Topic, start.[edit]

Well, first, compare it to Grasping Earth before you do anything else. →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 02:02, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Aura of Thorns is more utilizable by Dervishes, which is the relationship that makes this equation go south. Aura doesn't break a melee's attack speed, is scaled down by Mysticism, and provides a feeder enchantment for the Dervish in an attribute rife with great feeder enchantments for Dervishes. Basically, the Dervish trades none of its face-stomping power for the ability to spontaneously cripple their targets, whereas they would using Grasping. -- Oiseau | User Oiseau Melandru.jpg 02:14, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Counters to Grasping Earth:
  • Interrupts (each team has at least 3 of these), Hex Removal (and two of these), and running out of range before it casts.
Counters to Aura of Thorns:
  • RC (you get one in GvG and 0 in HA), Draw (you get 1 in GvG and 0 in HA), and FF (GvG: 1, HA:0). Single-condition removals (and even mtouch and LS, to an extent) don't work because lol dervishes. You can't run out of range while it casts because it doesn't have a "while it casts".
Benefits/Drawbacks of speccing into Earth Magic:
  • Grasping Earth
  • Secondary Profession use, points in non-melee-supporting att (except grasping earth).
Benefits/Drawbacks of speccing into Earth Prayers:
Cost of Grasping:
  • 10e.
Cost of Thorns:
  • 40% less. That's like saving a fucking grand on a 3DTV.
Grasping Earth is a comparable skill and it's really surprising that people aren't using it more. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 2:28, 25 Apr 2011 (UTC)
That's what I was saying. But it doesn't surprise me at all because of the 'flash' part. However. The main reason I use this skill over earth is because I ACTUALLY need the cripple. i.e. Trampling Ox. →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 03:16, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Raine wins.[edit]

That is all. User Ryuu R.jpgRyuu  *bite* 15:49, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Eh?[edit]

"There's nothing wrong with that, really, when a Ranger does it." But a Ranger doesn't do it. Cripshot can be dodged, it has a cast time (susceptible to interruption), only applies to one target, and has to worry about blinds. There would be something wrong with that if a Ranger (or any other profession) could do it. That's beside the point, though; instant-cast-through-everything-AoE-cripple is broken regardless of which condition comes first. I suppose the swap would have accomplished something if Pious Fury didn't exist to still make it an instant cast, condition order be damned, but Pious Fury isn't the problem skill. A dozen other teardowns exist to abuse the functionality of this class design if Fury does get nerfed. 72.74.247.100 22:09, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
