Derek Auvaquin: Derek is a rather regal character. However, he will often think of himself as superior to others, and can be a bit rude at times. He also tends to have a rather large ego. Although, during battle he forgets these petty thoughts and focuses on the task at hand, and would fight with anyone from peasants to kings as long as the battle is won. He was born into a rich Orrian family with one brother; Kalton, and two sisters; Auriona and Deitani. His parents were rather wealthy, and came from a long line of Orrian nobility. Derek had always longed to travel the world, while his siblings were more interested in scholarly pursuits. Roughly four years before The Searing, Derek, accompanied by his father, set out on an expedition to travel the world and to learn new arts. Kalton, Auriona, and Deitani wished to stay in Orr with their mother, for fear of a speculated threat from the North. Derek, due to his large ego, believed he could combat anything that could possibly threaten them from the North, and did not listen to the warnings of his siblings. He travelled to Ascalon with his father and was enrolled in Nolani Academy to study the arts of a Mesmer, as he had expressed interest in manipulation of the mind after speaking with a fellow Mesmer in Ascalon; Lady Althea. Aswell as his studies over the few years at Nolani Academy, Althea mentored him in the arts of illusion, domination, and inspiration. His father decided to use these travels as an opportunity to collect rare artifacts from far off lands and bring them home to Orr to show others in a lavish display of wealth. Derek's father spoke with Paulus The Abbot about a treasure hidden deep within the Catacombs near Ashford Abbey and wished to add this to his collection. Upon foolishly entering the Catacombs alone to horde the treasure for himself, he was struck down by a large group of undead soldiers. His corpse quickly rotted in the poisonous waters as Derek grieved over the loss of his father and only family member outside Orr. Shortly after his father's passing, the Charr launched an attack on Ascalon, destroying much of the Kingdom. The Charr also, unfortunately, kidnapped his friend and mentor, Lady Althea, who he later discovered had been burnt alive. He then saw an incredible explosion and heard horrific news of a disaster that had destroyed the peninsula of Orr in an event known as The Cataclysm, killing the rest of his beloved family. The aftermath of the explosion blotted out the sun for one hundred days. Derek was once a wealthy man of a large noble family, however sadly he is now nothing but a lone Orrian Mesmer aimlessly wandering the world of Tyria. After this series of unfortunate events he vowed to destroy the evils that had caused his family to meet their ends, and any other evils that may cross his path.
