Template talk:Unsigned
Time parameter added[edit]
Is the time-parameter necessary? -- (CoRrRan / talk) 11:30, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I never use it because I think your time has to be set to the server time to show properly. - BeX 12:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is, is that it was recently added by User:Rapta. IMO it's not 'handy' to copy paste the time of the edit into the template, and I guess server times can make this rather messy too. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 12:31, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
{{unsigned}} and {{unsigned2}}[edit]
Do we want to keep 2 unsigned-templates? I suggest using only 1 template, with an optional parameter for the time. I've come to get accustomed to {{unsigned2}} a lot lately. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 11:14, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Having both doesn't hurt anything - I have no problem keeping them both available. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 14:36, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
subst:[edit]
Why have the subst: in this template? With it, it makes people who are unfamiliar think we actually wrote all of that stuff & it just clutters it up. — ク Eloc 貢 15:07, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- Because this is one of the most highly used templates on the entire wiki. Imagine if we ever needed to change it. The wiki would die for hours. And the sheer number of pages that use this template could make it a target for vandalism. Using subst protects us from that. You don't need to do it yourself - I periodically subst them myself, or even a bot can do it - but it is helpful if you know that you should. - BeX 15:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- Not necessarily. If
$wgJobRunRate
is set to a reasonable value it wouldn't affect performance too much at all. The biggest difference would be that the job queue wouldn't stay empty for a while after the edit of a well-used template (Special:Statistics). Wikipedia for instance has set their JobRunRate down quite a bit. Currently their job queue contains 113,677 jobs. - I myself am not a big fan of substing since it clutters a lot, but I don't feel strongly enough about it to enforce a change. — Galil 22:20, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- And so, it seems a vandal appeared and modified {{NPC infobox}}. I haven't noticed any decrease in performance though. :) It did indeed increase the job queue a bit though. — Galil 01:12, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Not necessarily. If
How[edit]
How am i actually supposed to use this? I know i'd add template --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Username (talk). after unsigned comment but how do i get this ip/user name info? I know im wiki noob but i'd like to help. =) (Limu Tolkki - talk) 23:27, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- Typically, you hit the "History" tab up at the top and figure out which user left the comment that way. MisterPepe talk 23:28, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
auto-sign bot?[edit]
I recently noticed Wikipedia has a sneaky bot that automatically signs all unsigned comments. Is it possible to create the same for GWW? —ZerphaThe Improver 13:34, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Seems like something that would be fun experimenting to write. I'm gonna have a look at this. :) — Galil 13:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
can we get a generic unsigned response template?[edit]
i feel like i am writing the same thing over and over and would find it useful to have a "please sign your comments with ~~~~"- Zesbeer 00:50, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- Completely unrelated to this template; also similar as with all previous notice or welcome templates, usually template'd requests are a bad idea. If you insist to have something like that though, create a page in your userspace. poke | talk 00:55, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- my point was to have that added to the template or thats my point now. we are already going thew the trouble of putting the temple up im just suggesting that we add that line to it as well.- Zesbeer 04:41, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- Huh? What if you add the unsigned template long after the user posted the comment? Or when that comment was inside of a huge discussion. Such a warning-like note would be completely wrong then and only annoy the actual discussion.. poke | talk 16:53, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
- eh its not that long of a "warning" + the "warning" we already have is long... ill just make a template on my user page.- Zesbeer 22:31, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
