Introduce Ladders for Minigames (Discussion)[edit]
A recent argument on Regina's talk page has got me thinking. Now, I'm not sure the problem with syncing is quite as bad as people think it is, but either way, the nature of randomly-selected teams is definitely frustrating: folks think, "I only ever get into teams full of noobs and fight against teams that are so good they surely must be sync'd, so if I want to win I have to sync." It's a thought that runs through many people's minds, even if most of them never bother to sync full teams on a regular basis. However, some do sync (mostly in sets of two or three) and that only serves to exacerbate the problem. Therefore, I think it might be a good idea to introduce some kind of ladder to minigames. Something along the lines of how HB works: You get matched against (and, in this case, placed into teams consisting of) players with a similar rating as yours.
- Why this is a good idea
- "Good" players (I use this term lightly) won't get frustrated by being frequently placed into teams of "bad" players.
- New or "bad" players won't get frustrated by frequently going up against teams that wipe the floor with them.
- May help reduce the verbal abuse some players suffer from ego-inflated "good" players who can't understand why everyone isn't as "good" as they are.
- Why it may not work out
- Syncing may still be a problem for low-rated players.
- Rating may not be a good enough indicator of an individual's skill if it raises and falls depending on team performance. (However, other indicators, such as the skillz or gladiator title track, would be even worse.)
