The Scroll of Balance A few years before the Searing, a young traveller appeared in Ascalon. Blessed with an affinity for magic, she was believed to have originated from near Ascalon, but the truth of her existence is revealed in a Spiroglyph scroll (A cylindrical scroll of rotating glyphs that only aligns and unrolls in the presence of the intended recipient) that rose to the surface of a pool of water in the Hall of Monuments during the awakening of the dragons. "...When the gods left Tyria, only five of what you now call the "true" gods departed. As you may or may not know, the fallen one, Abbadon, destroyed two of his siblings before being banished. It is not my place to tell you the story of the Sixth... But the Seventh... Is my story. We two knew that in order to rally the others to end the madness of our brother, we would need more than words. Gods are not plentiful, and to lose but one is a tragic case; our siblings would do their best to ignore Abbadon's lesser transgressions. However, I knew that madness and corruption would plague the world we worked so hard for should we not do something. Martyrdom would be the easiest explanation for you to understand, though it was in reality but one step in a grandiose plan. With our course laid out, we were able to force all of our brothers' hands. Abbadon began his offensive, and the others had no choice but to end him. Defeated in both memory and records of your world, our stories did not end there. Our plans accounted for the possibility that Abbadon would not yield silently into obscurity; thus, we incorporated a remedy into our solution. While my sibling took his own path, I, who always sought to balance the world, walked separately. It would take one hundred lifetimes to tell you the story of the scenery I gazed upon while on this trek, but know that I never cast my gaze away from the inhabitants of your 'Tyria'. I walked under the hooded cloak of a simple traveller, observing the world my siblings had left so many years prior. Eventually, I met a young woman called Merumi. Her people, who I will not name in order to maintain their tranquil existence, recognized that I was no ordinary traveller, and in time, agreed to give the child to me so that I might lead her in our grand design to stabilize and equalize Tyria. Unfortunately, disaster struck us shortly into our journey. While departing from the forests, we were attacked by a pack of stalkers. I would not strike down my sister's children, but I swiftly drove them off. Sadly, the child suffered a mortal wound and lay dying in my arms. For reasons not even a god could fully explain, I made the decision to save her... There was only one method available to save this child while still maintaining balance, however... I had to cease to walk the land. I instead walked with Merumi, as part of her spirit. I guided her to Ascalon and into the pages of the Flameseeker Prophecies, and ultimately was able to grant her the power to destroy Abbadon and his minions during his campaign to reemerge in the world of mortals. I granted your human god, Kormir, her abilities myself to prevent the power vacuum that such an enormous loss would create... I would have had Merumi ascend to godhood herself, though the balance would all but shatter if the power of more than one god was to combine. This timeless scroll contains both my remaining spirit and my undying hope for Tyria's future. The monuments before you depict the life of the human, Merumi Windwalker, host to the Immortal Balancer. May these words find the ancestors of this hero; until then, I shall be waiting. Goodbye, Merumi. May you find happiness in your life after I have left you. I will ask your forgiveness when we meet in The Mists; I will tell you the entire story, when we have all the time in the world... I hope you will understand. For your service to the Gods, I grant your bloodline my favor, and my protection. Glory always, Merumi Windwalker, child of men. | ||||||||||
