Wisdom / Treasure Hunter Titles
Linsey, I cannot tell you how much love and appreciation that I have for you and the live team. I have quit playing Guild Wars because I was constantly playing only one character which limited my play. Now that they are account based I can now totally immerse myself in the other profession and play whatever it is people need me to play without being a major peenwad about it. Thank you so much for giving us back our ability to play other profession without much consequence. 203.160.168.116 19:03, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi
First thing: Man, this page is long - WARNING: This page is 395 kilobytes long but I refuse to stop posting ^_^ Second thing: Anyone seen Linsey, or if Linsey is reading this, "Linsey, have you seen Linsey lately?". Maybe its because I've been playing in a new backyard and am going to be heavily distract soon as well (G.E.C.K FTW) but I haven't notice you around the playground. Third thing: Anyone know what the next update is going to be? This last one stopped short for me, but I am interested in knowing whats next. --000.00.00.00 22:43, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hope the next one is the HoM update, it was announced six months ago now. Sadie2k 23:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- Doubtful. I think the HoM update will come only in the second half of next year. The December update is IMO going to be a small one, just minor skill balances like the first update this month. Between the fallout from the last update, Thanksgiving, the holidays later on (which demand resources, as Arena Net has to implement the Wintersday build and prepare for the event) and etc, I doubt we'll get much. Erasculio 23:20, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with Erasculio, I doubt we'll see the HoM update any time soon, but I'd love to hear more details on how its exactly going to look. HoM is one of the only things keeping me on Guild Wars at the moment, so thats one of my "must have info" on subjects. Votes they develop a software system that makes repeating Festivals and events easier to impliment so they can focus on more important stuff. --000.00.00.00 23:36, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
- I would hope that Linsey is currently spending some time with her family for the Thanksgiving weekend and that we won't see much more of her, if anything at all, till Tuesday or so. As for why we haven't seen much of her this week, I'd imagine she's been working hard on whatever her current project is so the holiday weekend doesn't put her too far behind. Of course, this is all supposition based on the hope that Linsey can still occasionally take some time to enjoy herself with family and non-work friends. - Tanetris 03:55, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

No offense but I would like to present to you the other side of "fun" skills :

- I am not sure what you mean with that comment. People have always made wrong assumptions, even before Guild Wars. And people thought they were good even when they're not even before computers were invented. So I fail to see what this has to do with Palm Strike, really. - Just tell him you like a challenge by winning through skill instead of skills. That being said, I don't agree that your example says anything about the skill itself. People claim to be better than others for various reasons and most of them are as invalid as this one. But to change a skill because some other player says he's better than you...that's a rather odd reason to ask for a nerf, don't you agree? 145.94.74.23 22:21, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
This is why I don't PvP, which automatically makes me better than anyone else. :P But seriously, nothing says "I'm better than you!", more than defeating them in combat, in a fake world, with a fake character, with skills that don't really exist. PvP isn't, or at least, shouldn't be about who is better than whom, but rather, 'are you having fun?'. Because, after all, it's just a game, and anyone can beat anyone given the right circumstances. That's the whole point of making the game relatively balanced; so that any player, using the right skill set at the right time and place can tip the balance in their favor. In subsequent battles, that balance might be tipped the other way. Personally, I'd prefer it if players stopped claiming how they're better than anyone else, and just be happy with playing the game, win or lose. After all, even anyone with rank knows what it's like to be defeated, thus making them 'not better' at that time. :P--Cattivo 04:57, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

- It's true, that a PS assassin can do more damage than a Shock/Gale axe, because the axe needs 12(bull) or 30(exhaustion) seconds to recharge a spike, and the Palm Striker can do it every 8 seconds.Boro 07:41, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

your quests a lot...they are creative, i think it would be good to the game if u would give us an e-mail where ppl can send some ideas about new quests or to replace some boring ones coz most proph quests sux...they should have some own interesting story rather than kill X monsters of Y type, kill Z boss and collect V salvage items or idk..you could also add some unique reward to them like...a salvage kit, a bag, some dyes, some gold, a bit more xp(to the proph ones), some materials or maybe some little new items...:) i hope u like the idea -- Wuhy 17:25, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

WoW or Guild Wars?
I want your opinion on something. Have you ever played WoW? If WoW was free just like GW would you say GW or WoW was better? Im saying if you where a reguler player and had played both games, which would be better in your opinion? Thanks! 68.106.54.50 05:46, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- I wouldn't play a free WoW (can't stand it's art style and a few other things) but I would pay WoW's monthly fees for GW if it had regular new content updates and a large (40+) Live Team full of people as awesome as Linsey ;)--Yawg 11:30, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- I also wouldn't play a free WoW, but I would pay for Guild Wars if the game kept its current philosophy and had a large Live Team. Erasculio 11:37, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well... the game's current phylosophy is grind. Do you want it to be kept? Do you want titles to give unfair advantage for grinders? (conclusion: discrimination based on title) Boro 16:43, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- I also wouldn't play a free WoW, but I would pay for Guild Wars if the game kept its current philosophy and had a large Live Team. Erasculio 11:37, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
The games current phylosophy is what you make it to be. If you're done with all content and feel the need to keep playing and start grinding it's your own choice. It's not like someone will care about the fancy green weapon you get in GW2 for a full HoM. For me, this game is done because I never find people to play normal missions anymore and PvP is a joke with all the hero-teams.
- Well... "It's not like someone will care about the fancy green weapon you get in GW2 for a full HoM." Untill it gives you more damage/armor/health/energy than weapons you are normally able to get. If titles/grinds give you unfair advantage over casual players, and you will get discriminated from a group JUST because you didn't kill the same monster 297839 times, things go broken and (this is where boldicize and allcaps are intended) PLAYERS LEAVE THE GAME Boro 17:22, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- what if it just gives you a stronger weapon in the starting area (akin to GotY weapons)? Or new skins automatically customized? --JonTheMon 17:32, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
What I find interesting with WoW is that it is a game based on lore. Lore from its previous titles and just the simple history of the game. What excites me the most is that when GW2 comes out we are going to have the lore from GW1 to fuel this new game. People are going to be speaking of the titans, Shiro the fall of Abbadon, and the destroyers. Our gw1 characters were there to experience it and find that very exciting to be a part of GW history. 216.232.127.117
- If you ask me, WoW took the existing lore for the strategy game and bent it into a barely-recognisable shark-jumping pretzel in order to squeeze it into an MMO-shaped box. WoW's lore doesn't even agree with events in Frozen Throne, an expansion that was essentially explicitly designed to set up WoW in a similar way as EOTN is intended to work for GW2. Draxynnic 03:28, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, WoW's philosophy is to have grind. Guild Wars follows an idea to have as little grind as possible, as seen on the low level cap, on how maxed weapons are easy to get, on how most accomplishments on the game are purely aesthetic (weapon skins, expensive armor, most titles), and etc. In other hand, Guild Wars has had a strong power creep, with skills from Nightfall being more powerful than most of the things in Prophecies. That's to be expected - grind is required in a game with a monthly fee, in order to keep players around, and power creep is expected in a game which releases multiple expansions, in order to keep players buying new stuff. As long as Guild Wars doesn't follow the WoW philosophy of "as much grind as possible", I would be willing to pay a monthly fee if we had a large Live Team capable of adding new content to the game. Erasculio 17:40, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- While this was true at one point (Prophecies, the moment Factions came out, and especially when they added titles, grind became EVERYTHING in GW. It's only gotten worse and worse with each update to the game (though Linsey is slowly working at bringing the game back to what brought us to it and removing what drove us away.), sadly. --Emkyooess 23:09, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- The the OP: It depends on what you want. However, having played both (I played WoW more than once on the 10 day trial), I would gladly pay a subscription to play GW, and I still can't get myself to justify the subscription fee on WoW. I'd buy WoW if it had no subscription fee in a heartbeat though. WoW has great lore, a few more tools for players (e.g. for trading), works well as a social network / casual game. But it's grind is there, and frankly, I find the combat not as exciting as GW. I also hate having to run everywhere by foot in WoW, and transportation methods are too far to be of much use. And in WoW, I find that many things are just implemented to make me waste valuable gaming time. In contrast, GW does not make me waste my time. I can log in, map travel to where I want, and start accomplishing something now. In short, each have their strenghts and weaknesses, and I prefer GW's design choices & philosophy. -- Alaris 21:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Throws in my 2 cents. I enjoy both. WoW has stuff Guild Wars doesn't, and Guild Wars has elements that WoW doesn't have. I would play both if I could afford it and have the time - to be honest when I compare the two the most enjoyable stuff that comes to mind is WoW with it's mining and fishing, and cooking, stuff that GW doesn't have. I like games that are fun and challenging, but when I want to relax fishing and mining was fun and not really grinding because I would just get material, make stuff and give it away, can't really do it that way in Guild Wars, well, I can I have given over 1000K away in armor, weapons, minipets etc but most of that came from grind. Right now, to finish off elements of Guild Wars I have to grind myself senseless. Aba Malatu means Forbidden Truth 23:29, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I have played WoW. I am able to afford the subscription fee now and I think it is important to play as many different games as I can stomach. I tend to be the type to spend thousands of hours on a few games rather than a dozen or so hours on many games. When I first picked up the game I did my usual geek out and played it pretty hard core for a little while as I tend to do with games I get in to. I hit 70 and did a bunch of raiding, making it to Black Temple before getting bored/not having the time to raid any more. So I went back to Guild Wars until WotLK came out and I picked that up, did the initial grind up to 80 and got bored again.
- I'm not going to bother saying that I think one game is better than the other since it is so subjective (and saying Guild Wars will just make me look biased :P) and I do think that each game has it's own pluses and minuses. I do think that the games are so different that it really depends on the person.
- I have played a lot more of Guild Wars. And I do mean a LOT. Around 3-4 times as much and I gave WoW a fair shot. I have a lot more fantastic memories of playing Guild Wars and I do think that overall, I have had more fun playing Guild Wars than I did playing WoW. I had played more Guild Wars before applying for a job at ArenaNet than I have played WoW to date so it is not just because I work here. I have had much longer Guild Wars marathons than I have in WoW. Sure, I have spent an entire days playing WoW (12-16 hours at a time), but I've done GW marathons that have lasted entire weekends with no sleep. I've made better friends, been in better guilds and met more generous, helpful people in GW than I did in WoW. Does that mean that Guild Wars is a better game? I don't know, but maybe it was for me. - Linsey talk 01:45, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Love love love the tonic for this month. Hope i get one. Go Cerebral Tonic! 216.212.228.34 19:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Lulu
- Hate hate hate hate hate the tonic for this month. I hope i get one to sell to people like lulu. Seriously though, how many people liked / hated this one? Curious to know. My guild think its crap at least, so u got like 20 ppl against it already :) 201.6.50.214 21:29, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

- There's no accountin for ppl's tastes I guess. My fugly and crappy is "love it" for a bunch of other... ppl. Just do me a favor. Before the monthly tonics stop changing, make an essence of dragon tonic. I'll love you forever and ever. Thx. 201.6.50.214 22:35, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Odds are I won't have one drop for me anyway, not even a normal one, so I don't really care about what it looks like. My only wish for the zaishen chest rewards is to have at least the normal consumables either have a lower drop rate than higher end items, or when the consumables do drop for someone they drop in a higher quantity, such as 5 or 10 or more flasks of firewater rather than just 1. It would at least make you feel a little better about using a 5k key and getting a normal item drop. But that's just me.--24.92.116.83 02:24, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Isn't the piece of a Z-key determined by the players though? Why change the contents of the chest when players could just lower the price to buy/sell keys. I don't recall seeing anywhere that Arenanet set the price at 5K, that was the players. 118.92.180.68 03:21, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well you do have a point there, but by the natural rarity of the key itself and the means by which it is attained, this does help the players to price it at 5k. In other words, if ANET made the keys 'droprate' or 'attain rate' much higher than it currently is, then the players would likely reduce the price of the keys. Supply and demand of course. Still, would like the regular consumables to drop in higher quantities because even if the keys were only 500g each it would be a disappointment to get 1 flask of fire water or 1 creme brulee.--Cattivo 04:45, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Zkeys will be ~5k as long as they cost 5,000 balth faction; simple. Vili 08:21, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'd like a Mursaat or Mallyx tonic, while we're taking requests. And it'd be nice if we could use them in non-PvP explorable areas and missions and stuff. You can use the elf and candy ones outside of town, I don't know why it's unreasonable to use the others. To answer the original question, no, I do not like this month's tonic, as it is EotN-related. The campaign should be retconned, in my opinion. --Jette 11:39, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- @Vili: very insightful understanding of economics. No, really, price is set by supply and demand, and judging by my trading experience last night, I'd say the price is about 4.7k already. It was hard to sell at 5k, but easy at 4.9k. It was also relatively easy to buy at 4.5k. Of course, that could be because of the rapid influx at the time, but then again, anyone who wants to buy those keys would also be present. -- Alaris 14:46, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

- (resetting some indent)Hmm.. That's not completely correct. The first time Zkeys came out the price was around 2.5-3.6 (i forgot) - even though people knew very expensive items came out of it. The addition of other tonics then the rollerbeetle one didn't raise the price - but the title did. Before this raise it was even cheaper to unlock with Balthz poins and buy tomes when you needed a skill. The prices will drop over time - since there is no real estimate for the average rewards and people are (ab)using the xunlai rewards to make large profits in selling. Because more and more keys are being input and the much smaller group of buyers want to take the best price they can (because of the profit insecurity) - prices drop and more buyers will jump in. More people want to max their titles and prices will raise again, but never above 5k. Over a long period of time you'll see the prices head toward some kind of compromise. I'd say between 4.3k-4.8k. I'm not sure what the effect of Ecto's will be on this matter though. This discussion might better me moved to Zkeys talk or something similar though. -- Karasu (talk) 18:49, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Since there are requests in this section already, I would love to see three specific tonics: Tengu, Charr, and Mursaat. I'm sure those would all be loved. Since two of the four non-human playable races for GW2 have tonics, why not all four. But while Sylvari would be nice, it probably won't happen due to no model existing in the game. -- Konig Des Todes 20:17, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Why am I having deja-vu? Maybe because we discussed zkey prices before (may even have been on this talkpage) and the general conclusion was that you can't use economics on Guild Wars at all? Vili 09:00, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Actually you can.. I've seen many trends that are predictable. As long as ANet doesn't change anything everything is quite predictable. For example the dust prices during cantha new year, ecto prices and meta builds during holidays - even charcoal during Wintersday. Prices go up and down over time in any stable economy. If someone pulls too much in one direction - it breaks. Even though you can't know everything about the amount or ingame chances - everything is quite predictable by just looking at the amount of players and the rate certain resources are coming in. -- Karasu (talk) 12:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Diggin' the Small Text Comments
That is all. It is just so nice to hear honesty, even if it is not what people want to hear. Hopefully markesting blinders is not able to read the text size at which you write your sooth. Keep up the great work here and in game (and hopefully ArenaNet decides eventually to add in some dev time for wiki works). --Ravious 16:56, 12 January 2009 (UTC) Yes, I am awesome. :pppppp
I actually don't want to have time added for wiki works. For me personally at least. I think my time is better spent developing new content or features for the game than working on the wiki. I love you guys and I do feel super guilty for neglecting things over here but the work that is really my job is way more fun, way more exciting and in the end it will be much more appreciated pound for pound by the overall player population than the work I do here. Do you know what I mean? Obviously I think the work I do on the wiki is really important otherwise I wouldn't be spending my evenings and weekends doing it. I just think that the more time I can spend on building content, the more everyone benefits. - Linsey talk 06:23, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Cantha New Year

Reflection: Guild Wars 2008
So 2008 is done and over. Do you think 2008 was a good year for Guild Wars? The first year that we didn't receive an expansion, a couple major updates, but not really any new content, other then Mox. Dero Ahmonati
- I would certainly like to see new explorable areas added to the pve game, even if it is just for the sake of having a change of scenery. MOX and the fire imp, the title balance update, these were all very good things. I'd have liked to see new features and content though. 24.188.207.20 00:36, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- I agree they were very good things, but compared to other years, where we have expansions stand alones and BMP, which this year seemed to lack. 216.232.127.117
- Agreed. We can blame GW2 for that, I suppose. I'm really disappointed, the conjecture and extrapolation made about Utopia makes EOTN seem even more disappointing. The idea of Chronomancer and time manipulation magic mentioned about Utopia would have made a much better bridge to GW2. Regina's 20090109 Journal post indicates that they have something for GW1 in the works, though, so maybe 2009 will be a better year. 24.188.207.20 06:53, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

some nub on guru keeps saying its now in the game and a drop from the zchest. can you confirm that this is the truth? or that this screen is real? http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/6537/proofsinsterxb9.jpg thanks sorry to bother you or waste your time i know you said on Emily talk page that it wasn't in the game yet.75.165.125.117 11:06, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

2009 Plans
Hi Linsey,
When will we hear about the plans for guild wars for 2009. I noticed a couple Journal entries from your co-workers that there are some exciting news that we will soon hear about. Any ideas on when we can expect that news? Thanks a bunch! 216.232.127.117
- For me, if its more useless consumables that isn't exciting but they were excited about that so... o.O If its getting important stuff done, the HoM finished then that'd be exciting... actually new content (barring ridiciously add ons like that recent consumables) and the HoM is the only thing that would get my excited. Though, I can see them crafting a consumable that summons a rabbit to bite at the ankles of your enemies. 118.92.167.172 19:29, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Behold, i'm pretty sure it will be a new festival hat or something like that. Arent we excited :) Yseron 90.15.56.208 19:36, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Its hard to get excited on what gets them excited, because stuff they've worked on which was exciting for them, like skill updates or title updates is stuff the community has been wanting to ages. Yeehah! You've listened to us after so many years... thats exciting, I suppose ^_^
- I want a festival Moon hat ;) 118.92.167.172 19:44, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- Only thing i want to hear (and see) about is GW2 --92.235.60.31 19:45, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- I think the only thing that I would find exciting is new GW1 content. After reading those journal posts, I was excited about the possibility of it (a 4th chapter or expansion) but, then I remembered aNet's commitment to no new GW1 content. Come on, aNet, release another chapter or something for us to spend $50 each on so you can invest more in GW2! 24.188.207.20 06:46, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- I believe that most of these questions have been answered by today's ArenaNet:Developer updates. -- Wyn/talk 19:37, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Timer
I know it has been asked before but can't you guys make a timer on the main site which shows when event's start and weekend events and that sort of things that would be easier for alot of people to change the time in their timelinetable etc. I hope that you would look into this again. This sounds like a even better idea if it were actually added to the game as well. Maybe even just something that could be added to the options window during special event weekends.--Cattivo 03:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Canthan New Year
Could you let us know if the recipe ingredients for the chefs during the finale is going to change this year? It takes a while to farm the ingredients and it would be a huge letdown to find it requires a whole bunch of stuff from the farflung places in EOTN that a lot of us have never even got to yet. --Emkyooess 13:49, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

A suggestion
Hi Linsey! I would like to make a couple of suggestions regarding your talk page. I know you are doing your best to get caught up, but while doing so, you are just creating more of a monster. This page is currently over 300k, and your temp archive has also reached the 300k mark. I would like to suggest a temporary protection of your talk page, so you can get caught up and properly archived without anyone adding more. While there will be people who are unhappy about a short moritorium on posting their urgent issues for your attention, I truly think you need a break from new stuff on the wiki while you get caught up on the old. I would also like to suggest you allow us to move all suggestions for changes/additions to Guild Wars to the suggestion pages. The general policy for them is you are not required to reply/comment (though of course if you choose to, it would be welcomed), yet you would still be able to read and consider all of them, and they would be properly categorized as well. That would keep all the suggestions confined to the designated suggestion area, and keep all the community feedback to those suggestions there rather than here on your page. Please consider this as an attempt to help you as well as the wiki in general. Thanks!-- Wyn 20:24, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- I appreciate the suggestion Wyn, but at this time I am hesitant to have all the suggestions moved over to the suggestion pages for reasons I cannot go into right now. However, I do think that any reported bugs here should be moved over to the bug reporting pages as QA does frequent them and its the best way to have a bug be entered into the system. Is there a way to prevent anyone but myself from posting on my talk so I can catch up? I do like that idea... also, I'll be archiving anything placed in my temp archive before this week shortly. You are totally right that as I make progress on my talk, more and more people are taking the opportunity to post here and I'm starting to drown under the weight. grrr wish I had more time for this stuff... - Linsey talk 21:06, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it can be done, though someone, either one of our lovely bcrats or Emily, would need to move you from the plain ArenaNet usergroup (which confers no priviledges beyond a normal registered user) to ArenaNetContrib or ArenaNetLiaison (which have sysop-like powers, and thus can edit fully-protected pages). - Tanetris 22:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

- Given how the current plan is to delete the suggestions pages, I don't think that is going to happen... Erasculio 23:27, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Is that really the current plan? Geez. - Linsey talk 23:29, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- There is no current plan to delete the suggestion pages since there is no alternative to them other than staff talk pages. I thought Regina made that blatantly clear. Also, the GW Suggestion pages are not nearly as bad as the GW2 suggestion pages, and since Linsey and the live team deal with Guild Wars not Guild Wars 2, I don't see a big problem with my suggestion. However, since Linsey has made her wishes known, that's fine, I'm just trying to help her get unburied from this avalanche and offer her some alternatives. -- Wyn 23:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- There is a big internal discussion up here about the suggestion pages and what to do with them. Since this is currently ongoing, I am hoping that it will be resolved soon and I don't want to be forwarding suggestions on my page to those pages until the issues are cleared up or we at least have a better idea of what our stance is internally. I do very much like the idea of having the ability to lock my page so that I can catch up on archiving whenever it gets this bad. It is both difficult and discouraging to make so much progress only to have it fill right back up as I am working on it. Once I get things back to a state where I can do daily maintenance life will be much easier here. - Linsey talk 00:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

- I've added User:Linsey Murdock to the ArenaNetLiaison group. Linsey, the option you're looking for is the "protect" tab at the top of your page by the edit/delete/move tabs. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 01:11, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ooooh fancy! Thanks for the help Aiiane!
- Anyone wanna help me out by making a banner or something explaining why the page is locked temporarily? Once I get something like that, I'll lock this thing down. :D
- Thanks a lot for the help with this stuff, guys. I appreciate it. I think that once things get under control here, I'm going to be making some rules for using this page and add time for maintenance of the page to my normal schedule. - Linsey talk 01:59, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Done Linsey. I would suggest you also protect your temp archive as well. -- Wyn 03:31, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- I did a little ninja editing, both in getting the FAQ started, and setting up some organizational tools at the top of this page as well as moving your list of archived pages to your archive page. I blatantly stole the header design from Emily, but since it matches the rest of your userspace design, I thought it would be ok. I Thought the center box where the lock notice is now could be used for you to post the progress reports on content updates (like the HoM). Of course you can feel free to change any/all of what I've done, I was just trying to give you a little organizational help. -- Wyn 20:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

A suggestion
I noticed you still have Mike's userpage linked for posting skill bugs in your contact me box. I would like to suggest you direct users to post skill bugs here: ArenaNet:Skill bugs. Kim keeps a close eye on that page for skill bugs. -- Wyn 19:39, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- The reason I still have Mike's page up there is because he has a box with links to all the bug reporting pages. What I really need is a list of rules for posting here in my talk header as well as the links to those bug reporting pages in the header. I figure that once I have everything answered and archived on this talk, my journal talk and the temp archive I will detail out what I want for the rules of posting on my talk so that they can be listed in the header. I'll probably need some help getting the header fixed up into it's final form at that time. Thanks for the help with all this stuff Wyn, I really appreciate it! - Linsey talk 20:13, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- Just let me know what I can do to make it easier for you Linsey. I'm happy to help. -- Wyn 20:16, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Copyright.....
It's nice to see that you work under a pile of post-it notes, Linsey, but we believe this picture is a copyvio since it contains several copyrighted images. It makes sense that copyrighted images within another image cannot be released under the GFDL - thus cannot be uploaded here. Please advise if I'm wrong about this and Anet have different rules. Thanks, -- Indochine talk 23:52, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Could I see the policy you are referring to? I'd like to know which parts of the picture are the issue and if I could alter the picture to fix the issue. - Linsey talk 00:47, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Guild Wars Wiki:Copyrights is as close as you will get I imagine. Copyright is a tricky business. I would say the offending parts would be things such as the large poster of Totoro, the figuirines on your desk and possibly The Beatles posters. I have to say, I think in this case as it is a photograph of how things actually are on your desk I could not see a case of copyright infringement holding any water. Misery 00:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, we don't make the rules Misery, the ArenaNet legal department does. We are not allowed to post any image that carries a non-Arena Net, non GFDL copyright. -- Wyn 02:04, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, if you guys feel that it falls under that rule, go ahead and take it down. I'll amend my journal accordingly. I don't really have time to invest in this. - Linsey talk 04:22, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm reasonably certain that this is going beyond even "better safe than sorry" into "no one could possibly interpret copyright laws that way", but I can't think of a good argument for that belief that wouldn't fall into an endless spiral of drama of "but you let LINSEY post stuff like this", so... Would it satisfy everyone if we cropped the image down to just above the monitors? This would remove the Totoro wallscroll completely and most of the Beatles poster (most of the Guild Wars poster too, unfortunately, but better that than to see the image go completely). - Tanetris 05:02, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Someone could easily blur out any copyright material using photoshop, I just don't have the time or energy to do it myself. - Linsey talk 06:54, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- I cropped it down as Tanetris suggested. Indochine? Think that works ok? I know there are still a few figures on the desk, but the in your face stuff is gone.... -- Wyn 07:01, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- It's a bit late in the day now that Lynsey cropped and then removed her image :( but could this reasonably fall under the fair/free use of incidental inclusion, and therefore does not constitute a strict copyright infringement? --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 12:52, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

- @BramStoker: We don't allow Fair use on this wiki. That is exactly the problem we have with a lot personal images.. poke | talk 14:08, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Wouldn't the keyboard, headset, mouse and even the monitor be considered copyvio material? I seem to recall images of a keyboard/mouse/headset being deleted as copyvios but can't recall if it was because it showed the logo or because of the entire image all together. --Kakarot 14:15, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- [1] -> External image hosts are strong. It's ImageShack's problem now as to whether or not it's a copyvio. Misery 14:25, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Addendum, I hope you don't mind Linsey, I was trying to be bold. Maybe you would rather reformat so the link is on the first occurence of "desk", but meh. People should probably use external image linking more. You can externally link as many pokemons as you want afaik. Misery 14:26, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

- A pox on your house. Ignore all rules imo. Misery 14:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hm... suppose, instead of hot-linking a picture, we had a link to a page (for example, a personal blog) that had the picture (hmm... a text-less blog? maybe a one-picture fotolog?), would that be ok? :P --NIN37 15:01, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not arguing NIN37, just kicking Misery in the shin :P -- Wyn 15:03, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Meh, I do understand this wiki is not a personal home page, so we need some sort of solid set of rules to keep it working/organized (hehe... "common sense does not apply to groups with more than one individual").
- Just don't want to see all the trouble Linsey had to take and upload that picture gone waste just because of minor issues (but that does not mean we should just ignore rules at all). If we can somehow solve this, that would be great. :P --NIN37 15:27, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- As long as Linsey doesn't have a problem with the solution, it's pretty much solved. Wyn just hates me. Misery 16:24, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

- @Kakarot: Images of a keyboard/mouse/headset have been deleted as copyvios because said pictures were stolen from the manufacturer's website. The cropped image is fine. Frankly the uncropped image is fine, except that it'll result in taking the next six months trying to explain to people why a poster in the background of a photo is not the same as using a Mudkip image in your signature. - Tanetris 00:18, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yup from a legal backing I would have to say that Tane is right. -- Salome 00:49, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Solved problem is solved. Isn't it easier to just not open a can of worms? GWW could probably get away with being full of pokemon in the user space too, but I'm guessing people don't want to go that way. Misery 00:57, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Errr... in relation to the pokemon on home page thingy, not really mis, it's not incidental usage and thus it would be a breach of copyright law. I can go drudge up the legal reference points if you want them, although it might take awhile, been a couple of years since ive done copyright law, doesn't come up much in family litigation. ;) -- Salome 01:01, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Something being in breach of copyright law doesn't prevent people from pushing the edge every single day. I'm sure you know everything in a court is decided on precedence and interpretation anyway. I think the goal here is to just not to ever have lawyers involved at all by being blatantly in the clear. We don't need a photo of everyone's desk on GWW like this as kind of started happening on PvX today, although there is a relevant reason for Linsey's desk to be hosted. Easiest solution? External image host (as has been done), which allows the image to be viewed with no question of copyright on GWW's part and no questions of preferential treatment of Arenanet staff. I really don't see why it's being discussed at all unless Linsey has a problem with that solution. We don't NEED to have a picture of Linsey's desk stored on GWW, so it's just easier not to. Misery 01:12, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Chainmaille Doll Entered In Contest
- Chainmaille barbie doll looking for good display home with soon to be potential new owner Linsey. contact information GWO Guild Wars Chat Room --Zehnchu 22:52, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Maybe you didnt win because you used a barbie? lol
- Awww that's cute, sorry you didn't win anything. If you want to send it up to Anet, you could do that and we can put it into our display case. Or if you really want me to have it personally, I would happily display it on my cluttered desk for all to see. I'll even clean up a bit and post pictures of my crazy workspace. - Linsey talk 20:35, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you, I will leave the decision up to you where you wish to display it. I will be sending it soon.--Zehnchu 21:13, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

UPDATE! So I finally remembered to bring in my camera... that was a few weeks ago. I pretty much have been bringing my camera in every day since but I'd forget to take the pictures until after I've left the office or I would procrastinate cleaning off all the empty (mostly half-empty) soda cans and food wrappers on my desk... ANYWAY! I finally took pictures of the display case and of my desk/workspace. I need to load them up and blur out anything from my desk that I don't want you folks to see ~_^ and then I will post them. So, yeah, my update is that I still don't have anything to post yet... rofl... but I'll get to it eventually! I'm going to leave this subject up on my talk until I do!! - Linsey talk 02:19, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Template
Hey Linsey! In response to our conversation yesterday, I created User:Linsey Murdock/archive for you. See if that meets your requirements. -- Wyn 19:07, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- It allows 3 days for people to see your answers and respond if they wish, as well as let's them know it's going to be archived. -- Wyn 21:50, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Btw... if you want some help getting the holding tank stuff archived, just tag the sections with which archive you wish them to go to, and I will get it archived for you. -- Wyn 21:55, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Shouldn't the template link directly to the actual archive it's in? You could probably set it up to do so. And what about Monster sections like the Spawning debate above that got too damned long to read? --ilr 23:27, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- No, the template is only to tell people a section is being archived and to allow people to help Linsey keep stuff archived and her page current. It won't be left on the page once the section is removed. -- Wyn 23:35, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

- I've been meaning to post another journal entry talking about where I am at right now, but frankly I have been WAY too busy working. I know that people were expecting a little more information by now, but I'm already working 7 days a week for this build and I just don't have the time for more involvement in the community beyond what I am doing right now. That said, I don't think you will have to wait until build day to hear more about what we are working on. Oh, and it will be more than 28 days before the build goes Live. Looking forward to the forum threads that will inevitably pop up on April 3rd demanding to know when the build is coming out and why isn't it out yet???

- omg people, seriously, wow. Everyone needs to calm down for just a moment.
- Where did we say that Content Updates would come out on the first Thursday of the month? Maintenance Updates are usually on either the 1st or 2nd Thursday, but Content Updates don't stick to that. If we say a build will come out in September, the whole month counts. September 30th is just as much a part of September as September 1st is. We are not pushing back the build, once we determined what day it needs to be on, it has never deviated and we do not intend to do so. If I had no problem pushing back the build day, like you seem to think I don't, I probably wouldn't be working so hard on it.
- I know everyone is really looking forward to this stuff and believe me, so am I, but getting all worked up like this over a dozen words which can be misinterpreted in a million different ways doesn't help anyone and it certainly doesn't make anyone feel good. Besides, in the grand scheme of things, would the contents of the build be so inferior if it didn't come out on April 2nd but on the 9th instead? or the 16th? or the 23rd? or the 30th? OMG what if it wasn't a Thursday at all and came out on Monday the 13th!? PANIC!!! - Linsey talk 00:41, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- As long as it comes out before GW2, I'll be happy. No, seriously, GW is still lots of fun, and I still have lots I want to do in GW... I consider the updates as bonus rather than requirements. Am I curious? Yes. Am I impatient? A little bit. But the only good way to wait is to find something to do in the meantime. -- Alaris 01:31, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Well the thing with this update is there is suppose to be storage upgrades what ever that maybe. i know there are other people like me who curtly only have like 3 slots open on there volt box and at any given time on a toon would have 18 slots open on a toon. so its more then over needed. also saying a update is comeing out in a month and then haveing it come out on the last day of the month is just frustrating. and no company should ever do that pr wise. 75.165.102.233 01:57, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Or you could stop being a pack rat. (coming from the queen of pack rats this is irony) -- Wyn 01:59, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- I have to be honest, I must be one of the few peeps not really interested in the sorage updates. Don't get me wrong I'm over the moon for all the people it will help and I appreciate just how much efort and work this has been for the live team. Alas though its came abit late for me as I bought 16 extra char slots in January to sort out my storage needs. Thus Storage isn't a big thing for me, so I'm hoping their is something in the april update for those of us without storage problems, other than the HoM update. However if their isn't, I won't be upset as the amount of work which has gone into this update, and the amount of people it will make very very happy, makes me very confident for any future content updates after april. In short thanks for everything you do Linsey, it is appreciated and it is only a few nay-sayers who shout the loudest, but don't let them get to you. The majority of the wiki community understand how hard you work towards making the game better for all of us. -- Salome 02:09, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- "but frankly I have been WAY too busy working. I know that people were expecting a little more information by now, but I'm already working 7 days a week for this build and I just don't have the time for more involvement in the community beyond what I am doing right now." I see what your getting at, understood. No pressure. what ever works for you :) Delays and I are on good terms (should they be needed) as however long it takes to make something it's best is as long as I'm willing to wait. Don't worry so much about time, just give it everything you've got, well everything that isn't a detrimental amount to you that is.
- "came out on Monday the 13th!? PANIC!!!" No, no panic until that 13th is a friday XD — Jon Lupen 02:19, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- *Addendum* These words from Regina along this topic: "I'd also like to note that the big April update will be released at a different time from the regular monthly maintenance build, which happens at the beginning of the month." — Jon Lupen 02:42, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Ignore this little bit of speculation. But I have an erringly strong feeling that, since in 28 days is April 16th, and GW's b-day is April 28th *iirc*, that the big update will be around April 28th, if not on that day. Just needed to type that theory out. Also, LMFAO Linsey {wub} You need to play a comedic role for a GW2 character xD. - Actually, Linsey, if you can release it for GW's birthday (and mine, which is on the same day), I think it would be fitting with the fact that a birthday is a time for gifts and celebration. (And it'll give you until the end of the month to work on the update) ;-) Zahra 23:37, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Private.
Is there an email to get in contact with someone in charge of dealing with those who abuse game mechanics and break rules in the process? Rather not paint a picture and let this get out but I was never told anything beyond "I'm looking into it..." when the question was asked to Izzy. So is there anyone else to contact for such inquiries? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.98.60.22 (talk • contribs) at 01:21, 12 March 2009 (UTC).
- Support? --SilentStorm 00:27, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- You can email Linsey or Regina directly, or use support as SilentStorm stated above, but they will not tell you whether or not the person you reported or their account has been actioned or not. --★KOKUOU★ 00:29, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- No one at ArenaNet will tell you if specific actions have been taken or not, due to their privacy policies. You could also try Gaile's support talk page. -- Wyn 00:43, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- "You can email Linsey or Regina directly" is there a provided email for either? Or whichever would be best to contact in the issue game mechanics are manipulated. 24.98.60.22 00:54, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- If it's about player behavior, it's a support issue. If it's about suggesting a change to game mechanics, it's a Linsey/Regina issue. Regina can be reached at community@arena.net I believe. -- Wyn 01:03, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- And players abusing current game mechanics that need to be changed would be...both? 24.98.60.22 01:06, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Your only choice of action as a player is to report people abusing said mechanic(s), and let the correct people know said mechanic(s) are broken, beyond that, there is nothing you can do. File a support tick and leave the appropriate person a message about said broken mechanic(s) on their wiki talk page, if they have one. — Jon Lupen 01:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

If you are talking about a mechanic that is actually broken and people are abusing, you can email that to Regina at the community address given above. If you are talking about a mechanic that has loopholes which people are abusing then that is probably a support issue and should be forwarded to Gaile. Remember, I only accept bug reports on this page if they are directly pertaining to a bug introduced in a recent build and I don't discuss or address Support issues. - Linsey talk 03:46, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Is Linser Answer-Hammer-Happy?
I think so. (hides from answer-hammer) -- Alaris 04:39, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

- Hehe, I'm usually really mellow but whenever I get stressed my fuse shortens quite a bit. Lately it's been this awesome combination of everything hitting at once and creating a wonderful cycle of stresses looping all over my FACE. Not just work stuff either, been having a lot of intense family stuff happening which is a major distraction as well. You think I'm a little cranky on here? HA! You should talk to my poor honey. Poor guy gets the brunt of it all. hahaha - Linsey talk 22:53, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- That sounds rather unfortunate. I hope everything gets sorted out in a much more managable and less stressful fassion for you. You don't sound so cranky, just a little out of sorts, and of a not so favorable disposition towards daylight savings time, something a good many people share with you. XD I'm sure we all have our times of busyness and stress, but here's hoping it all ends for the better :) — Jon Lupen 23:38, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hang in there, Linsey! You've always been really good to us and I think I speak for everyone here when I say I hope it all, especially the family stress, works out! Pkohler01 02:27, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

- You guys are sweet, but don't worry about me. Even though I'm working all the time, I love where I work, I love the people I work with and I love the work I do. I'm not bogged down by debt, I can ignore my family drama, I've got great friends (all people I work with) and I've got the best honey I could ask for. So, all in all, life is awesome. I just want you all to know that I'm not really a jerk and I do still care about the community even if I'm cranky, snippy or just plain absent. <3 Linsey talk 04:43, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

New templates
Ok, turns out I had already anticipated part of your request and done User:Linsey Murdock/no archive, but I also did User:Linsey Murdock/Gaile and User:Linsey Murdock/Regina. That work? -- Wyn 06:56, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- How about placing a redirect to the template on those template's talk pages? {{/noarchive}} is shorter then {{User:Linsey Murdock/noarchive}}. — Why 16:09, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Just trying to keep it simple, and shorter isn't always simple. -- Wyn 17:37, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
May I point out one small detail? Gaile's last named is spelt Gray not Grey. Not that big of a deal but I though I might point it out. : )--BabyJ 19:18, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- HAHAHA! My bad... Gaile Grey redirects to her page, so it worked anyway, but thanks :D -- Wyn 19:51, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
On a side note, perhaps a template for Joe Kimmes like the ones Gaile and Regina? Something gives me a feeling questions fielded to Linsey that he should answer will grow in number. — Jon Lupen 22:04, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, now that Joe has become more active on the wiki, I can see this being very useful. Any code questions for Joe can go straight to Joe and if it's a code question that is likely to be for a programmer with a different specialty than Joe, then I can send them to Regina to track down an answer. - Linsey talk 22:17, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
