How to proof you are innocent if you got banned?
Hey, I noticed you where pondering about this. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that Arenanet stores every input in a database. I recall an incident that I reported where someone wanted to "buy" account codes. After sending my mail to NCsoft, the person that answered me assured me that they would check the database, and if my claims appeared to be true, take action. Which they did.
I guess NCsoft is watching us all, making sure everything stays fair. I personally find it hard to believe that someone could get banned while being innocent in this system. Their is also the "PrtSc" button on your keyboard, which tends to be usefull too.
With this fact in mind, it's interesting to realise that everything you do is being stored in a database. In theory (and in my mind :P)they have enough data to recreate long forgotten events. They could even create an alternative world! A dimension where our characters revive our memories!
We could prevent The Searing! Save Gwen!
Perma Shiro before he kills the emperor!
Use pain Inverter on Varesh before she grows 6 eyes and
we could change "Wintersday" into "We-Love-Asura-now-give-me-a-Conset"-Day!
Yes! It's brilliant! Muahahahaha -- Okay, never mind, it's not going to happen.
Moral of the story: If you get banned, you did something wrong. It might be a small wrong, it was still a bad thing. Don't do bad things and you won't get banned. ^^
With all best regards,

- Yeah I know they store every action but I'm wondering if they use a program of some sorts that can recognize algorithms/paterns used by bots or if they do it manually. But thx for your input :). Qaletaqa Hania 16:59, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- My guess is that they use both: A program that picks out any anomalies and Moderators that control the reports (human and computer generated alike) AidanReed 18:36, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah that is my guess to.

- I forgot to mention in my first response that PrtScr isn't gonna proof anything, I faked screenshots in the past for fun. Useful to proof your innocence? not really.
- Also there have been people that got banned when beeing innocent, those I know of did get their account unbanned after further investigation, wich takes a few days or even weeks. What that says to me is that "the system" , on occasion, does make mistakes. Qaletaqa Hania 04:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Doesn't every file have a recorded date of creation and a date of alteration? ("Aanmaakdatum" en "Gewijzigd op" in Dutch) Even when you consider the different time zones, one would have to really keep track of the time while saving their project. Also, printscreens will mostly be used by players to prove their innocense to other players, as NCsoft already has the full (and true) data to the incident. So yeah, screenshots won't do any good, they won't do any damage either :)
- I personally never met a player who had their account banned, so I can't really tell if your story is true. For the ease of matters, let's just assume that you are right. ^^ I guess that a really important matter while investigating an account is the form of the "crime". Leechers aren't as bad as someone that steals accounts in my eyes.
- So yeah, I was indeed wrong to state that a system like that can make mistakes. Then the real question would be: "Where does the mistake come from?"
- But that's a topic for another time,
- Sincerely,

- Aidan, I think you're giving Play NC too much credit. If they can't tell you how dishonorable works, you can't trust that their judgment with other game mechanics. --Riddle 14:14, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input, it really contributes towards the discussion. :) Well, frankly I tend to behave like a Zwitterion in a discussion, so the harder someone screams "Yes", the harder I wil says "No", just so we have seen both sides of the matter. It's not that I ignore the few rotten apples festering within Play NC. I am not that familiar with the dishonorable system. I am a rare kind of PvE player that doesn't care about Metagame or farming. I prefer a Dungeon Crawl over a Dungeon Run anyday.

- I guess a "L33t" PvP player must think low of me when I speak of game balance. But after 3 years of playing a Ranger, you could assume that I have a logical understanding of the game, and if not, that I have at least some expertise of the ranger skills (Pun intended :P).
- So when, for example, Arenanet decides to change the functionality of Comfort Animal like they did in the last update, I can't help but praise them for an excelent piece of out-of-the-box thinking, giving rangers the possibility to bring their pets back into the game. No? Well, I guess not. I noticed some players nagging that "Heal as One" didn't get an update, etc etc.
- Did Arenanet make a mistake by forgetting to update "Heal a One" too? Does their failure with Ursan, Shadow Form and he handling of many other skills indicate failure and a troubled view of mechanics? I personally don't think so. While Ursan broke the game, it also functioned as a doorstep for many players to Hard Mode, and Perma's enable everyone to visit and complete every dungeon in the game. That's why it's still alive.
- If you want to enjoy the game without the metagame, all you really have to do is say "NO". Most people just don't choose to.
- Same goes for the Dishonourable system, I guess. Most people just don't choose to play fair. :/
- Arenanet edits the game, but the players shape it.
- Most players simply accept the game as it is, notrealising that they can make a difference.
- Some players however take the game as a gift, and elevate it to the next level.
- Sadly, that proces repeats itself a bit too much :/
