False Positive[edit]

Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition Ver. 11.1 reports that this program is an ad bot, hell bent on supplying me ED Ads (Erectile Dysfunction)

I have checked the code, it's clean. Anyone else running this version, be sure to exclude KSMod.exe from your Auto-Detection suite.

Bug Report[edit]

Since the recent update (12/20/07), I get an "Unable to Update" window regarding the High-Def aspect of the mod when I start Guild Wars.Geomancer Eden 02:37, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Confirm on the unable to update window appearing. Is it going to be like this everytime there is a new update, or just when there are a lot of skins and textures being changed for events like Wintersday? Alex Morningstar 05:30, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

It will auto-update most of the time, but not all. Version 2.2 is now out Kuntz 23:48, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Merge[edit]

This belongs a part of the page suggested for the merge. Pages about mods in the main namespace are not permitted at present to my knowledge except as part of the existing page. --Lemming64 20:52, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

No Merge[edit]

Can't KSmod be it's own page? The is nothing else like it, it can't be combined with TexMod because they do two entirely different things. Plus it will confuse people as to what KSMod is or does. The existing page is for temp modding textures only, not about modding in general. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.76.169.5 .

So does this mod modify the gw.dat file? If it does it is definetly a breach of the EULA in which case it most certainly should not be on the official wiki. Even if it doesn't this basically falls under the fansite policy which as yet is not finalised the current stance is not to allow pages about fansites to have pages here as yet. --Lemming64 20:57, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

No, without getting too technical, it temporary patches memory using a special technique. ArenaNET knows about it, has always known about it, and I've recieved good compliments from their staff from time to time about it. There is 0 chance of getting banned for using it. I have enough Devs on my MSN that if the day ever comes where they do not want KSMod to exist, I'll hear about it, believe me, and then I'll take the page down. But that day will never come. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:24.76.169.5 .

Deletion[edit]

Ok after having looking at your webpage you make it pretty clear in these lines:

  • ArenaNET does not support this program. Do not ask them for help with it.
  • ArenaNET does not recommend you use this program. Programs like these, more often then not, steal accounts.
  • ArenaNET has and will continue to warn you this program could steal your account.

So why should we condone having pages like this on the official arenanet owned wiki? if you see what I mean? --Lemming64 21:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

->Because they say the exact same thing about TexMod, and you have infomation on that. Any company will always tell you to side with caution when downloading and using 3rd party mods, because is history shows anything, most of them steal accounts, or worse. ArenaNET at no time will be ever able to say it's "OK" to use these programs, unless they take them over and can 100% ensure the player bases' safty. ~Kuntz

Ok so if you accept that are you missing the fact that this is the official arenanet wiki and to post an article about said 3rd party program here is about as close to making it look like they endorse it as you can get. This wiki lies in the subdomain of the main guild wars website, when you search in game or on the website it leads you here. Regarding TexMod that is slightly different, many users have gone out of there way to a. label those pages very clearly about the fact that it is unssuported by anet. b. get quotes from key members of the anet staff like Gaile Gray and Emily Diehl specifically stating that with that specific program whilst they can't offer support they won't offer objection and that is quoted on that page.
All in all this is why this discussion here is useful and hopefully other people will weigh in on this before long also. Just because the page is tagged for deletion doesn't mean it ultimately will. However currently I don't believe there is sufficient justification for it to remain as it stands. --Lemming64 21:17, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
This belongs either in the page listed in the merge tag, or in user space, as it is not an open-ended guide, but rather a single user-made mod. It sets an extremely bad precedent (that of allowing user project pages outside of user space) as is. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 21:22, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi Emily, I'm not sure how to place this in User Space, or what that is. Can you or Lemming do it for me please? And Lemming, my webpage has the largest and most comprehensive *Warning* anyone can possibly create. It's at the very top of the page, you can't miss it. So I've actually done more to Warn people about it then the TexMod people. ~Kuntz
I did see your warning, but I would say you need a warning here too. As for userspace all users get space when they create an account, it can then be moved using the move tool to any page as a subdomain of your own username. So for example if you created an account called Kuntz you could move it to the page User:Kuntz/KSMod. Finally Aiiane is not Emily :) --Lemming64 21:29, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Move[edit]

Since you seemed to approve of moving the page in your attempt to move the talk page, I went ahead and moved both pages to their proper locations (talk pages would go in the "User talk:" namespace, with the original page in the "User:" namespace. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a note on my talk page. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 21:37, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, the talk page move was an accident. Looks good now. Kuntz 21:39, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Addtionally, I've removed the merge and delete tags as they no longer have a reason to be there. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 21:40, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
excellent stuff, I would advice using a warning box similar to the one on the TexMod page. I wish you all the best in pursuing this in the same way that the TexMod guys have done with that page. --Lemming64 21:42, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
How do people search/find my page now, or will they need a direct link to it? Kuntz 21:43, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
People can search for your page if they select to search the user space. Also you can link to it from your main user page at User:Kuntz which people can get to by clicking your name in signatures on talk page, or by viewing recent changes or a page history and seeing a modification you have made and clicking on your name that way. --Lemming64 21:44, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Deleted mod[edit]

Someone removed your mod from the list, dunno if that was, if not put it back ~ KurdUser Kurd sig.png 12:58, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I removed it again as KSMod does not use TexMod to change something and it does not modifies "in-game graphics" (as the article is called) so I think it should be not in that list. poke | talk 13:39, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for replacing that, missed this discussion. How about creating Category:User modifications or something similar, so that KSmod (and others) can be found more easily? -- AT(talk | contribs) 13:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
It was listed in the correct place, please do not delete it again. The page is titled "Player Made Modifications", and is not just for TexMod packages. Kuntz 06:22, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
The page isn't just "Player made modifications." it is a subsection of "Guide to modifying in-game Graphics. While I do feel your mod should have a place here somewhere, I don't believe it should be there.--Pyron Sy 10:53, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Maybe?[edit]

I was thinking, would it be hard to add into this mod a sound the recognizes critical hits? :)

Kill Counter[edit]

In PvE, or farming, the kill counter becomes extremely annoying. In PvP, it's awesome. I love hearing 'Multi-Kill!' or so. Headshot makes me squeal when I'm playing a ranger. However, I would rather it just count player instead of NPC's. Is there an ability to kill this? I like the mod loading everyone in full detail rather than low detail. That's why I downloaded it in the first place.

Whereas I find it hard to go through PvE without it now. It gives me an idea of what is going on around me beyond the scope of the camera. And I don't PvP because it bores the crap outta me.... so no comment there. In any case... I'd quite happily cancel your vote out with my own on this matter. ~ SotiCoto 87.194.75.37 13:33, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
You and your blood magic sins. -Auron 13:33, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Detail mod FPS change?[edit]

I'm confident on my laptop's ability to run GW on max graphics. Now would the mod change that? I can only imagine it would suck during stuff like Wintersday... but otherwise, it's just like doing AB or something, 24 people in the zone. Or Hoh. Comments? Mango 01:19, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

It wont really change your FPS much, if at all, just how long it takes to load character data from your disk. Kuntz 23:48, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Correct order?[edit]

maybe, kuntz, you should update it to UT04 sounds, putting God-like behind Holy S***. also, if its possible, could you make it so that it actually counts your kills and gives you a killing spree at the appropriate time, etc.? -Auzzie

I'm happy with the way it functions now. I'll update the way it works for GW2, but it's current functionality works good for GW1. Kuntz 00:06, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion for GW2 Version[edit]

You mentioned that you might make this mod again for GW2. I think you should make 2 versions, one with sounds and one without. Personally, i love the "HD" aspect but the UT sounds i could probably do without. (Everyone with suggestions should put them here) -Auzzie

Actually you can take the sounds away by modifying the Settings.ini file line UT99_Sound_FX=1 to UT99_Sound_FX=0. That's what I did, since I only want the high def graphics, not the sounds. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:46, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Another suggestion can be to make a way that we can play our own sounds, for example, female UT voice or localized UT sounds, etc.--User RAd1cAl EdwArd Guildwiki-icon-small.pngRAd1cAl_EdwArd 11:58, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Update?[edit]

Since some months, the UT99 Sound Effects does not work anymore...
Is KSMod dead or will there be an update to fix it? --User RAd1cAl EdwArd Guildwiki-icon-small.pngRAd1cAl_EdwArd 19:41, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

It is updated again Kuntz 02:16, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks --User RAd1cAl EdwArd Guildwiki-icon-small.pngRAd1cAl_EdwArd 19:47, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

no sound effects[edit]

Is there some way to keep the graphics but get rid of the sound effects? dont get me wrong there freakin awesome but my bro doesnt like em so i have to get rid of em since he bought the game QQ

Check the site, it has a way to do it easily. Mango 19:34, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

aww man i still cant find it :(

Open the Settings.ini and change this UT99_Sound_FX=1 To UT99_Sound_FX=0 And it will disable sounds... T1Cybernetic

Suggestion[edit]

Including weapon and other equipment textures. As it is now i noticed that weapons and other equipment that NPCs carry in towns and outposts are not high-resolution. It kind of ruined part of the feeling of high-res beauty =/ A-Gen 15:10, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Luxons fighting Luxon Outcasts[edit]

I you leave Leviathan Pits to Gyala Hatchery and watch the Luxons fight the Outcasts, there will be sounds in NM, but not in HM. Why? --numma_cway 15:50, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

No Sound?[edit]

i downloaded the files and put them in my GW folder and got the sounds to come up one or twice and now they dont say anything even when i do a raptor farm run, not even a tiny headshot any1 know why? --Moosymoose 11:15, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

In Settings.ini, did you check that UT99_Sound_FX=1 ? Also, if you're too far away from killed mob, sound will not play...--User RAd1cAl EdwArd Guildwiki-icon-small.pngRAd1cAl_EdwArd 18:42, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
yea its right but it only plays when i kill a selected few monsters like the angry snowman in the secret snowman lair, it didnt play the sounds for any kills then it does headshot when i kill the angry snowman and then no more sound effects --Moosymoose 11:15, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Needs update[edit]

The most recent update made the mod incompatible with GW. I'm looking forward to an updated version. Siril Frein 09:28, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

I can also confirm this, plz update! - 69.248.175.25 21:35, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

And another confirmation, that KSMod 2.4 is not working anymore on the latest Guild Wars build. 91.16.113.176 22:19, 11 January 2010 (GMT)

I was wondering what was wrong. I walked up close to another person and I thought "What happened!" and now I see I am not alone. Please update so I can enjoy the beauty of Guild Wars again. -- Natalie Black User NatalieBlack sig.jpg 03:30, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Another confirmation that KSmod v 2.4 doesn't work on the latest Guild Wars builds. Please Update, I wish to enjoy the beauty of GW again.

KSMod has been updated to 2.5 and works with the current version of GW. Check the site. Kuntz

Loader[edit]

Could you make a version without the exe because now I can't run KSMod and TexMod at the same time. ~~Brodly 10:47, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. When I load ksmod through Texmod it runs the game fine, and player armour textures are hi-res in town, but none of my other overlays (specifically the Cartography Made Easy map mods) show up. What gives? Nobu 19:00, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
I think the high-res armor works without the exe, like it did before, so as long as you're only running one instance, it should work just like before. The exe, as far as I know, is only needed for multiple instances. ~Farlo Talk 07:34, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

version 2.6 Contains Trojan[edit]

Avira Anti Vir Personal v.10 detects a trojan "TR/Hijacker.Gen". Is that just false alarm because of a directX hooker like in Texmod? User Samurai Smartie Sig.PNGSamurai_Smartie talk 22:02, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

In short..................... (Yes) Your house, cat and children are safe! T1Cybernetic User T1Cybernetic Glob of Ectoplasm.png 22:04, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Change Sounds?[edit]

The sounds are great and fun but is it possible change the sounds depending on the user's preference(without editing the program itself)? Treesbyty 04:21, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't load new textures[edit]

With version 3.2 if a particular texture hasn't already been loaded into the gw.dat, then while using the loader the game won't load those textures. Neato 19:03, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Is there any way to rectify this?

It seems to keep GW from writing at all. GW needs that for reconnect (which is disabled when using KSMod) and new item icons because inventory icons are stored in a different way until first used (GWDatBrowser displays them as FFNA instead of ATEX3). --numma_cway 00:15, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't use high res NPC textures[edit]

It seems like with the mod it doesn't load high res NPC textures. I mean like the ones outside town... Jora for instance. Neato 19:44, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
