Weather (off topic :P)
- Wow, sounds like both the Bellevues got buggered over at the same time! We go hit by icy and snow, 4 inches of snow on top of an inch of ice! I'm working from home too. I have my suspitions that Bellevue Washington is just a clone of Bellevue Nebraska in a different spot. I had a funny conversation about that with several members of the Dev team at PAX XD — Jon 18:01, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Eep, sure sounds like it! We're also worried about the wind storms they are predicting. Last year we had one so bad that it knocked power out in the area for a good week or so (actually, it may have been more). We had people sleeping in the office, camped out at each others houses, and generally miserable for quite some time. 70 - 80 mph winds are no joke. Here's hoping the weather doesn't get that crazy this year =/ -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:06, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can relate to that! I had to dig two cars out of the ice last night, and again this morning, plus another. A couple years ago, we had something like this, but worse. Two feet of snow in around 5 hours, with layers of ice inbetween. The whether does NOT play around in Nebraska, no sir! We went from 55 to 0 degrees over night just a few days ago, and it killed my battery! — Jon 19:21, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I'm sorry to hear about your battery :( No fun! That weather sounds a lot like the east coast. I'm originally from Pennsylvania, so I'm actually used to a LOT of snow and crazy temperature changes. The big difference is the level of preparation. Back east, states prepare for snow like crazy. They budget for plows and cinders/salt, and respond to inclement weather immediately. Because of that, there can be a ton of snow but stuff is still up and running. Out here, it snows so infrequently (well, except for up in the passes I guess) that things completely crumble when we get any snow...even a few inches.
I can't say I miss digging my car out of snow to get to work though. I remember mornings when I'd have to shovel myself to my car, shovel my driveway out to the road, swipe feet of ice and snow off the car, and then drive through a mess to get to the office. Yuck, no thanks. That's why I moved out here :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:29, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Would make a perfect xmas to me. After which all snow should be *poeff* away. --Silverleaf Don't assume, Know! 19:32, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I can handle snow when it's here for a little bit and then gone right away. I don't miss it sticking around for months, piling up and getting all dirty and gross though. =X -- Emily Diehl (talk) 19:36, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Although, our snow has a habit of not sticking around for too long, but it leaves a few days of icy streets on it's way out. Above freezing temps during the day, and below over night :P I actualy broke a scrapper digging through ice, this stuff is thick! Considering how much snow we usualy get, the county has NOT been on the ball lately with keeping things cleared. — Jon 19:44, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Something that has bothered me ever since I saw the high-resolution "Retreat!" icon. I always thought it was a bad icon, seeing it close up confirmed this. I think you guys are paying one of your artists too muchJust some artwork I noticed that is somewhat below the high standard set by the rest of the skill icons in the game:
I used to think maybe most of the icons looked like that in hi-res, but I just went through the gallery and it's only really those 5, the rest are mostly reasonably high quality work, or at least blurred so you can't see that it is just a photo that the artist has scribbled armor over the top. "Retreat!" is by far the most noticeable and worst. I don't know exactly what my point is, but just thought I would highlight it to a member of the Anet staff and the wiki community in general. It's possible that due to deadlines these icons were never completed. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 09:20, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- you also have to realize they had to make icons for about 1000+ skills.75.165.113.53 10:50, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I do realise that. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Misery (talk). 12:16, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I don't really mind them using photos etc... however if they are going to scribble bits of armour on them they should at least do it properly. Have to agree with misery on this one, whoever did those 5 icons needs a slap on the wrist as they are terrible! EDIT: although i have to admit their are a fair few that are in the same terrible vein for example: discord, oppressive gaze, spoil victor, vampiric swarm, rejuvenation and (the worst one of all) Pain, in which the guy is clearly just wearing a hoody top. tut tut... -- Salome 16:17, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you guys expect from me with this comment. I understand that you have an opinion about the art, but frankly, the feedback above quite rude. Skill icons are made in massive batches in very small amounts of time by many of the same, well-known artists that have produced countless pieces of incredible art for the game. They are rapidly churning out icons based on skills that have just been named, renamed, or created, and are often on tight deadlines. The process is quite complicated. You have to keep in mind that these icons are meant to be viewed in scaled down resolutions, so something that looks one way at a large size will look completely different when viewed in the resolution it's meant to be viewed in.
- As a final reminder, I'm all for people posting questions on my page, but please try to keep it out of the realms of personal attacks. Opening a topic with the comment that a team member's salary is out of order because of an artistic opinion isn't the best way to get a constructive point across. Be nice! :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 20:06, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I Apologise, it wasn't my attention to be abrasive on purpose or to personally attack the artist. Merely to bring it to the attention of people, but I tend to be abrasive by nature accidentally. Misery 20:09, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- No worries :) I just wanted to clarify what kind of items I'm able to pass along from my talk page, and to remind folks that being constructive will get a better response in the long run. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 20:29, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- I wasn't so much commenting for you to send that feedback to someone else, I was more just commenting as one GW player and wiki user to another, who has an interest in the art work of the game. I will admit that I LOVE GW art and its of a consistently high standard, however its just those icons mentioned aren't in the same vein as most of the others. It's also not so much a question of artistic preference, more just a comment that they lack the same polish of the others. I understand time constraints and the like can force the production of some rushed icons, however it doesn't really change the fact that some icons are just sexier than others. Please note that this isn't supposed to be insulting or rude, just a general comment about the range of art and its styles found in guildwars. For example I'm still massively upset that we will never get to see the clockwork city from utopia in action as that concept art was unbelievably fab. I also currently have the loading screen for the Asuran areas as my wallpaper on my home computer, the loading screen from the vanguard areas on my desktop computer and the loading screen from Ascalon before the searing on my work computer. Needless to say I'm a GW art addict. -- Salome 18:14, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks!
Emily, thanks! you answered my question about the male dervish armor and i didn't get a chance to say thanks! that's cool that you like the watchmen, what other graphic novels do you enjoy? and are you a fan of amine and if so witch ones? and are you excited for the watchmen movie? 75.165.113.53 10:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Heya! Well, I read a ton of graphic novels and comic books. I tend to like the grittier books, like Frank Miller and Brian Michael Bendis stuff. I also read most horror stuff that comes out...good or not. I've been following Walking Dead from the start, and have read a lot of the 30 Days series. I tend to prefer Marvel over DC, with a preference for Phoenix storylines (although I've honestly read stuff from so many series that I can't really count, hehe). I do like anime, although I haven't watched a lot of recent stuff.
- I'd say my favorites are series like Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Last Exile, and Twelve Kingdoms. I like gritty stuff/sci fi stuff/horror stuff/fantasy stuff, so I tend to prefer toned-down cuteness and lots of story and backstory.
- I'm definitely hopeful for the Watchmen movie, although I'm not sure how certain parts of the story will translate to film. I'm hoping that it turns out, though :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 20:24, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- jawesome! i too like the grittier books i love Cowboy bebop as well and i am hopeing that that movie isnt butcher but i have little hope with spike being played by Keanu Reeves. did you see/like trigun? and are there any references to eather cowboy beobp or watchmen that i just didnt notice in gw? if so EPIC if no oh well i wish there were.... im not too huge into graphic novels but i have read v for vendetta and sin city, both of which i loved. i will be sure to check out the ones you mention. also are you a fan of any of the gundam shows? 75.165.113.53 01:29, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there! I don't know of any Bebop or Watchmen references that are in the game, unfortunately. As far as Trigun goes, I've seen a good portion of the series from when it was on Adult Swim, but I haven't watched it in a while. The same goes for Gundam. As much as I love mechs, I haven't really seen a whole lot of any of the series (there are so many different ones...it's hard to keep track of) :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 03:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

How do you pronounce your last name?
After all the work you must have on your desk... Just wondering :) (Terra Xin 12:18, 27 March 2009 (UTC))

I like your new look userpage, very nice :) --Lemming 20:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- I love the look, but I has a bug with it... The first box, the one with the necro, has the text cut off. It depends on my browser width: at narrower window (75% of the screen), all text disappears and I can only see the picture, at more width I can see part of the text and the rest disappears at the bottom, and I can see all of it only in full screen. I use IE on XP. Rose Of Kali 22:20, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Pretty sure the boxes Emily uses don't mix well with IE. Firefox understands our pages much better. :) --Lemming 22:25, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- It looks fine to me. Vili 点 22:29, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict x2) Nope, in lower resolutions (or if you drag the edges of your browser window together) the text near the (awesome!) picture of your necro falls out of it's box, into the one below it, completely messing things up. This happens in Firefox, Chrome and IE, afaik. Page looks great though, I made a minor fix to a red link at the bottom, hope you don't mind. — Why 22:31, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- If I resize to 800x600 (in FF3) the necro pic stays in its box but shoves all the text down into the next box. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 22:34, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I know, guys :) It's because I have the content in a fixed height div because of the image. The only way around that is to fix the width of the userpage itself, since percent width scaling will always cause issues with that. I'm debating whether I want to do that or do something else. I'll probably take a few days to play with the page and tweak it, so expect it to be broken at times ;) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Horror Movies + Zombies
What's your favorite Horror + Zombie Movies? They're my two favorite movie genres! For horror I think it's a tie between the original Halloween and the original Vincent Price version of House on Haunted Hill (Vincent Price FTW!). For zombie movies, it's a tough call because they are all pretty good for what they are (B-movie or otherwise) but I'll always have a soft spot for The Return of the Living Dead, not only does it have the Tarman zombie, but it has a pretty good ending too. DarkNecrid 05:22, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- O_O Crazy people... My favorite is the one that was never made. :P (And I used to find it quite annoying that 90% of new releases at movie rental stores were just that... Netflix wins.) Rose Of Kali 18:36, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Man, I think it would be impossible for me to say what my favorite horror movie is because I watch so many and love so many for different reasons. If I had to pick some top zombie films, I'd say the classic Night of the Living Dead tops the list. It's what made me fall in love with zombies when I was a little kid (plus, Romero is from the Pittsburgh area, which is where I used to live). For a more modern one, I'd say 28 Days Later tops the list. I also really enjoy the over-the-top Italian zombie films. Lucio Fulci is the man...I actually just re-watched The Beyond (English title) for the billionth time the other night. As far as other movies go, you name it. Classic horror, Japanese/Korean horror, Italian horror. I have about 20 horror movies on my desk right now, actually, left over from when I'd watch them on my laptop while working on the update at night. I've also got horror posters, horror action figures, and bat stuff all over my desk. I'm known around here for being pretty extreme with it :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:44, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello
Birds are cool, and you have ELEVEN of them. I've only ever had a budgie (with it's own crazy personality). What other kinds do you have? King Neoterikos 00:43, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- I actually realized after the fact that I have 13 (when I made my page, I had babies in the nest). I've got one green cheeked conure, one lovebird, one ringneck dove, one diamond dove, and nine society finches at the moment. They're all awesome :) -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:07, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Nine Inch Nails
I'm jealous! I saw them at Lowlands 2007, a festival here in Holland, they were great. Have fun! — Why 14:23, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I try to catch them everytime they come around. I've been a huge fan for a long time, and Trent puts on amazing shows. This last one was (as always) incredible too. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 18:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Wish I had known
You wanted a Fendi's Staff, I just sold one :P -- Wyn 01:46, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Haha :) Well, I'm usually pretty stubborn about wanting to try to get items on my own. It's the fun of the hunt, so when you finally find one or save up enough to buy one it feels really awesome. -- Emily Diehl (talk) 01:59, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- I just went through all 26 mules and found a fendi staff, give me a shout when you are on and its yours. :) -- Salome 02:08, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I'm actually hunting for the Bone Dragon one :) So that's going to be a bit trickier to find I think...haha. More fun that way though! -- Emily Diehl (talk) 02:10, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

G19
I think it'd be really big of ANET to produce an optional patch or something rather for use of the screen on the new G19 logitech keyboard --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:68.197.60.142 (talk).
- Pls sign your comments, I also don't think this question/suggestion is something Emily can give an answer to, and I doubt Anet will "produce a patch" for it as they have not even done that for the G15. Read this. Qaletaqa 20:57, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- Heya anonymous! Yeah, unfortunately this is way out the realm of anything I can help with. Sorry :( -- Emily Diehl (talk) 21:24, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
You rock!
Hi Emily, I just wanted to thank you more directly for your comments here. I chimed in with Misery above because I thought it would be worth a shot, but really didn't expect you or any other dev to comment on those discussions at all, since I know you guys prefer to let us organize the wiki our own way. I was hoping that we might at best get a couple of one-liners here and there or maybe even a paragraph on a particularly scaly issue, but you have gone above and beyond on this one and we all really appreciate it. I think your comments will prove pretty invaluable, and hopefully should motivate more people to engage in the discussion more directly. Thank you again. (Satanael 04:10, 11 June 2009 (UTC))

- Oh yikes...I hate that pic! I forgot it's up here! Thanks for the compliments, though (misguided as they are) XD -- Emily Diehl (talk) 22:13, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Misguided :P ?? Feel free to replace with one you do like. Just saying you have a fan out there is all and was surprised to see you are quite an attractive gal to boot ;). If you're ever looking for some help in-game I'd be flattered and I'm sure we could work out a way to meet up...just putting that out there haha. P.S. your namesake boss was hell on wheels to farm for its drop on my necro main. Soulrend is pure caster hate. 76.20.238.253 13:57, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
