Let's play a game. It's called "Which one gives you dishonor!" Here's the first round:
A: AFKing a match.
B: Being the last person to die in RA because you run around instead of fighting.
C: Being reported by a leecher.

If you guessed C, you're absolutely right. Your prize: Getting banned for 10 minutes.

BTW If you guessed one of the other two, you've been playing good games too much.

Here's a breakdown of why I have ten free minutes to write this page.

I'm testing Primal Rage in RA. All I want is a monk and 2 other people who know what a party window is. I get matched up with an assassin (so at this point, I know he's terrible at pvp), an ele, and a mesmer or something. We're on D'Alessio Arena (the tropical island one). Before the gates open, he tells the three of us to suck his dick. How nice. I reported him for verbal abuse and waited for the gate to open. When they did, he runs back to the swamp area, runs all the way through it, and stands in the other team's start location while our team gets killed. Here are some screenshots:

I report him for leeching, and tell my teammates to do the same. Of course, I was expecting them to be literate and have more than 2% of their brains working. It turns out I was wrong. I always assume too much of people. The leecher reports me back before he gets killed.

Long story short, the next 2 times I go in, I get the same guy, and each time, I am the only person to report him, and he reports me every time. One time, one of the other guys on my team reported me also, because he thought I was the one leeching. I get dishonor and rage for the day, and here I am.

It's no wonder this game doesn't have an auction house. If Anet made an auction house as well as they made the report system, it would permaban you whenever you zoned into the outpost, and if you typed /jump while selling an item, it would probably delete all your characters.

I'm going to make this very easy to understand, because the people who designed the report system are obviously very, very slow learners. This is a checklist of things to look for when designing anything. Yes, this applies to anything.

  • If it doesn't work 100% of the time, don't put it in a game.
  • If anyone in the world can think of just one way to abuse it, don't put it in a game.
  • If you haven't tested it at all, don't put it in a game.
  • If a bot can do it as well as people can, don't put it in a game.
  • If there's an easier, more efficient, less complicated way to do something, do that instead.

If you make something that fails any of these above tests, please, don't put it in an update, and definitely don't keep it in the game for two whole years.

Addendum[edit]

Here's how pathetic RA players are. Adrin and I synchronized a team in RA. We were both 55 monks, our third member was a regular monk, and we had a mending/HH warrior on our team. Now, this sounds like a disaster, but: User Shard Unfair1.jpg

And here's a screenshot of one of our previous victories, displaying mine and Adrin's skill bars: User Shard Unfair2.jpg

TBH, we were laughing too hard most of the time from me constantly killing our warrior by cancelling UYA. Turns out he knew how to attack while moving (chizuustepping) and was able to drop monks without any support. Most everything else we fought killed themselves because of Shield of Judgment.
