Hard Mode tips, tricks and guides (by Devos50) (If I vanquish an area again, I try to add it immediately)
Hard Mode notes[edit]
Hi:)
I use this section of my userpage to write down my experience in Hard Mode. This contains Mission + Vanquishes. I use the experience from Hard Mode when I do it with my Elementalist. On my Monk, I'm currently not very HM active:)
Myself (ele): I give my Ele a AOE build, but not Searing Flames. You can maybe wonder: 'Why not? It's great damage!', but I always have trouble managing my energy and targeting the best mob for a nice AoE. I just prefer other spells. I make my energy as high as possible and in my build I usually put Savannah Heat with Meteor Shower + Glyph of Sacrifice for burning to nuke the hell out of enemies. With every area you're gonna vanquish, one tip: take Pain Inverter! It's GREAT!!!
Heroes&hencies: I usually take Sab's 3 build (TY SAB!!!), I don't post it here, but you can always Google it, or look up at Guildwarsguru. Hencies are usually 1 healer/1 prot extra or sometimes one less, and the Elementalist or Ranger (interrupt if possible) henchmen. Currently I'm running Discordway. After a long break, I came across this build. So far it worked really good. You can see it at pvxbuids.
Tips and Tricks for Hard Mode[edit]
- The minor tip: ALWAYS try to pull. Take a longbow with you, and flag your heroes and your hencies, so they won't aggro. Sometimes when you think a large mob consists out of only 1 group, it are actually 2 groups (for example the Ritualist boss in Archipelagos)
- You can take AOE damage with you, but remember that in Hard Mode enemies will flee earlier from AOE then in Normal Mode. This make skills like Savannah Heat not very good in Hard Mode, although Meteor Shower is because the knockdown it provides.
- Pain Inverter is in my opinion a great help, especially on Ritualist and Elementalist bosses. Also try to reach at least R6 Asura (It's boring I know...:P).
- What I always try before vanquish an area is looking on internet for tips about it, so you know where you have to begin (from an outpost ok^^), for example: If you're planning to do D'Alessio Seaboard on Hard Mode, take holy damage with you. If you want to vanquish Archipelagos, start from the Jade Flats and begin with the Ritualist boss and the Elementalist boss.
- Try to take out the dangerous bosses first, and let the bigger and/or easier mobs for the last. In the case you get Death Penalty, you can reduce it by killing the easier mobs so you won't get a party wipe with 10 enemies left. This is very common in Hard Mode vanquishes.
- Consumables are your friend:). If vanquishing a very hard area, try to take a Powerstone of Courage, and/or some DP removers with you such as Candy Canes. You can also take some party items.
- Watch out for spawns, especially Devourers and Undeads.
- You can take some lockpicks with you, if you are looking for some money, but remember that a locked chest is ALWAYS guardened. If not, there is a (annoying) spawn.
- You can take a Signet of Capture with you, but it cost you a valuable slot, although you can have 2 elites at the time if you cap straight in the begin. Don't forget to switch profession:P.
- For VERY hard mobs (Ritualist boss in Haijun Lagoon...) you can take a Broad Head Arrow Ranger with you. I prefer to take a human Ranger with me.
- Don't rush and take your time. Spawns and party whipes are everywhere.
- Build your skillbar against the enemies, for example, Fire Magic against Ice Imps.
- Although I'm not fan of it you can use Ursanway in VERY hard area's.
- Often real players are better than h/h. Ask your guild if they wanna join you. There are even Guild that are especially for Hard Mode. You can find these on the wiki.
- If you get a party wipe, don't get frustrated and just think: "This is Hard Mode!":)
- Good luck on Hard Mode!
My status[edit]
I am currently busy vanquishing and completing HM missions in Tyria and Elona. I'm totally done with Istan now (both vanquishing and missions) and I'm completing the missions in the Maguuma Jungle now. After that, I continue with Kourna and after that, the missions in the Crystal Desert.
