GWWT tagging
Hey Wyn, did you know that you can place more than one tag at a time using GWWT rather than doing them seperately? --Kakarot 02:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- No, cuz poke never explained it to me :P-- Wynthyst 02:38, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- As an example say you want to place both a guild image tag and a screenshot image tag on an image, first click the guild image tag link in the sidebar then once the GWWT box has come up go back to the sidebar and click the screenshot image tag link. This can be done with pretty much anything of GWWT. Hopefully that made sense since I can sometimes be rather bad at explaining things causing more confusion than help. --Kakarot 02:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ok.. I was trying to do them in the same GWWT box :P Couldn't figure it out, and this guy has me kinda rattled anyway :P-- Wynthyst 02:46, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Adding Images to the Wiki
I'm adding images to the wiki, for articles at the moment, some of which have been or are selected for deletion because they are orphaned. They won't be in a couple of mins. You sent me a warning message, this is a response.Gorefiend 17:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've reverted the tags on Image:HCT.jpg and Image:HRT.jpg, they shouldn't have been tagged that quickly after upload. Edit: I noticed you uploaded a second copy of each after the first was tagged - you didn't need to do that Gorefiend, tagging an image for deletion doesn't automatically delete it. If you could please choose which name you'd like to use for each and tag the other named copies for deletion, that'd be great. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 17:46, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- Grinsh could make any number of positive contributions here, he's intelligent, and knows the game (GW) well. He sells himself way short playing the fool. He could start by convincing all his fanboys that trolling is just a waste of everyone's time. As for IRC, I had nothing to do with that. -- Wynthyst 02:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Page size
How can you tell how big a page is? — Renuro Seru Talk 23:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you use your browser to save your page to your desktop (Save page as), with FireFox, it will save the html file and create a folder that contains all the images on the page. Then right click on the folder and look at the properties. This will give you the overall size of all the images, then add that to the size of the html file.-- Wynthyst 23:25, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
There should be a simpler way :\ — Renuro Seru Talk 23:39, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I think you should make something :) like a userbox that shows page size — Renuro Seru Talk 23:43, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

You would make it auto update :) — Renuro Seru Talk 23:51, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- if we had access to the required data, i think that would actually be possible. after all, the history also shows page size of each version, so the data has to be somewhere, but it's inaccessible for us. - Y0_ich_halt 12:18, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- The size on the history only says how big the textual page is (the code you write) but isn't the rendered code and doesn't include any images. poke | talk 12:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Wyn...
You don't have to revert all of the tags, most of them still deserved it. :/ (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 07:36, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- No, that's fine, I have only been discussing this for the past how many hours? Not to mention doing it.. once again, something that really would only be beneficial to the namespace gets me kicked in the teeth. So I'm done. -- Wynthyst 07:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- No one is "kicking you in the teeth", Wyn. I'm sorry I wasn't around to comment earlier, but can you really fault me for only commenting once I was even aware that anything was happening? We obviously disagree on what would be in the best interests of the namespace, but that doesn't mean we need to get upset about it. I'd prefer if you'd keep talking about it with me rather than just tossing it away, please? (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 07:43, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- The chances that any of these pages would not get tagged for inactivity after 6 months is virtually nil. I've been trying very hard to make changes in the way the Guild namespace is regulated, and dealt with, and all I ever get back is 'guild pages are 'trivial'. It's a namespace like all the rest in here, and the fact that it has game integration makes it actually one of the more visible ones imo, but it seems that absolutely no one else gives a shit, so, why should I? The policy is a crock, it's totally unenforceable as it stands, but no one cares enough to even comment on a change proposal. And yes, obviously we have totally opposing views on what constitutes content, I don't feel that infobox content is in any way adequate, since that is NOT the information I'm looking for when I visit a guild page, and I actually doubt it's the major factors that others are looking at either, not to mention a white page that doesn't have so much as the guild tag in the header is just bad. But I'm just a nobody around here, so meh.. I'll get over it. And you are right... reverting all those tags that I have placed in the past 4 hrs is just not worth my time.-- Wynthyst 07:52, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think I should point out that I've never really been a fan of deleting guild pages for inactivity, with is where a portion of my view on the matter comes from. I don't see a harm in having pages which only provide a small amount of content; they still add value to the wiki that wouldn't be there if the page didn't exist.
- You're not a nobody here. I don't see anyone condemning you, nor do I see an avalanche of people overriding you left and right. You have to remember that things take time to change here, especially when other places are getting more attention, not necessarily because of merit (I personally see the guild namespace as having a lot of merit, there's so much potential in what could be done with it), but simply because people are causing drama elsewhere. There's not really all that much drama in the guild namespace, and that's both a boon and a curse. On one hand, it means that we don't have to deal with people trolling policy proposals or the like, but on the other hand it means that people don't flock to the proposal pages at all. It takes perseverance to get a policy for something other than main/userspace passed, but I still think it's possible.
- I'll do my best to take a look over the proposed guild pages policy tomorrow when I have some free time at work; quite honestly it hadn't really popped onto my radar recently either. Hopefully we can figure out something that would satisfy both our desires about values for the guild namespace. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 08:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Tagging guilds for clean up.
Where in the policy does it state that guild pages can't be like noticeboards? Dominator Matrix 05:24, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- GWW:GUILD Categorically Disallowed - Guild pages, which include their talk pages, shall not be used as a chat forum, recruitment board or guild roster. Guild pages shall not be used to contact the guild members.-- Wynthyst 05:27, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- It is actually one of the few really enforceable parts of the guild page policy.-- Wynthyst 05:29, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see it in that fashion. I see it as them telling the community whats going on. Dominator Matrix 05:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- The overall point is that guild pages aren't supposed to harbor content that's changing on a weekly basis, that's what guild websites are for. Guild pages are intended to document basic information about a guild that doesn't change from week to week, like core values, et cetera. (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 05:31, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's also not of community interest if they are having an officers' meeting, or how much their guild savings is. That is guild specific information.-- Wynthyst 05:33, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Before you keep tagging, i am kinda curious about your criteria. Mainly because:
- Pages with content in the body page and little or none in the infobox where tagged.
- Pages with content in the body page and little to none in the infobox had small fixes but weren't tagged.
- Pages with full infobox and no body content were tagged.
- Pages with full infobox and no body content had small fixes, but weren't tagged.
I have been unable to find a pattern (like "having contact info", or "general info", or "playing style"), so not sure why some of them are tagged and why others aren't.--Fighterdoken 08:44, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- There were some issues with some of the ones that got tagged yesterday. Currently I'm tagging anything that is either just the guild name or just the guild name and no other usable content, such as a guild leader to contact. If there is usable content visible in the infobox, I don't tag them. This is just an attempt to clean up the guild namespace of clutter, because that's all these pages are is clutter, and the chances that they will change in the 6 months prior to being tagged for inactivity is virtually nil. By tagging for cleanup, it at least gives them a week to do something with them. -- Wynthyst 08:50, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- A more rational answer than 'Coz it says so in some policy' is that while your User page is yours to manage, all talk pages belong to the community. But more specifically, because User page policy specifies the restrictions to User talk pages. -- Wynthyst 14:57, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Image Request
Hey Wyn, do you mind making me one of those animations that you and Anja use, when you have time that is? Size wise something around 50-100px (wide) and 40-50px (high), although those numbers aren't definite 50px high is the only one that really would be important as a max. For the colour of the K maybe #EE0000 unless you come up with a better one. Also for the background colour if possible transparent if not #DDDDDD would work fine. Apart from that you are free to make it as you see fit :) --Kakarot 16:19, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Great work! What type did they finally have in gw.dat? Btw, your list does not include Image:Burning skull2 cape emblem icon.png. —ZerphaThe Improver 13:18, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have barely scratched the surface in uploading them. I will get that one added. I need to rename some of the first ones I uploaded since I decided to leave off the "icon" in the file name, and once I get them all uploaded I'll have wikichu move them to a non icon category. -- Wynthyst 13:21, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, i'd also leave the "icon" part out. Wikichu ftw^^ —ZerphaThe Improver 13:24, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

- Hard to say...some of them maybe simply "pattern"? 13 could be named "triple chop", as it's very similar to the skill icon. 21 coul d be a mantid. 25 something like "leaves"? 24 looks really weird, i'd call it a kobold or a goblin, but that doesn't exist in gw...maybe a gaki with much imagination :P Nr. 1 looks like these canthan buildings...they have a specific name afaik, but i don't remember it yet. btw, Image:Burning skull1 cape emblem icon.png rather looks like a mask imo. —ZerphaThe Improver 14:19, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey.. so I don't mean to be picky, but since you mentioned it over on Warwick's page... "I would have to agree that it needs to be changed to comply with GWW policy.--Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 20:53, 23 June 2008 (UTC)", I should point out GWW:SIGN specifies 19x19 max for a sig image. Yours is 23x19. ^_^ -elviondale (tahlk) 21:33, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

I recommend we leave it alone, and perhaps notify other people to leave it alone until tempers cool.(Edit conflict x3) Yes, GWW:1RR has been violate many times, but (in the spirit of policy) I suggest we let this one go. This person doesn't quite know (or want to know at this time) of the general rules and policies of the wiki. --People of Antioch 07:52, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Why not simple create the Archive for this user instead of the constant undo's?. --Silverleaf 07:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Later, again, when tempers cool. This specific user does not want their page touched in anyway what so ever. We just have to be patient and explain the general workings to them later. --People of Antioch 07:56, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Reverts
If you revert my page one more time i am deleting and re-creating my account. MikuChan 07:52, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's not technically possible to do so. You are fully allowed to register a new identity, if you wish. Backsword 07:55, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- And btw.. talk pages belong to the community, not the user. You are free to do whatever you wish with your main user page, but there are rules about what you can and cannot do with the associated talk page, and blanking them is something you can't do. I'm not flaming you, or swearing at you, I'm just explaining the rules, and trying to help. If you do the same thing on another account, I would act exactly the same way, as I do with any user I see who doesn't appear to understand how things are done here.-- Wynthyst 08:05, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Not to worry Wyn, MikuChan, Backsword & Antioch. Have a good night sleep and see what has been done to help in the morning. --Silverleaf 08:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- I personally disagree with archiving someone else's talkpage. It's a breach of wiki etiquette and should be avoided. -- Wynthyst 08:10, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Blanking a talk page is against policy, yet Miku still does it ;) I view things as when you break the rules, you are no longer protected by the rules. —Utopian ♫ 08:12, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- If someone blanks their talk page continuously, even after notices about archiving, arhiving it for them is more polite than keeping up the notices or constantly reverting -- you're doing them a favour by 1. showing them the process and 2. stopping with the reverts, notices and further violations. As you said, Wyn, talk pages are belong to us, the community, so in cases where a new user does not know the archival process, it's nice to help out. (However, it's better that people should not archive other users' talk pages in normal situations, but for new users, I don't have a problem with it, especially if the talk page is being blanked anyway.) -- Brains12 \ talk 08:17, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well, this didn't seem so much like someone who didn't know the rules, as someone who didn't care about the rules once they were politely pointed out to him. So doing for him what he should be doing himself is just a waste of my time. He didn't wait for an answer to his question why, or for that matter even go look at the rules that were linked, he simply blanked again, and became beligerent. THIS is exactly why I will NEVER be a sysop here, I have no patience for people who are unwilling to learn.-- Wynthyst 08:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- @Utopian & Backsword. I agree with rules and such but i believe in helping to get to know the rules before blatendly undo and end up in edit wars. MikuChan doesn't have to know all the rules yet and needs your help other than a simple "undo-because-the-rules-say-so".
- @Wyn, wiki-etiquette...haven't thought about that point of view but then again etiquette is a personal view based on experience. Yours is extensive so there will be a very good lesson in it for sure. This user gets disencouraged by the "Policy-undo's" and didn't respond yet on the offered help to archive. Maybe this will settle the back-and-forth between ya'll. --Silverleaf 08:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- There really is nothing to settle, it was something I saw happening, and I did what I felt was appropriate. I've had my revert, so I'm done. I would guess that when you check his page tomorrow, you will find it has been blanked again, including the archive link, and nastiness on your user page. But that is only a guess.-- Wynthyst 08:36, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- That might be the case :). And i will remember your warning. There might be a good surprises in-store. But then again i am a hopefull gall :). --Silverleaf 08:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

- Wyn, I am sorry for breaking the guild wars wiki rules by blanking my user talk page. But you must understand that this is my first experience dealing with Guild Wars Wiki editors and it has NOT been a pleasant one. The first thing ever posted on my talk page was a nasty flame from Oni. How am I supposed to react? I was pissed off. I contribute to GuildWiki, the "Unoffical Wiki" and have never had this kind of thing happen to me. I am usually very respectful and conscious of the rules. How would you react if your first experience with a wiki was getting flamed for sharing your opinion? I'm guessing you wouldn't be too motivated to be contribute anymore, and I bet you would be mighty angry about it. Maybe that's just me, I dont know. Anyway, I am offering my apologies so I hope there are no hard feelings. If you look at my contribs you'll see that besides creating a page for my old guild and a personal page, the only real page that I have contributed to was the Developer Discussion about Ursan Blessing and this was the feedback I got from it, not even on the actual UB discussion page itself but on my UserTalk page. - Well, Wyn didn't have that great start on GWW as well but she managed to become a loved person (see the wub and the birthday section above :P) - but without breaking the rules.
- Btw. I would like you to not circumvent your block by contributing as an IP user. Thanks. poke | talk 20:12, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Have the same opinion of Ursan as you do, and I get flamed all the time. I am also sorry, after reading my post to you I realized I hadn't linked the userpage policy, I was also tired. It's not a problem, just know that there are MANY of us here at GWW who value good contributors, but there are just as many who act like fools. The whole Ursan conversation seems to bring out the fools. Know that GWW:NPA is highly enforced here. Use of profanity is frowned upon in general, but in conjunction with NPA will be dealt with swiftly. I wasn't trying to harass you, I was trying to help. Please honor your ban, and come back when it's done! -- Wynthyst 20:12, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
