“If you're going to be a Ranger, you'll want to learn how to set Traps. The important thing to remember when setting a Trap is that you can be easily interrupted while doing it. This means that anyone hitting you with an attack while you are trying to set a Trap will interrupt you, causing the Trap to go off without effect.

Skill type. Trap is a skill type associated with the ranger profession. Traps are best utilized as Anti Access/Area Denial: they are characteristically planted on the ground, and its effects will trigger if a foe walks in adjacent range of where it is placed. A trap is easily interruptible.
Except for Healing Spring, a trap always lasts for 90 seconds, and will automatically trigger themselves once that time has passed. When this happens, they can still damage targets that are near the trap.
Most traps cause a small amount of damage and can inflict conditions towards nearby foes that trigger that trap. Any weapon upgrade that increases the duration of a condition will take effect when the trap triggers, not when it is set.
Traps mostly fall under the Wilderness Survival attribute, except for Viper's Nest (Beast Mastery), Black Powder Mine (Deldrimor rank), and Weakness Trap (Ebon Vanguard rank). Healing Spring is the only trap that affects allies, and will always trigger as soon as the trap has been set, as the target activating the skill is always in range.

- Marble Trap, Shadow Tripwire, and Twisted Spikes were to be the first non-ranger traps introduced into the game, but were removed shortly before the release of Guild Wars Nightfall.
