Website
Iirc, you were in charge of the official website.. I just have a small note to give. The link "All Guild Wars news" on http://players.guildwars.com still links to October 2007, instead of January 2008 ;) - anja 10:14, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Just another tiny thing. If there's a better place to report these things, just point me there :) The top left nav on http://players.guildwars.com has two links back to itself but no link to http://www.guildwars.com. - anja 15:48, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Eu Sweepstake
Hi Emily, first of all sry if I'm addressing this to the wrong person. Second I have encountered a little problem while filling the EU sweepstake form. On the last question, the one that asks 'Which products would you like to see more of in the merchandising store?' I chose Statues/Figures. However when I clicked on the submit button, the form didn't accept it, reset the answer of that question, and told me to choose an answer. After trying for 7 times I gave up and chose Gadgets, where finally the form was submitted. I wanted to bring it to your attention. --Mage Montu 22:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, Mage. I'll pass it along to the EU team. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:22, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

- Hiya, I tried this last night (EU), and encountered a similar problem with the "What's your favourite product in the online store", I chose skill packs, but the form wouldn't go through despite 2 attempts, so in the end i chose BMP and it did. Data minings gonna be a bit skewed from this questionaire ;-) --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 12:02, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Uh Oh...
I think I may have found a bug in the main website ([1]). I searched for NPCs and I got this. Is it something with IE or is it the website? Either way I would say it may need to be fixed.... (btw I placed the red ring in there) --Shadowphoenix 22:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Website RSS
The game updates, and news rss feeds on the guildwars site, do not work in IE anymore. It says "feed format not supported". Dominator Matrix 22:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Wiki links on guildwars.com
Hey Emily, I just wanted to say that I love () the new links to the wiki from the official website :) Thanks for that ^^ poke | talk 20:38, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- You're welcome :) I put them in, thought about it a while, and almost took them out because I was worried they looked cheesy XD Then I asked AJ and Reagan what they thought, and they loved the links, so we just gave em a custom color and ran with it. By the way, I love the template...haha!! -- Emily Diehl (talk) 21:00, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

RSS problems
Emily, the RSS feeds for the guild wars site are going werid again. There doing 2 things a) don't deliver the updated content to IE7 feeds (appears as its not updated, though the feeds are). or b) don't send all of the rss feeds contents EG. The play news (its like its not there...). It could be rss feeds not liking IE7, not the right format, header syncing problems, or something else. Yet even oddly if I go to the website and click on the rss feeds the contents there. If it helps "Internet Explorer supports RSS 0.91, 1.0, and 2.0, and ATOM .3, 1.0. All web feed formats are based on XML". Or this could just be another Microsoft problem. So I need to see if its the site, or the application having problems. Thanks. Dominator Matrix 01:58, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the report, Dominator. I'll ask the person that works on the feeds to take a look at it first thing in the morning. I'll let you know what he finds. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 02:13, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Prediction Problems
Hey Emily, I have a small problem with the xunlai prediction. Every time I make my predictions and hit the save button, i get an empty screen. When i try to go back to the main xunlai page, it says that i haven't predicted yet. Hope that's a clear explanation ^^ --MageMontu 09:22, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm getting the same thing. I've tried it in Firefox and IE (XP and Vista) with the same results. Hopefully this gets fixed soon so we can make our predictions! (Must... open... Zaishen... Chest... o_O) Kokuou 10:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Feeds
First off, I'm not going to claim to be an expert on this subject, and neither do I know too much, but was it intended for RSS and Atom Feeds to pick up on the recent changes page from the wiki? — Wolf 23:24, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Were you expecting the AP or BBC? calor (talk) 23:25, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- AP? BBC? — Wolf 23:26, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, MediaWiki does allow for the Recent Changes to be pulled into RSS. If I remember correctly, it allows updates every few minutes. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 23:28, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- RSS is behind by 15 mins, and Atom by 5. Hmm, thats rather interesting. — Wolf 23:29, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'd have to double check on the exact time discrepancy, but yes, there is a delay on the feeds. When the feature first got discovered on the wiki (with no time limitations), requests increased so rapidly that it actually crashed the site (we're talking in the multiple thousands per second). After that time, we decreased the update frequency to make it more reasonable. I don't believe that it should be as high as 15 minutes, so I can check on that for you. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 23:34, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not subscribed to either feed, could it be something on my end? Oh, and Atom feed is pretty close to accurate, only delayed a min or two, so all is good there. As of a few seconds ago, RSS was behind 30+ mins. — Wolf 23:42, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Non working link
Hi Emily! I was just updating our List of fansites from GW fansites and I found a link that appears to be non functional Healbot Blues. I thought you might want to check it out and potentially remove it. -- Wyn 22:27, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Wyn! I remember reading somewhere that they actually changed their homepage URL. I'll see if I can find where they moved to and update the link on that page. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:46, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Alrighty...all fixed! Again, thanks a bunch for pointing this out. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Emily! One more nitpicky thing. The Community Fansite Program page lists the 4 levels of recognition as: Listed, Honored, Elite and Specialty.
- However, as you read through it, it describes: Listed, Official, Elite and Specialty.
- It seems a bit inconsistent. Is that something that should be fixed? -- Wyn 23:41, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Heya Wyn...the whole fansite page (along with the GotW, featured guild, etc pages) are all part of a group of items under evaluation for update in the next few weeks or so, so expect some updates to that stuff soon.
- Alrighty...all fixed! Again, thanks a bunch for pointing this out. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- On a related side note (so you guys have a little insight into the site workings), it's been really hard to track these inconsistencies, because there are a lot of legacy issues that pop up from before Regina and I worked on the site. We've been trying to dig into them as they get mentioned (or as we notice them), but it's a balance between tracking old issues that the site is riddled with and juggling work on GW2 items (and balancing web with the other stuff we both handle). We both have a list of things that drive us nuts on the site. We're going to try to fix what we can, but some of the issues are deep-rooted in the way the site's infrastructure was built from the beginning. For those items, we'll do what we can to make them better now, and take steps to avoid making the same mistakes for the GW2 site.
- So, I ramble :) Please keep sending me stuff like this that you notice, and I'll be as honest as I can about whether we can fix the problems. I'll try to either do it myself asap if it's small or give a rough timeframe on when we can get to it, although that can sometimes be tricky to gauge when things are busy. Just keep in mind that some things that look simple may not be because of various reasons. Luckily, though, the thing you mentioned is pretty straightforward, so we're good on that one...hehe. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 23:59, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think we could get one or two examples of things that drive you nuts on the site, could we? It would make a funny mental picture to learn about those little things that often no one else notices but that can bug people to no end : ) Erasculio 00:04, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Again Emily, I think I speak for a large number of us here when I say thank you for all you do. I can only image how crazy life is for you. I dig through the website occasionally looking for stuff we need to add here, and figure it doesn't hurt to point these things out to you when I find them. Whether they get taken care of/when they get taken care of is, as always, when you have time, but I figure you can at least be aware and add it to your list. -- Wyn 00:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, my obsessive-compulsive got the best of me, so knowing that was messed up drove me nuts. Since making schedules is boring, I fixed the page :) Well, I didn't touch the wording of anything (that's Regina's territory), but now the names are consistent. And don't worry about thanking me...I'm the one that needs to be thanking you for pointing this stuff out. There are so many things like this all over that make the site look icky, but it's impossible to catch them unless you're looking for something and stumble into the problem or are told by someone. So...thanks again! -- Emily Diehl (talk) 00:23, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Erasculio, I'll seriously see if I can get a list of stuff. I wouldn't mind putting at least a few things that we're working on on my journal. The only reason I worry about doing that is because a lot of the improvements that get put on those lists get back-burnered when other projects or issues pop up. Most of the time they aren't urgent, but annoying enough to get under the skin if you know they're there. For instance, the notable guild section. It's interesting XML spaghetti on the back-end, and noone that I've talked to really remembers why it was created (especially in that way), and what information it should be updated with. Hence, it's on the plate to be looked at. With a site this old and this expansive, you just run into things on occasion and wonder "Whoa, what's that?" or "Whoa, where'd that come from?". It's normal, but it's always funny when it happens :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 00:31, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- I know that feeling! It's like reading through some code and then suddenly "Wow, there's a function here?", or in the case of (X)HTML; "Wow, does this actually work out this way?" :D — Galil 01:02, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Addition: On a different note; impressive! Your talk page has been read three times more than the admin noticeboard. :P — Galil 01:04, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Imo, it's funnier once you realize that you're looking at your own code. -- Armond Warblade{{Bacon}} 01:26, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Game Update Page - Tonics
Hey Emily, sorry to bother you again but I wanted to ask a question. Why on the update page (on the main site and here), in the "More information on Zaishen Rewards can be found here.", do you have it link to the Zaishen rewards page? I think since it is near the information on the tonics, it might be a good idea to have the link to the Zaishen Calander there so that people can see what the new tonic is =D. --Shadowphoenix 20:14, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- The linked page is the correct page for "more information on Zaishen rewards" - the calendar is linked on that page, too. poke | talk 12:32, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Heya Shadow! I think the update notes link to Zaishen rewards because it's an explanation of the rewards as a whole (and we wanted people to learn more about them when the reward was still new). Since they've been in effect for a few months now, I'll check with the team to see if it makes sense to just link off to the tonic calendar instead. Sorry if this answer isn't really coherent...it's Monday and I haven't gotten enough coffee into me just yet ;) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:06, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I'll redo the alpha cap sans shadow after I get back from my next two back-to-back meetings, so I'll overwrite the image with the new one in a bit. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:51, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Website/GWW not up to code.
Was doing a markup validation of the main site, and the wiki. The wiki suffered better, but still it didn't pass. The result for the wiki is here, and the site is here. Since you are website related I thought it would help :). Dominator Matrix 23:35, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Dominator! We're aware that all of the pages don't validate W3C, but there are many different factors that pertain to complete validation compliance. It would be extremely difficult for us to go through and fix code to meet standards that often times are simply suggestions on ways to help pages display properly across a very broad range of browsers. Compatibility issues, varying degrees of code standards, and this whole topic in general is something that is a hotly debated topic across the web. We do try to go through and fix obvious issues, and we make an effort to keep things as clean as possible, but it's something that's extremely difficult to do on sites as large and old as our main site and near impossible to do on a site like a wiki (that holds proprietary code styles from countless sources) :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 04:01, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Notable guilds
Hi Emily! I know you are so crazy busy with everything, so I hate to even bring this up, but it appears that the Notable guilds page on gw.com has fallen terribly out of date. Since this is the page we use to determine whether a guild gets the Notable guild distinction, it makes it problematic. I am just wondering if that particular page of the website has been 'shelved' and we should look at expanding the requirements to include other sources, or if it's just a time/priority thing? If the latter, what are your criteria for a guild being placed on that page? Would give us at least a place to start. -- Wyn 14:10, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- I believe there would be volunteers willing to prep articles for qualified guilds and submit them so that they could just be copied into the page, if the time it takes to do that is the issue. -Binary 19:27, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
- Honestly, I'm not sure how that page was initially run. I don't see why we couldn't include other sources of information, but that's going to be more Regina's territory than mine. I'll mention it to her and see what she thinks :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 17:37, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- Heya guys! I just sat down with Regina to chat about this topic and another related one. Website Idea
I wonder why the website(s) don't have this. I think it would be cool to have weekly/monthly polls on the Guild Wars website(s). Not necessarily to collect feedback, but mostly do see the reaction of the community viewing the site. It would be another way to interact with the site. I'm wondering if you think this could be implemented/needed/wanted. Thanks :). Dominator Matrix 00:29, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hiya Dominator! This is something we've talked about in the past, and it's something that we're considering. I can't give more detail beyond that, but I wanted to give you a reply regardless. Thanks again! -- Emily Diehl (talk) 00:00, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Just an idea
Hey Emily, as you are the producer of visual services projects, I would like to address my question or suggestion to you. Have any of you guys been thinking of making a nice dreamscene background for windows vista ultimate users? I'm sure you guys could do a great job on that, maybe even for a promotion of GW2 when the time is right. I think a lot of users would love some kind of GW dreamscene background, for the moment we only have the wallpapers, but a dreamscene like mystic sword (halfway down this page) would be lovely! Just an idea though, don't know if it's realistic or not. grtz! -- (Tribina / talk) 23:37, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion, Tribina! I'll pass it along to the team and see if it's something we can eventually do. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 23:57, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

It will be back soon :) I'll be giving Martin and Regina the latest updates on everything, so keep an eye on their posts to see what's up. We're really sorry for the inconvenience! -- Emily Diehl (talk) 03:23, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- The message I got when trying to submit was:
- Hehe I saw it, clicked it, filled it in, submitted my application and got an error. Then the link to the test krewe page disappeared :(. -- Qaletaqa Hania 03:19, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

- Thought I should mention it here, I did not use any of those characters. Just putting it here maybe it is of some help. -- Qaletaqa Hania 03:30, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

- Site has been taken down for mean while again for many fixes. Shame, guru has alot of activity on this.--Smithy-Star 04:07, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'd like an opportunity to apply for the test crew and have no idea whatsoever of how to get to it. Could anyone give me a link of where the page will be once it's actually completed? --Jette 05:10, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- I mananged to fill mine out without any errors, since its now been taken down will we have to re-apply? --Kei Miyaichi 05:26, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- To echo Jette, where do we find this application? King Neoterikos 05:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

- How long will the application period be open or was that detail listed on the application link before it was taken off? Racthoh 06:53, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Just wait. poke | talk 07:12, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- The links were apparently posted on Twitter and on guildwars.com. So, just wait. :) - anja 10:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Twitter is a stupid website, built upon the assumption that anyone cares what other idiots are doing or thinking at any point in time. That it has reached the level of mainstream popularity it has is a sad reflection on how oblivious and self-absorbed this country (and, indeed, human society in general) is.
- Corporate announcements are the only worthwhile use of it. --Jette 10:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- That's a rather small minded opinion. Twitter is what you make of it, not what it seems you've been told it is. - Bex 11:10, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe I'm just irritated because all the posts I see on personal pages are about using the bathroom. --Jette 11:19, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

- Someone mind sharing the link? I can't find anything on guildwars.com, and sharing this kind of thing via twitter only is a little unprofessional... Ashes Of Doom This user grants Arenanet full permission to use any of his suggestions. 20:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

- Would someone mind sharing it so I don't have to go and search for it when it comes back up. I understand that there's nothing there atm, it would just be easier when its back up. Ashes Of Doom This user grants Arenanet full permission to use any of his suggestions. 20:52, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

- Here you go: http://www.guildwars.com/community/test_krewe. That used to be the link but they might change it. -- Qaletaqa Hania 21:11, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yay, found the cached version of the application on google. Doesn't allow you to actually submit your application, but it does allow you to see the questions and get working on your application in word. :) Gives me something to do other than refresh the page continually. -- Salome 13:23, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- salome, do you have a link to said chased version or a screen?-- Zesbeer 17:52, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Google the url and click "cached" for the first result. poke | talk 18:34, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Here it is good luck^^, I hope we can fill it in for atleast 3weeks since I can't fill it in the coming 2weeks. [2] Death Sligher 84.80.151.136 18:35, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

- thanks i thought some of the questions were interesting including the one about age.-- Zesbeer 00:48, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- It requires legal work, which requires a certain age to avoid messes. — Jon Lupen 00:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think he was referring to the GW-age.. but it is just right to expect people to bring some kind of experience with it. poke | talk 12:14, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed, although I know some people who are at 52 months and yet have only about 600 hours played and I also know someone who is at 12 months and has about 4000 hours, which puts my 8000-ish hours over 50 months to shame. :( -- Salome 12:42, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- No matter how you view the /age it will be skewed. There are people who AFK a lot, sit around in outposts trying to trade. There are AFK events. Not only that but we're grabbing the /age of a single character and not the account. It's not like players don't understand classes they don't play and can't provide input. Racthoh 13:03, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- You have a point. I have a friend who has been playing for over 4 years with me and he still has yet to have 1 character reach its 1st birthday. He just rerolls them all the time as hes a pvp type person. -- Salome 14:04, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- My oldest character is almost up the 4th birthday, and has 450-ish hours played. It's also the char I currently have that has most played time. I'm just an altaholic and if you would count all the chars I've had you'd easily reach above 30. — Galil 04:23, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

- Although that was a response as to why it wasn't going up on Friday (due to the weekend and the inability to monitor its functionality over that period), it doesn't really answer when it's going to be up this week. I'm hoping sooner rather than later. :)-- Salome 00:39, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- And it doesn't answer whether people who already submitted applications will have to redo them. Felix Omni 00:56, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Guild Wars website link is broken
The link about "More Info About Guild Wars 2!" at Guild Wars website redirects me to a blank 404 page. Here's the link: [3] and maybe what you meant it to be [4]. :) --Johnny Rodrigues 00:23, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Johnny! This has been fixed. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:17, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
