New To Wiki

Hi, I'm new to Guild Wars Wiki and was wondering if anyone could give me advice on such things as editing and User Page formatting.

Hello, and welcome to the wiki! Here are a few pages that might help you: How to edit a page, Info on User Pages, and Making your very own signature. I hope those were helpful; if you need anything else, just ask! ThrainFile:User Thrain Sig.pngcontribs 03:48, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Schools of Magic (In Guild Wars 2)[edit]

I was looking around GW Wiki and I found the following at

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Magic

"Magic has four principle schools to it

Preservation

Destruction

Aggression

Denial

The four schools are linked to the four core caster professions – Monk, Elementalist, Necromancer, and Mesmer respectively."

Now we do not know for sure what professions will be, but we do know there is no dedicated healer. So there goes the monk. Although if you consider the possibility of a Paladin/Cleric type class, this continues the Preservation line.

The Elementalist has been confirmed so thats Destruction filled.

Currently there are rumors of the Ritualist and Necromancer being merged into a Summoner type profession so that could be part of the Agression school.

Now the Mesmer, it has been strongly suggested as being included in GW2 (as well as being a rather unqiue class in a RPG) would fill the Denial slot.

Also the page mentioned how the creation of the Bloodstones limited the use of magic in Tyria.

"Thus in current times, beings on Tyria are unable to harness all the potential power that magic offers. Instead they must work together to make the most use of it and accomplish anything large."

Now I don't know if A-Net was thinking of Guild Wars 2 when writing the lore on magic but this ties in nicely with the unite the races and fight the dragon story of GW 2. What I am trying to ask is whether GW 2 would have a profession for the four schools of magic as it did in the first game. --Abbess Katherine 06:40, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

The Effectiveness of the Warrior in Guild Wars[edit]

Now as we all know the Warrior is the profession who has two jobs

  • Frontline DPS

A warrior playing this role will have some survival skills but will generally bring the most powerful attack skills available to him/her. Strength is a great help here as it gives Armour Penetration which gives the Warriors' attacks more damage. This type of Warrior also doesn't need to change their skills that often when competing in PvP or not at all (when tanking a turtle in Fort Aspenwood.) Both the DPS and to a lesser extent the Tank Warrior serve as a major distraction to all casters in PvP due to the high damage or the energy taken to kill them. So, a DPS warrior supported by a Monk is a very dangerous adversary.

  • The Tank

Each group in PvE usually will have one or two Healer, one or more Tanks and the rest of the slots filled with damage or utility professions. Now this type of Warrior with the right skills can be completly invincible, using high armor and health to give them one of the highest rates of survival possible. In places like Urgoz's Warren the tank is a must to bring.

The above seems reasonable, right? Now here is where the Warrior can become the most useless profession in the game, just blind, weaken or hex them and they die. Out of the ten professions the Warrior is the only one who is completly reliant on their secondary profession or the party healer to keep them able to fight and therefore does their job.

  • Classes able to remove any condition

Monk, Ritualist, Necromancer and Paragon (The Paragon's Condition removal is either Eilte or conditional)

  • Classes who are able to remove/lessen duration on self

Assassin, Ranger, Dervish (Dervish with Featherfoot Grace)

  • Classes unable to cope effectivley with conditions

Elementalist, Warrior and Mesmer (While unable to remove conditions on them Mesmers have some skills to spread any condition from enemy to enemy e.g Fevered Dreams and Extend Conditions.)

Now lests look at the last three professions.

The Mesmer's only self condition removal is Illusion of Haste, it gives a +33% IMS and removes crippled (while being non-elite). The only condition that can totally shut down a Elementalist is dazed, but this can be countered by using Glyph of Concentration.

Now the Warrior, THE ONLY CONDITION REMOVAL THEY HAVE IS CHARGE!. While it removes crippled from all ALLIES, it does not remove the two most dangerous conditions to a Warrior, Blind and Weakness.

Now I don't hate the Warrior but only believe that anyone playing one must be aware of the Warrior's fatal flaw.

To sum it up the Warrior must bring a self condition removal or make sure that the healer/protector removes the conditions.

+1 (bug fix ftw)[edit]

Today's update is supposed to include a fix to the Lamentation bug that you reported. Gz (and thank you). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:04, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
