Re: 9 January 2009 Journal Entry

When should we expect an announcement? Will it be this month or is this something set for like Q2 or Q3? 24.188.207.20 04:42, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, she said "soon", I'd say August would be a good guess. Maybe July if we're lucky. --IP address 17:24, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

what where how i am curious :3 Fox007 User:Fox007 19:24, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Developer Update. Arenanet makes one massive claim, I hope they can live up to it and its not just more empty words. 118.92.167.172 19:27, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
found it ;) Fox007 User:Fox007 19:31, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Though excited I take a lot of it with a grain of salt however until my doubts are proven wrong. A lot of it sounds nice though, was nice coming on after the morning cup of tea and finding something that could actually be a strong Arenanet/Community relationship development in the works. Hopefully we're now past that awkward introductions and into some kind of nervous hand-holding situation. Awww, doesn't that look so cute. ^_^ 118.92.167.172 19:37, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I have to honestly say that the contents of that dev update were surprising to me. For years aNet has done minimal things with storage and now we see news that there's plans to release what might be a HUGE change in the way storage works. I, personally, feel very encouraged by this as well as the plans for quarterly content updates. Thank you for providing this news to us. I hope aNet exposes more details to us during the development process. 24.188.207.20 01:49, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Tournament Ruling translated into non-fail.

In the most recent GvG tournament which is broken anyway because we fail completely at PvP balancing, Our Bad Balance Team Says[rawr] and Anet's I Q[zero] tied by agreeing to not fight while the timer counted down, guaranteeing them a place in the Top 16 Gimmick Build Abusers. Based on YouTube Poops and Encyclopedia Dramatica reviews of the event, our best guess was that both guilds intentionally tied the match in this way. Therefore, our broken tournament system crashed, generated an unhandled exception because we people at Anet don't know ---- about exception handling, and crashed the game. Don't worry, we restarted it, but we're still trying to get enough money to hire a professional debugging team(the last one quit to go work for Blizzard). It was very clear that both teams broke the tournament rules, but that wouldn't have been possible if we hadn't broken the ---- out of our game and if we actually had a clue about how to design automated matches. Both teams agreed to tie the match, and they did so knowing that people at Anet don't give a darn because they're busy falling asleep at their desks or playing WoW during work hours. Ladder manipulation will not be tolerated, ever since the ladder fell down 2 years ago and landed on our balancing team walking under it, which probably made them smarter than their previous zero IQ anyway.

As a result, we did nothing to both teams. It's not like cape trims mean anything when you can run hexway and abuse broken game mechanics. Our Bad Balance Team Says[rawr]'s guild cape will not look like an elite skill for 1...3...4 months(Attribute:Cut out the e-drama and balance the game, Anerf) and Anet's I Q[zero] will receive no punishment either since we don't care. The guilds' rankings will remain the same as ranking means nothing with all the crappy gimmicks that we generated over the past 2.5 years.

We think that removing cape trims instead of resetting rankings sends a stronger wireless signal to the guilds than our ISP can support, so beware of random error 7's. Future offenses...Oh noes...Get over it, it's just a game that no one cares about anymore (Attribute:It's just a game, no need to punish people over a stupid game. You are all acting like 8 year olds, everyone at Anet and everyone in the tournament which Anet should cancel anyway) may be treated in a stricter manner, including permanent bans, due to us running out of money and we can't afford having top guilds log on all the time to practice.

We are working on updating breaking the balance of the game further to encourage even more gimmicks (Attribute:Anerf generates e-drama and fixes something that doesn't exist while the metagame destroys itself further) to further prevent ladders from falling on our balancing team department of fail. We will be updating the tournament rules, when we SHOULD be updatng more skills and fixing/overhauling the entire game. But hey, that's Anet for you.

If you have any feedback or comments about this decision, we would like to kindly inform you that we do not give a ---- about your input, but thanks for caring anyway. People who don't believe that should contact the Community Team at anet_community@trashmail.net.

1) Terrible troll 2) You're not funny. You really should stop while you're ahead. --TalkRiddle 14:20, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
The above does not consitute a breach of NPA. If you still disagree, bring it up on the admin noticeboard for administration to decide. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 16:53, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Restructuring

err...So what happens to Martin and Peter? -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:49, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Like all the community managers at NCsoft West Europe, they've unfortunately been let go. D-: It was a pretty big shock to all of us, to be honest. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 00:54, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Godspeed to you Regina in keeping up with your now larger work load, and to Arena Net in finding someone to replace them. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 00:56, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
But those two blokes are ACE! *cries* Please pass along my condolences to them and hopes that they find a new job soon. Times are quite tough in the UK at the mo with the credit crunch and all. I don't want to leave it on their talk page however, as it will probably just result in alot of random ip's trolling like when Gaile changed roles. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 00:57, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Bah! I'm bad at this >.< Similar wishes that Martin and Peter find, not only new jobs, but ones they can be happy at. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 01:00, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Jon: I've actually been working with a fairly heavy workload ever since I started at ArenaNet. Before I joined, the in-house Community Team had two full time staff and a third person working part time. At the moment, it's just me, without any assistance.
I spoke to Peter earlier and he's trying to stay in good spirits. Martin and the others all went to the pub after the news. I really feel for them. They're all good people. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 01:03, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
It is a tad worrying though that the past 3 quarterly reports have brought bad events with it. With Q2 08 having redundancies, Q3 having Tabula Rasa closed (which admittedly was terrible) and now Q4 right round the corner and more redundancies. Thus I not only wish the Euro's well (me being a euro and all, I'm a tad biased), but all the American's too, as that seems to be the only western office which hasn't taken hits thus far. I hope that this spells an end to the ncsoft down sizing. :( EDIT: oh bugger I take that back, Austin got hit too last year. D: -- Salome User salome sig2.png 01:11, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
@Regina: I knew it was already a pretty extensive workload to begin with, but something gives me the feeling that it's going to get even heavier for the time being. If not, well...... — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 01:51, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
The changes mean good things for the company from a broad perspective. I just wish it didn't have to have this human cost, and especially in this economy. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 02:29, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Does this mean Guild Wars support will be handled dircetly by Anet now? As I understood it, it was run by NCSoft before. Ashes Of Doom Talk 02:57, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
To my knowledge, customer support has not been affected. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 03:02, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Will this mean that the communities that they where listening to will be left muted? Or will be any solution about that sooner or later other than they going to English fansites? MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 20:48, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
We are going to be looking into hiring community managers onsite with the language skills needed. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later, but with this change still being so new, I don't have a time line for you on when we can bring those people on board. We still have to look for them. Looking for the right people can be really tricky, because we're looking for a lot of specific skills. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 22:40, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Me and my guild , as a part of the wonderfull community you, Martin, Peter and all the rest of the community team have created for us over the past years, wants to pass on our deepest feelings to you and all of you´re colleques. In this hard ecenomic times it is an unpleasant idea to be confrontated with the uncertainty of a next day. I hope you can pass along our deepest respect and good luck wishes to all of them in finding a new future. We love you guys, thanx for all those nice GW years. Didis 21:07, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Comments for "Eventful Week - 19 February 2009"

I'd like to start organizing comments for my journal like so. A new section for each post. If you all can think of a better way to organize it, please let me know. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks! --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 02:50, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Sounds like the best way to organize it tbh. I'm glad to hear that there might be more people on the way to keep our games addicting ;o ---Chaos- 11:52, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the kind words, Regina. Let's hope everything works out fine, so we can rock the place :)--Martin Kerstein (talk) 16:12, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Very often, work visa's are granted to individuals who are determined to be able to perform a function or specialty that is otherwise relatively limited in the domestic workforce. If this is indeed a consideration and would influence INS decisions in a positive manner, perhaps aNet could toss up a petition in favor of Martin's receipt of a visa. Honestly, though, I feel that he should be offered the opportunity to work remotely (from Europe) if the visa becomes an issue. Lots of people work in home offices these days. Best of luck! 24.188.207.20 00:00, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

About localization

If you ever need or want something translated for your non-English speaking Dutch (not German) fans, I'd be more than happy to do so for free. Dutch is my native language and English is a close second, so if you ever need me, just give me call (wiki talkpage will do). 145.94.74.23 16:04, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

You rock Regina :)

Ridiculous waiting times in Aspenwood and JQ

Is anything going to be done about this I mean waiting 10 minutes for a match is insane, I understand you guys are busy but I was hoping this would be improved soon thx for your time --Kyounshi 03:16, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood require a certian amount of players for a match to start, talk to the player masses and not Arena Net. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 20:56, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Update on March 30th

Not sure this is the right place, but I was told a few people got tournament prediction pts yesterday. There was a countdown from the npc who distributes pts, etc. Wild hallucinations from pie-induced ecstasy or someone at anet loaded what he shouldnt? :) 189.33.73.217 13:53, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Actually the NPC that gives out the points will always have a countdown when he gets overloaded with people clicking on him. No points were given just alot of people thinking that the points were available so they were overloading him.Sarge 13:59, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
