Usage[edit]

I'm not very wiki-savvy, but...how exactly will these be used in the mainspace? I don't see anything viable as to where it could be.... --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 17:27, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

I am about to put up a set of quest page status reports in the project area. The reports will be broken down by campaign and within each campaign, by region. The tabs will make the selection of which report to display possible and show which report is being displayed at the same time. --mtew 17:37, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'm still confused. What are these "reports" that will be included? Why not just link them in the notes if they're that important? --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 17:48, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
What makes this folder tabs better than a simple navigation bar we use on most of our pages on the wiki? poke | talk 18:27, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Give a guy a chance to get stuff in place will ya. The report is Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Quests/Category Report. One fairly important difference from the current navigation bars is that they can be used in a hierarchy. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mtew (talk • contribs) at 20:22, 17 May 2009 (UTC).

I'm not exactly sure about what this does, is it something similar to my page here? —Cake! Ebañy Salmonderiel 20:26, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Yes, except for the tab borders are a bit fancier on yours. --mtew 20:36, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Why exactly wouldn't something like Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/NPC models/Navbox work just as well, with far less complicated coding and no unnecessary intermediate page when switching between campaigns? - Tanetris 20:38, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
First, because that one is messy. There is simply too much in that navigation box to keep track of. Second, it's a maintenance nightmare. Each and every entry had to be constructed by hand. While you can do that with 'Template:Folder Tabs', you do not have to. The list of campaigns, with the exception of 'Core' and 'PvP' (called 'Other' in the report) is generated automatically. Likewise, the list of regions.
Look, it is simply a different approach from the other nav-bars. It produces a different kind of navigation. If you don't want tabs, don't use this template. If you want tabs, this template should be able to fill your needs nicely. --mtew 01:23, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
