Freebies family Wintersday!
Intro 1
Christmas. As the day approaches each December, many traditions, often attributed to the annual holiday, are reawakened. Examples include "Tis better to give than to recieve", decorating a Christmas Tree together, or leaving stockings out for your children. But one of the most remembered ones is family. Every year, relatives, even if they live across the world, join together one one home to celebrate the "family holiday" together. Together, they make Christmas-by decorating the tree together, giving gifts to each other, preparing the famous "Christmas meal" together. So, this Wintersday, one very special family will join together. One family of 11 members will unite together, and i think you're going to like it. Because when the family of Freebies join together, only one good thing can come from it-Freebies! Join them this Wintersday in the run up to Christmas Day, for these 5 days are for your pleasure. Intro 2
Wintersday 2008. My second ever Guild Wars festival (Halloween being my first and favourite), and my second favourite. On that day, Wednesday 21st of December, a certain Wintersday was coming. People swarmed to Amerian district 1 of Lions Arch, where a very unsual person was fufilling his desting. For that persons name had the meaning "to provide", and on that day, he began providing gifts galore to the community in that town that day.
The decorations were up, and for 7 hours, that person gave gifts. His storage was emptied of snowman summoners, candy canes, fruitcake, eggnog and yuletide tonics. That man, Prepare to Burn, disappeared often, but came back bearing more gifts. For on that day, a certain Prepare to Burn learned the gift of giving.
And since then, since that day, I have strived to do more. That day was only the beginning. And after multiple failures from me, I thought it could be the end. But you the community supported me throughout the next year, and eventually I pulled together again at Wintersday to provide a fairly large giveaway. And throughout this year, you have still supported me, even after I have upset and disappointed some. Because you have stuck by me, I have hosted an event during the Canthan New Year, during April Fools, during the Dragon Festival, my birthday, Wintersday in July, Talk like a pirate weekend and Halloween. And i hope you will support me next year to do more. But before you do, let me thank you with 5 nights of gifts. Merry Wintersday.

All evening events begin at 7pm GMT, and all events are in International district 1 of the town.
The people to watch out for
As a young child growing up in Paijiang Peninsula, Elder Freebies had no ambitions. He was a street lout, doing his best to stay away from his fathers rich life in the medical profession. However, when the eldest brother was taken to Kamadan on a business trip with his father, he found his true career. After that trip, he never left Kamadan for another 10 years. During that time, he studied under Elder Dahut, then head of the Treasury and Resources department.
At the end of those 10 long years, Elder Freebies joined the Council, working for the Festival department. For the most recent years of his life he has worked on getting a promotion to a more influential part of the Council. This happenned last year, when Elder Freebies helped persuade an over throw of a bill set by Elder Skruuj, head of the Festival council. Within 2 weeks, Elder Freebies had become head of the Treasury.
This year, Elder Freebies has been granted some Council funding for a more interesting Wintersday for Istan. He has made the place a Wintersday grotto, where he plans to give away many "Freebies" to visitors.
As a young child, Chef Freebies developed his talent of cooking when he had to provide food for his brothers as his father was often too busy as a Doctor to consider his children. Eventually, his father paid for this son to go to the Monastery's cooking course. He excelled here, becoming the best chef in a matter of days. He was soon promoted to Imperial Chef, serving food to the finest noblemen in Kaineng, most notably the Emperor.
However, the Chef disliked this job. He trained 5 Imperial Chefs, and taught them all one of his signature dishes. He then travelled the world, setting up over 10 restaurants that became instant successes in weeks of opening.
This Wintersday, the Chef pans to teach the people how to cook his 5 newest signature dishes, with 20 sets of ingredients for each person.
General Freebies does not know his father well. During one of his long hikes near the coast, he accidently stepped on a boat, which turned out to be a corsair ship. He lived onboard this ship for 10 years, hidden from sight of anyone. Eventually he got a headache from lack of fresh air and, using the knowledge of combat he had seen from Corsair training onbaord, single handedly killed everyone onboard.
General Freebies worked for the Vabbian army once they heard of his heroics. He led many great soldiers into glorious battles. Over his years, he is said to have taken down demons, Corsairs, Undead, Charr, Harpies, and even an un-named God-with ony the help of 2 disciples.
This Wintersday, the General has been hired by Dwayna , who wishes to gain the upper hand in the Snowball Arena. General Freebies is providing free training courses throughout the festival
This young brother was a close friend to his General brother. When the General was "kidnapped" by Corsairs, Captain Freebies slowly retreated into a mental cocoon, as he tried to deal with the shock. Eventually, he wandered onto a Corsair ship, and ended up kidnapped like his General brother. But unlike his brother, he didnt hide in time. He was found, and trained to be a Corsair.
And here, the Captain became a Captain. He very quickly showed his talent in archery and swordsmanship, and became the first person to become a captain of a corsair ship in just 1 year aboard the ship. He stayed Captain for over two decades, avoiding mutiny with his special Code-steal from the rich, not the poor. He made his life stealing from the stores of gold from Gandara. Once, he successfully managed to reach a secret vault of gold before the Kournans did. However, he eventually retired-by strapping the boats rudder, cutting the sails, and stealing all the tenders.
This Wintersday, he seeks to add a Corsair's touch to the festival-with his Open bar!
Chief advisor to King Thorn, he is the godfather of the Freebies brothers, but they still call him their brother. He is the only known blood relative of Mad King Thorn aside from Mad King Frost, grandfather of Envoy Frozenwind. He was ripped of his soul as Mad King Thorn lost his life to the peasant revolt, and was resurected 50 years from his death by an Envoy.
This Halloween Mad King Freebies reaped his revenge on his relative. Now, he seeks to add a bit of "fright" to this Wintersday.
Mr Freebies took to a life of adventure from the day he turned 18. Since that day he has vanquished great foes such as Abbadon and Shiro, Protected and Guarded the three great nations, slayed beasts unknown to man, become the leader of the Lightbringers and the Sunspears, and earned the title "People Know me".
This Wintersday, Mr Freebies is running the event, with help from his 6 brothers. Come to Kamadan, Eye of the North and finally Lions Arch for this Wintersday's grand event!
Grasp King Freebies was orginally named the Grasp King. During the 1078AE Dragon Festival, he transformed the heads of party attendees, enslaving them-until they found a way to take the helmets off. For the remainder of the season of the Pheonix that year, the community grew a strong bond of hatred with the king, until the day of his execution on first day of the month of Halloween by the Stone summit.
As he had formed a strong allegiance with the Deldrimor dwarves for his work in Sorrows Furnace, the Deldrimor took his decapitated head to Droknars Forge, where it would be kept on a statue to commemorate his life and work. However, the delivery group was intercepted by Stone summit, who took it to Sorrows Furnace and threw it in the Furnace. The magic in the head was released as the stone melted-the furnace temperatures soared to levels higher than anything imaginable by the Dwarves. The heat sealed the exits, leaving the Stone summit present to disentegrate. However, out of the furnace a long silver liquid spilt onto the floor. And from this silver concotion, Grasp King Freebies was born.
Now, with his army in ruins and his flame extinguished, his title of nobility has no meaning. With his fortune found again, he seeks to regain community love and trust, by righting his wrongdoings as his former self, and treating the community to his fortune, by giving it away during his events. This Wintersday, he has a special suprise for the community. Only by attending the event will the true secret be revealed.
This little known figure is the uncle of the Freebies brothers. He belongs to the Order of Whispers, and is believed to be the successor to the Master of Whispers, when he retires. The Master is said to have been around since the beginning of the Order during the invasion of Palawa Joko. His age, country of origin and true name are unknown, however, it is known that he has 3 children.
This Wintersday, he seeks to rally support for the gods to ensure a fair battle. He will be hosting the "Angels and Demons" Costume contest.
First son of Master of Freebies, the Master sent him to the Nolani Academy to train as a Warrior. However, the Warmaster soon got tangled up in the Charr invasion. He was quickly promoted to Warmaster, where he helped to restructure the community in Ascalon after the Searing.
This Wintersday, he seeks to give the Ascalonian community a gift for their hard work, and reward the Ebon Vanguard.
Second son of the Master, Agent Freebies was also sent to the Nolani Academy. But this brother excelled as an Assasin, and was soon taken in by the King's honoured Vanguard. This Vanguard was sent on an espionage mission through the Charr Homelands. However, this mission ended up saving exiles an prisoners from the battlefields of the north. To weary to go on, the Vanguard stumbled through the Far Shiverpeaks, to find a tower-the Eye of the North. They turned it into their base of operations, planning attacks behind Charr lines, resting and healing the wounded and guarding the Scrying pool. Agent Freebies was a favourite for special missions, because of his expert use and knowledge of Shadow Arts, allowing him to pass right under the noses of Charr and free captured soldiers. His fighting skills were also useful, as shown when he trained the elusive Anton.
This Wintersday, he seeks to reward the heroes of the battle for Ascalon through a special Wintersday giveaway for the troops.
Daughter of the Master, she was also sent to Nolani Academy. During one of the ranger training expeditions, her group came under seige from a band of Charr. They fled, and ended up being followed all the way through the Shiverpeaks through to Kryta. At the gates, this Freebies family member pleaded for the White Mantle to open the gates whilst her friends held of the Charr. By the time the Mantle took to arms, her friends had died. The Mantle took Freebies into their care, training her in their ranger arts. However, in a journed to select the Chosen, Freebies realised what she had done. She joined a raiding Shining Blade, and helped them free the "Chosen" and slay the Mantle troops. Freebies then stayed in Kryta, helping the Shining Blade to build up a strong base of operations in Kryta whilst other troops spread to the Tarnished Coast, and to the Henge of Denravi.
This Wintersday, Shining Freebies hopes to reward the heroes for their work helping Kryta, with a special Maguuma Jungle Scavenger Hunt.
The Wintersday Costume contest. The Master of Freebies will be hosting this 2 part contest, involving a section for Dwayna (angel) themed costumes and Grenth (demon) themed costumes. There will be a top 3 in each section, with a judges "commendation" award for each section.
The Wintersday special scavenger hunt. A resident of Cantha has stolen a shipment of extra decorations that were to be used this Wintersday! Like Halloween's great ghost robbery, you must find the thief, and the place of the items! The first 3 people from each of the 2 sections will recieve a reward, which means 6 prizes overall-plenty of oppurtunity to win! Clues will be revealed for several days leading up to the event, with a final vital clue needed to solve each puzzle released on the final days of the competition. Good luck!
As all of you know, Canthan ministers have fitted special fireplaces behind the walls, heating up and melting any decorations from Wintersday, that are left by elves or people. So why not help make a Canthan Wintersday! Simply take a picture of anywhere in Cantha, then add your personal touch of Wintersday! The "Wintersday for all" Texmod application can be used, but you must add your own personal touch to the pictures, or they wont be excepted. Good luck!
