Convince three Norn to join the human festival of Wintersday by bringing them gifts.
Quest information[edit]
Objectives[edit]
- Speak with Ebon Vanguard troops in the Eye of the North about Wintersday gifts for the Norn. Number of gifts received: [0...3]
- Enlist the aid of Galbraum.
- Enlist the aid of Brartak.
- Enlist the aid of Helga.
- See Casey Carpenter for your reward.
Rewards[edit]
- 1,000 Experience
- 100 Gold
- 100 Vanguard reputation points
- Frosty Summoning Stone
- 10 Wintersday Gifts
Walkthrough[edit]
Speak to Carlisle Gavenport, Orwin Radcliff, and Allyn Brand in the Eye of the North to receive gifts.
- Give the Crystal Snowflake to Helga the Cub, north east of the Eye of the North entrance.
- Give the Handful of Roasted Chestnuts to Brartak the Glutton, south east of the Eye of the North entrance.
- Give the Vanguard Eggnog to Galbraum the Intoxicated, who is standing in Gwen's garden.
If you are running this quest multiple times on several characters, you can save time as follows:
- Collect multiple copies of each gift by moving them to storage as you receive them. When you switch characters, visit storage and remove one of each.
- Join a party with someone who has Charr-broiled Plans active; all 3 Norn will be located immediately outside the Eye of the North, allowing you to avoid running around the ice lake (the Charr do not become hostile automatically, so you have plenty of time).

Dialogue[edit]
Initial dialogue[edit]
- Casey Carpenter
- "Season's greetings, <character name>! Yeah, I've been stuck with guard duty. It's not all snowmen and snowball fights; sometimes you have to work on Wintersday. Still, we soldiers know how to keep the spirit alive, even in frozen outposts far from home. "Improvise, adapt, and decorate!" as the motto goes.
- I will admit that I could use a few extra hands on the patrol. The scouts have reported three Norn nearby, but I have a suspicion there's more out there under that blanket of white. Hey, perhaps those Norn would be willing to share in both our defensive duties and our celebration. If you spoke to the rest of the troops, I'm sure you could drum up some Wintersday gifts that might convince the Norn to join us. What do you say?"
Intermediate dialogue[edit]
- Allyn Brand
- What about Wintersday can you share with the Norn? (If you do not have Handful of Roasted Chestnuts in your inventory.)
- "I have fond memories of roasting chestnuts with my family while blizzards raged outside. Well, we have constant blizzards here, so I asked a merchant about getting a supply of chestnuts. The cook suggested some northern seasonings that really bring out the flavor. I think the hearty taste of these slow Roasted Chestnuts will fill up even a Norn stomach. Why don't you take some with you?"
- Carlisle Gavenport
- Do you have something to share with the Norn? (If you do not have Crystal Snowflake Ornament in your inventory.)
- "My mother taught me how to make Wintersday ornaments when I was a child...before the Searing. We handed them out to neighbors every year. I made these Crystal Snowflakes for our celebration. Why don't you take some to our northern allies? They're our neighbors now."
- Orwin Radcliff
- What does Wintersday mean to you? (If you do not have Vanguard Eggnog in your inventory.)
- "Wintersday means eggnog...spiked, of course. We don't have traditional ingredients here so I had to improvise. It doesn't taste quite like the nog I remember, but it'll knock you off your feet. Why don't you see if the Norn can handle my Vanguard Eggnog? Now if you'll excuse me, there's a filled mug with my name on it...literally."
- Helga the Cub
- Give Handful of Roasted Chestnuts (If you have Handful of Roasted Chestnuts in your inventory.)
- "Father told me I can only eat what I catch. Needless to say, I am pretty hungry..."
- Give Vanguard Eggnog (If you have Vanguard Eggnog in your inventory.)
- "Half my size or not, I'm smart enough to not accept drinks from strangers in the wilds. Plus, and don't tell father, but I don't really like alcohol that much."
- Give Crystal Snowflake Ornament (If you have Crystal Snowflake Ornament in your inventory.)
- "Such exquisite craftsmanship in such a tiny object. And you decorate an entire tree with these? Hmmm. Perhaps I will join you...right after I look at your Wintersday tree."
- Brartak the Glutton
- Give Handful of Roasted Chestnuts (If you have Handful of Roasted Chestnuts in your inventory.)
- "This is delicious! But far too small to fill up a mighty Norn. A few hundred more might tide me over until I catch my dinner, though. I am hungry now. I will go to your camp."
- Give Vanguard Eggnog (If you have Vanguard Eggnog in your inventory.)
- "You know, not all Norn are incorrigible ale hounds! Your assumptions insult me! Leave at once."
- Give Crystal Snowflake Ornament (If you have Crystal Snowflake Ornament in your inventory.)
- "Look, I don't know who you've talked to, but I do NOT eat snow out of desperation when I can't catch any prey. I mean, who would do something like that? *cough*"
- Galbraum the Intoxicated
- Give Handful of Roasted Chestnuts (If you have Handful of Roasted Chestnuts in your inventory.)
- "Bah! Your food tastes as weak as you. Maybe if you ferment it with strong Norn ale I could stomach this...thing."
- Give Vanguard Eggnog (If you have Vanguard Eggnog in your inventory.)
- "What is this? It's...yes...I can taste it...alcohol! And not nearly as weak as I expected! A tankard or two of this eggnog and I'm sure I'll be feeling the holiday spirit. Where did you say I could get more of this?"
- Give Crystal Snowflake Ornament (If you have Crystal Snowflake Ornament in your inventory.)
- "What is this pathetic thing? Take your useless trinket and be gone!"
Reward dialogue[edit]
- Casey Carpenter
- "All three Norn have come to the Eye? We'll gladly accept their help and share some cheer. Speaking of which, here's a little gift the unit put together for you. Merry Wintersday."
Notes[edit]
- You don't need to fight anything to complete this quest.
- For the dialogue of this quest before Wintersday 2010, see here.
Bug.When multiple party members have items to give to the Norn, only the first to do so will be allowed to hand over an item. The quest will update for all other players, but the quest items they hold will become useless and must be deleted.
Trivia[edit]
- This quest was introduced in Wintersday 2008.
- Prior to Wintersday 2010, this quest was offered by Lieutenant Thackeray and awarded 10 Candy Cane Shards instead of Wintersday Gifts.
- The name of the quest references the three wise men.
