otherwise (in which case, use the link= parameter as stated). If this practice is followed for every usage, then it will address every usage. I'm just starting at the most logical place for the book icons. I'm not talking about the coin icons yet, but if that's the case, those should be changed too, or otherwise wrapped in an appropriate template if that would be more convenient. Actually, that's already been done, per {{gold}}, except that it failed to take the step of adding the link= parameter. Is everyone here new to using wikis or what? Here's an example for those of you who don't understand the proposal:

[[File:Shiro's Return.png|16px|link=Shiro's Return]]

That code produces this linked image: Shiro's Return.png Notice how you are taken directly to the article, without the use of redirect? And it's done without requiring a markup hack on the image page. Now put that code in a template, say {{Shiro's Return}}, and you can have that linked icon anywhere in the wiki and type less to get it there. Is there any rational objection to this?
