Guild Wars Background

I started playing Guild Wars in June 2005, after dabbling with EVE Online and World of Warcraft. A friend of mine (hiya Shadow!) pestered me into buying Guild Wars and he still owes me seven years of my life back! I own the original Guild Wars (Prophecies), Factions and Nightfall and Eye of the North and have at least one character of each profession, most of whom have completed the game. My primary character was my Monk, Brother Bryder who achieved a full 50/50 Hall of Monuments and God Walking Amoungst Mere Mortals title before going on to play Guild Wars 2.

I regularly organise and manage events and trips within DVDF or with other guilds and friends. I'm predominantly a PvE player but play PvP very occasionally.

Guild

Brother Bryder is proud to be an Officer of DVD Forums [DVDF], a member of the DVDF Alliance and a Senior officer of [DVDF] in Guild Wars 2.

DVDF is a tight-knit community, embracing all kinds of gameplay and has enjoyed some PvP success but are most active and better known within PvE community and the many events we've hosted, including:-

- Christmas 2006 gift giveaway.
- Canthan New Year 2007.  Members collected and presented ingredients in several pre-announced districts for each visit so hundreds of players were guaranteed special event Minature Pigs.  Many turned up to claim their minipet on the day or from the stock we kept for players who missed out.
- DVDF Birthday Party, May 2007.  We held a party to celebrate DVDFs second birthday, filling two International districts in Lions Arch for several hours while hundreds of Guild Wars players came to take part in the lottery, competitions and collect prizes and gifts given out during the party.
- July 2007 Lockpick event.  We were able to purchase thousands of discounted lockpicks after taking ownership of a town and made them all available to players in Lions Arch at "cost" price.
- Wintersday 2007 gift giveaway.  Over 1600 items were given away.
- Canthan New Year 2008.  Members collected and presented ingredients in 76 districts, helping more than 15,000 people!
- Wintersday 2008 gift giveaway.  Over 2500 items given away.
- Canthan New Year 2009.  

DVD Forums were featured as Guild of the Week on 19th June 2007.

Previous Guilds

In the time I've been playing Guild Wars I've been fortunate to have played an active part in some other good guilds:-

Rise of the Phoenix [Rise] (Guild Leader)

Joined shortly after coming to the game. I became Guild Leader briefly in 2005 but left to find a more PvE orientated guild when they became predominantly GvG-focused.

Bravehearts Xiii [any] (Officer)

I spent most of 2005 with [any], the Luxon Alliance which took control of and held the Luxon capital Cavalon.

Angels Symphonys [AnSy] (Officer)

Joined AnSy in early 2006 and remained with them until joining [DVDF]. During my time with AnSy they were winning and holding Hall of Heros most evenings and, as part of the ONL Alliance (ONL, DVDF, As, AnSy, DotB, LDS, WitB, Myth), controlled Kurzick towns during Summer 2006. Formed the AnSy Alliance when the ONL Alliance dissolved.

Myth Of The Phoenix [Myth] (Member)

I became friends with many people in Myth while in AnSy, before both guilds became allies in the ONL Alliance. I kept an account in [Myth] while they were in the AnSy Alliance but removed it when the account became largely inactive after re-rolling most of my characters on my main account. I keep in touch with my many friends there.

And he is big and butch and not even remotely like a Teddy Bear!!

I like his Prestige Armours but never really enjoyed playing him much before Searing Flames and Sandstorm but now I let him out occassionally for a spot of destructive nuking and have recently been trying to address his shameful lack of skills to allow me to play some other useful builds.

I enjoy playing Mesmer but have never been keen on this character so I rolled a new one during the Christmas 2006 holidays and found Mr Bare a nice comfy chair in the sitting room facing the window of the Mule Retirement Home.

Stumbled eratically through the game with some help from friends in DotB before finally completing Factions with help from guildies.

For anyone who was wondering (or cares), Barakiel is the Hebrew name of one of the seven archangels, one of the four ruling seraphim, angel of the month of February, and prince of the second Heaven as well as of the order of confessors. He has dominion over lightning and is also one of the chief angels of the first and fourth altitudes or chora in the Almadel of Solomon. He is a ruler of the planet Jupiter and the zodiac signs of Scorpio and Pisces. He is said to grant success, good fortune and inspire joviality and a sense of humor. My birthday is in February, I'm a Piscean and the rest fits kinda nicely (ok, ok, I'm not ruler of Jupiter!).

I'm quickly coming to the opinion that Dervishes are "the new assassin" unless something changes radically - like Dervishes become suddenly half useful, remotely fun to play, and less like foe fodder this guy is probably destined for Muledom.

 

Bryder De Buatier

December 2006 Titles Protector of Elonia Armour Mesmer Krytan armor Goals Earn Protector and Guardian on all three continents. Aka "Mini-Mes". My new Mes, rolled to replace Mr Bare. Not sure if it's just that I prefer this new Mes or if being in an alliance surrounded by the buggers has some influence, but I've (re)discovered a love for playing Mesmer and this guy is one of my favourate characters at the moment. The name is derived from Buatier De Kolta, the French illusionist who created many of the illusions still performed by modern magicians. Completed three campaigns and, within a few week, had more skills and XP than his predecessor Mr Bare gained in the 15 months before his retirement.

Aka Ranger Jr. The last char I re-rolled to replace the olds ones on my second account. This guy replaces my old ranger Brydus Bowyer. Completed all three campaigns in normal mode just before hard mode arrived and not really played him much since. The profession has a fair amount of variety; I enjoy playing Confure/Barrager, BHA or trapping from time to time, but never really keeps me interested for very long.

Despite my primary PvE character being a Monk, I loath playing monk or any healing build in HA!

Salvaged his Ranger Obsidian armor after I created Bullseye Bryder on my main account.
