Guild Page Move
Appreciate it. Trying to walk some people in my guild through noob wiki stuff, I wondered when someone was going to say something about it just being HDK instead of the full name, lol. Back to educating them --Toxictaru 16:57, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Put Izzy's Feedback page on the Main Page?
Who is going to find the pages with user comments on the latest updates? E.g. the current one: User_talk:Isaiah_Cartwright/Update20071108. I see some problems if everyone and his daughter posts there, but also a lot of positive input getting lost if it is so well hidden. --Longasc 01:43, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Izzy's feedback sections on his pages are an unofficial "service", even if they're fairly widely used now. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 01:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Merging God Userboxes
This is not that important of a deal but I recently I made some userboxes for the gods.
Here(The "<godname> follower" ones):
Category:Users who favor Balthazar
Category:Users who favor Melandru
Category:Users who favor Lyssa
Category:Users who favor Grenth
Category:Users who favor Dwayna
I mainly wanted to use these boxes myself at first but then decided to "upload" them for all to use. I notice you tagged them with the merging suggestion. How do you suggest they be merged? I have no problems with just deleting them or replacing with one or the other or whatever you had in mind. I can't say which ones are better either. Hopefully I'm not just causing you any needless headaches with such a simple matter. Not to mention you did tell me before that there were a lot of these god userboxes already yet I made more... :P - nian 19:57, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- My thought was to make some kind of base template of them all, with some more customizability than there currently are in any of them. Most of the different god templates are basically saying the same thing, just with different words. I thought maybe we could make a standard text, that could be easily replaced by placing your own text in a parameter (like, "text=This user is a Lyssa-lover"). This way, there would only be one name to remember when you wanted to place a god userbox. But it might also be a bad idea, I'm not sure. :) - anja 20:18, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I like that idea! It would be nice to be be able to change parameters easily however you wanted and still be listed in the "Users by God" -category, sort of like some of the character templates for user pages work. Although I guess a lot of people will just want to insert the simplest code possible on their pages and I guess people who like editing(like me <.<) could just put the full code on their own pages. However this is where my understanding of wiki code hits a hard cement wall. Meaning I have no clue how to make the above "easy-parameter change template" possible. :P - nian 20:35, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- We could make it work like if you just put in {{User God Lyssa}} (example name, we'll find something better), you will get the standard box. Only if you want to you can put in extra parameters and have it say something special for you. I think I have an idea how to make it work, I just don't have the time atm to try :) If you want to try yourself, I would recommend starting at Meta's template help and navigate around from there. Else I will look at it as soon as I have more time :) - anja 20:41, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I just noticed your user page update. Real life is most important so take care while you are on break and have fun. :] I have to agree that sometimes the atmosphere of any wiki really gets a bit too hectic. I usually just immediatelly backtrack then and start thinking do I even want to throw myself in and the answer is a definite "no". I'm afraid of making myself too much involved with any wikis because of this exactly and I doubt I will ever become a hardcore wiki editor here either. Anyway blabla about me. You take care and maybe I'll see you around later. o/ - nian 20:54, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

About skills...
Maybe you can answer this little question that just popped up: why do we have both Category:Skills without known Factions trainers and Category:Need Factions Skill Trainer ? I might've been categorizing skills the wrong way. Erszebet 16:13, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- There never was a discussion on what to use, so I guess some people ended up thinking the same thing and not talking to each other. I'd personally prefer if all skills were in the first category, it's a better category name. :) - anja 16:17, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- They all are, so I put the second up for deletion, even if it happens to be older. Backsword 16:25, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Cat
Adding a Charr cat might not be the best of ideas, due to the confusion with Charr as type and affiliation, and possible future autocat. Backsword 20:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Why did you never answer my question then over at your talk page? I think those I added it to are definitely belonging to the charr species, so it should fit, since that's how the categories work atm. I disagree with holding off with helpful categories because of a autocategorization that doesn't seem to happen anywhere in the near future. - anja 20:47, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- It is always better to have something now than something later. If autogategorisation means we have to alter some articles then big deal. This is a wiki. LordBiro 20:53, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not sure it would cause conflict, and we can probalby use bots to fix it, so it's not a big issue. Backsword 21:02, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

hihi
So, I was looking at some of the recent changes interface and I was wondering what are "Patrolled Edits"? Thanks. Lyra Valo 17:48, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- This is a feature for sysops (Can be given to other users but it needs some special configuration of the software). Sysops can click on a link to mark an edit as "patrolled", which basically would mean "I checked this, it's not vandalism". Any edit by a sysop is automatically marked as patrolled. And there's some different features to use with this, like to filter out all patrolled from RC so vandal watching gets easier etc. :) We don't really use this feature much, since we are too few sysops to check everything. Plus, we really have some great vandal watcher users - anja 17:53, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Archives
Hey, is there a max recommended size for archives before a new one is created? Fall 20:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Not really. I generally create one new archive page each time I archive, to make it easier for myself. Archives don't get edited that often, so it's not a huge porblem if they are bigger than 32kB. - anja 20:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Category Quests with no data
Hey I was wondering if most of these were renamed/removed/beta quests or something, and are they all confirmed as actually being in the game at one point?, as I can't find any data on many of them, but I did notice the that the name of the quest Army Wife might have been renamed to Deliver a Message to My Wife, and a couple other quest similarities. Fall 15:26, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- All quests added as a "quest placeholder" is quest pages created since they still have an in game link (see Guild Wars Wiki:Game integration.) Technically they should be possible to reach from the help menu in game, but they are hidden. So, probably all of these were removed/rethought and maybe also renamed, but their reference is still in the game, so they are not fully removed. - anja 15:32, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

- User:Fall/Maps may need to add this to the project page, side note sry for so many topics on your talk page and thanks for the help :) :P Fall 20:25, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
DPL
Please don't break it. While we could make it work with your formating, it currently doesn't and it would require some needless work to make it. Backsword 13:32, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm actually trying to repair List of core common skills. Lots of things listed there which really shouldn't be. - anja 13:33, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Note sure what's even supposed to be listed there. Technically, more than half of all skills in the game is core and common (my estimate). But such a list wouldn't have much use, so I assume that was not the inital creators intention. In any case, we only have DPL for the skill infobox, so until we are done with deciding and implementing a new system, better leave them there. I could make List of core common skills work as intended if I only knew what that intention was. Backsword 13:40, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Core common skills is meant to list skills usable by players, if I got it right. Should we try to solve this effect vs. skill mess now? I really hate attribute being listed on conditions that's not related to attribute at all, so we should fix that. - anja 13:42, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

- OK, you mean the articles themself. Yes, I mentioned that earlier; the infobox should really hide both the attribute line and the proffesion line for non learnable skills. Problem is that some of them do have attribute and or profession, so we can't just hide it in general. Backsword 13:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

- "Usable" is tricky, since the game makes no such distinction. The engine is capable of placing any skill on the players skillbar, should it want. 'Currently usable' is slightly better, but since it's not based on any game mechanic, only a sum of various methodes of gaining the skill. 'Learnable' would be my prefered choice, as that's an actually a game mechanic, but it would still take some work to implement automatics. For now, could you just list the skills you want on the list? Backsword 13:52, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

- Backsword, I simply think it's better to decide a way to categorize stuff here the way it works best for us. The normal GW player has no idea that the game integration calls conditions skills, and I don't think the average wiki user knows that either. I've posted on the skill formatting page, feel free to point it to a better suited location if you want. But my talk page is really the wrong place. - anja 14:00, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- DPL is the reason for all this? You know that we even could make a DPL list based on two infoboxes? But I don't think any player would want to see conditions or diseases or whatever when going to the List of common skills.. And yes, infoboxes can be overloaded. When you have 15+ parameters, and you only need 5 for the most interesting (player) skills, then I think a infobox is overloaded. And please note that a visitor does not see that there is an Effect infobox displaying the info instead of a Skill infobox. poke | talk 14:07, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Check the header. And I already said most of that myself. (They're not listed there, BTW). But as Anja requested to not have this discussion on her talk page, could you point to some other place you'd prefer? Backsword 14:10, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

My signature graphic
Hi Anja. Somebody (well, Marco as it happens) edited the page for my signature graphic (Image:User_Snograt_signature.png) so that it re-directed to my userpage, as is commonly done. However, when that is done, it loses the {{user image}} tag. I seem to recall that this is a known issue - what's the right way of doing things? (Or maybe it's still user-image tagged but not visible?) Thanks, --Snograt 20:04, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- It was removed, as you can see in the diff. But you are correct, they are not visible while still there when there's a redirect placed. The easiest way to tell is to look for the user images category. :) Just readd the {{user image}} under the redirect code and all is well. - anja 20:08, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
"Interesting" new site
Hiya Anja! I just wanted to get your attention and point you in this direction. Check it out when you get a chance, and let me know if you have any questions! -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:37, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Male monk elbow
Emily Diehl said you might be able to tell me which male monk armor sets don't expose the elbow with Dwarven armor gloves. I know you're on holiday break, so there is no hurry. - From your two comments on this page, you've demonstrated successfully using every letter of the alphabet except for Q and V. Your use of question marks as well as tildes to sign and colons to indent also suggest that your shift key functions properly. I'm sure we can forgive a few words missing Qs or Vs if those letters are genuinely malfunctioning, but the rest is clearly laziness or silliness. - Tanetris 07:47, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

main page description
shouldn't be also noted that there are several Arenanet members that work on the wiki? That makes besides being official another diffrence to Guildwiki. —ZerphaThe Improver 17:05, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe, but I think the point was to make sure people understand it's still player run, not run by Arenanet. - anja 23:42, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
