That's nice, he's blocked. Shard, you know I don't hate you either, but you really need to re-think your attitude. You have confused what the purpose of this wiki is... this is for documenting the game, the feedback pages are for providing feedback. None of has to do with fixing the game, none of it has to do with voicing your opinions.... you are free to voice your opinions, as long as they don't violate policy, in your userspace which is why I didn't say anything at all to you about your Fail page. When you go on another wiki users' page... and start ranting and raving about their lack of IQ, and their lack of care for GW, and have THREE developers call your posts attacks... does that not give you a clue? I don't give a shit how frustrated you are that you don't feel listened to, that kind of thing has no place on this wiki, it doesn't further the purpose of documenting the game, and if anything is going to alienate the developers from spending ANY time here, listening to ANYTHING at all which I'm sorry to disagree with you, but they do, or their pages would be blank, and their contributions would be zero. You seriously need to take a deep breath and count to 100. If you haven't done anything wrong (which you seem to claim), you have nothing to worry about with ArbComm. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 03:51, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Seriously, it's JUST a wiki, come on wtf. Just have fun, get your info and... have fun again. No need to cause drama and get people actually getting pissed off about a... wiki. O.o -- Halogod35 TALK TO ME NAO plz. :D 03:52, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
@ Halogod this wiki likes to drag everything around in the dirt, mud, and then have it run over. All I can say is "Here we go again..". Now I think wyn will appricate us to talk elesewhere. Dominator Matrix 03:54, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey, wyn. Is there going to be another Design-A-Weapon contest? I just thought you might know, because I'd like to get involved if there is another one :)--Volken Blade 17:04, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Hiya Volken! Wyn does not work for Arenanet so she does not have information like that. Remember that all of the users here (including admins like Wyn) are just regular players like you and me. Guru question

Wynthyst, I apologize for contacting you here. I did try to use the Guildwarsguru "Contact us" link, but I have my doubts about it actually working. The problem is that I'm not receiving email notifications when I'm outbid on an auction. I'm receiving other emails from Guru auctions, and I've double checked spam folders. No "outbid" messages at all. And since Guru isn't sending me all email, it wouldn't surprise me if the message I sent via "Contact us" was thrown towards /dev/null as well.

Could you let me know if you've received the message I sent earlier today? (Note, I totally understand if it's not a simple fix, I'm just trying to verify that the message got to the right place, not pestering you for answers) --Nkuvu User Nkuvu sig button.jpg 23:25, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

The outbid notice system seems to be having some issues. It's not just you. I did receive your email, I've just been trying to contact our techs to see if there is something that can be done about it as well as trying to vote, AND go to the dentist. For now I can only suggest you place your highest proxy bid, and then pay attention. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 23:31, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Multiple pages for a user page

Hi, this is Quex. I am fairly new to the wiki and am getting used to putting my page together, the thing is that I have so much info I would like to put on, I need seprate pages for it exp. Main page, Character page, and so forth, I think its called a navbar? Can you please give me some pointers on how to make this becaue I am clueless. Quex 05:18, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Sure, essentially, you create your subpages by creating new pages with this naming format User:Quex/<subpage name>. Then you can either A- create direct links to those subpages on your main page, or, B- create a nav bar that can be easily repeated on each page, by making a separate subpage User:Quex/nav bar and then including it by using curly brackets at the top of each page you wish it to appear on. The easiest way to do this (especially for a beginner) is to find a page that has the style of nav bar you wish to use, and then just copy/paste the code to your userspace, and modify the links with your own information. I hope this answers your questions, and if you wish any more help, please don't hesitate to ask. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:50, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, could I get a tip on how to create a new page? or the subpage? Quex 20:26, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Just enter the pagename into the search input field and press go; if the page does not exist, you will see a notice at the top: "There is no page titled "xyz". You can create this page." - just press the link and you will be redirected to the edit form for that page. Another way is by creating a link to the page on some other page by using Pagetitle, then you can press the link and get the edit form as well. poke | talk 23:02, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

recent rant

Flat out agreement. I've played this game for a much shorter time and accomplished very little, but I at least enjoy the game....it seems these "hardcore balancers" can't even enjoy a game if they are complaining about every skill. Sure, I have a few problems with skills, but I at least try to use them before declaring them utterly useless......
Well said, Wyn. --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 00:02, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I must read said rant. I 've logged 2,400 plus hours, and still enjoy GW. — Wolf User Great Darkwolf User Image paw.png 00:08, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Rant read and agreed with. There is a decent number of players that wink and grumble before adjusting their play-style tho, but w/e XD Sad thing is, it's a very small number of poeple that are the problem. 40 months and 2,400 hours say the devs do a fine and dandy balancing job, and can do it better than those that claim they can best the current staff. — Wolf User Great Darkwolf User Image paw.png 00:27, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
/agree 110% I might have not played that long of time (I started around mid 2007), but I still enjoy the game just like I did back when the game client showed me how the Charr pulled some bad mojo and thrashed my beautiful Ascalon and almost got lovely Gwen killed. Personally, I believe the staff at ANet is doing a wonderful job, giving us new items, events, heroes... a lot of stuff. Ursanway was nerfed, and I couldn't care less. Why? Because I don't have access to GW:EN, which means I've never used it, and thus the change affects me in no manner. What did I use to do? Used to find the build that suited my play style, or the area I was in. What am I gonna do now? Ditto.

It is sort of... how should I put this... it makes me embarrassed, but it's not a personal embarrassment; it's like when you see somebody stepping out of the bathroom with TP stuck under their shoes. You wanna hide, but hey, it's not you, so why are you ashamed? Yet you are. I feel that when I see comments (Did I say comments? More like flaming) in Izzy's talk page, or Regina's. Anyway, nice rant, and sorry for me doing sorta the same in your userpage. :P talk Large 00:31, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

18 months and 3.500 hours over here. I highly suppose that most problems hard core balancers see in skills are born out of a narrow vie on the things. Like Wounding Strike being so uber-op'ed - there#s more than just GvG. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 00:33, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Guild Suggestion

Hi Wyn! What do you think about starting a member list on the Gems of Destiny wiki page? Something similar to: Guild:Archons Ascendant. Maybe we can even have a team picture! Luke1138 00:46, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

The guild pic is something I've been wanting to do, just can't get enough people on at the same time. As for a member list, it has to be limited to just those willing to be recruiting contacts, as per policy it can't be a full roster, and I haven't wanted to put anyone else in that position. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 03:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Questions

hi wyn i like how u but all yr chars on page nice titles can u tell me how u did it coz am new to guild wiki it been good for my guild to show off there chars do like what u have done great work and how do u delete a guild off guild wiki user nemis troy

Well, my character pages are just subpages using a character table template. I have several templates available for you to use, linked on my userpage. As for the Guild page, if your guild has disbanded, the page gets moved to historical content, as per the guild page policy. Just put a note on the guild talk page that it has been disbanded and it will be dealt with if you aren't up to it yourself. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 17:48, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey Wyn.

Just wondering. Can I create Subpages in the Guild Domain? In a Similar way to the User Domain?
I'm doing the YaRR Alliance Pages. I was wondering. Can I make the [[Guild:The [YaRR] Alliance]] and then do [[Guild:The [YaRR] Alliance/The Wolf Pirates]] for example? At least something with a similar idea? Or is that not allowed?
ty.
-- smashman User Smashman2004 Sig.png talk 19:57, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

No, each guild has to have it's own page. And we have already been through this with YaRR. You can create a nav bar that will link the guild pages together, but we dont' host Alliance pages. Guild:The Wolf Pirates--Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:04, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Block IP

Hi,

I'm sorry for changing the color of the infobox and alliance nav, I tried to make aa new one to be able to change the color for the page that I was doing but if it's not permitted also, I was wondering why you were able to change it in your page. I hope you can have my IP unblocked again because I want to be able to login from this station again, it's the one I use most of the time.---mamam nikita

The changed alliance nav on my page is in the User namespace, not Guild. The Guild page policy only governs what can be done on guild pages. You can put pretty much anything on your USER page, as long as you create it in userspace. First of all, the ones you were creating are in Main template space, secondly, you are putting them on your guild page. By the way, the block was only to get your attention.--Wyn's Talk page Wyn 08:48, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Been playin gw for almost 18months and finally decided to make my own page here on wiki. I was just wondering if it was ok to borrow source codes from other users to put my page together (don't want to get myself in trouble)

Red Qyeen 00:17, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Generaly yeah. It's also a good rule of thumb to ask who originaly created the page, as most user's are using lay-outs made by toher users. — Wolf User Great Darkwolf User Image paw.png 00:20, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
It's also common wiki etiquette to provide a credit back to the user who's code you have used. Many users (me included) have compiled easy to use templates for various pages in our user namespace. Mine are linked to on my userpage. (I might add that my personal page has been modified from the templates linked) --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:23, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

HEY HOW ABOUT SOME HELP HERE

Wyn, Ok, I dont know who you are...other than that you work for ANET. But how about giving some suggesting to people before you go and screw up there user page. I spent a few hours making changes to my user page and since there is very little info on how to make changes for someone like myself on wiki, like adding those User boxes, and neat graphics or uploading images, it makes it a bit hard to do.

And Ok, Fine..I had no freaking idea that things could not be deleted off of a User page. Nor did I know that a person could create an Archive folder. None of which, when I did searches gave me instructions on how to do.

Now when I look at my user page, which used to have information about me and after I had made some edits that I thought were acceptable, all of those edits have now been removed.. by YOU. Most all the edits I did were about me personally, the only edit I had that was not directly related to me, was an internal link to my guilds home page.

Also, I am having to write all this on your user page, since you have not provided an email to directly contact you. So, explain something to me please, how is a person who is new to wiki, new to computer code and all the other stuff that goes into creating these pages supposed to do it with no information to glean it from??

If you really want to help me with my user page do this:

 1. Add back the stuff I deleted, which apparently I should forever be sorry about doing...
 2. Put back all the edits I made on 11/15/08, unless they are a problem in which case I would like an explaination if you please.
 3. Give me some ideas about how to upload photo's of all my GW characters, so I can put it by their names. If uploading something like that is possible.
 4. Provide me with an email address of yours that I can use in case I have other questions and wont have to do something that is agains ANET policy.

Thank you, Guardians Of The Heartland 20:15, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

First of all, I don't work for Anet, secondly, please take a breath and calm down. Nothing on the wiki can't be easily fixed. I had no intention of breaking your stuff, I simply was trying to put it where it belonged for you. I'm more than happy to help you build your page, it's not a problem. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:20, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Third, there's a difference between your user page and your user talk page. One of your's, one is the community's. That's why you can't remove comments from your talk b/c it's the community's. --JonTheMon 20:21, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
I have restored the edits I mistakenly removed when I moved your personal information from your talk page to your User page. There are links on your talk page to all the help resources available that should answer your questions regarding uploading images, however you can feel free to leave me a message here anytime you are having difficulties, or have questions you can't otherwise find the answers to. This is a much more efficient way to contact me than by email, as I'm on the wiki all the time, and I only check my email once a day or so. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:53, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Prophecies Mission Progression template

Not a bad chart for tracking 'one' character. However, have you seen my charts Wyn? User:Elric_Coy/tables The Nightfall one has the most filled out. Elric Coy 15:54, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, and I created my own for that, we have had this discussion before. I'm simply doing a split on my individual character templates for those people that do not have all 4 campaigns. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 15:58, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Also, what about those people that don't have all 10 professions, or have multiples of various professions? Then the combined tables are really much too bulky, or ineffective. While having an overview page of all characters progress on one page can be useful, I find having the individual pages to actually be much more functional. You are free to disagree with me but please stop pressing the point of your tables. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 16:04, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
1. My apologies. I didn't mean to press my tables upon you. I was just mentioning an option for people that are keeping track of more than one character. I wasn't sure if you had seen my NF table since I had updated it with actual data. I was mistaken when I thought you might like to see it's readability.
2. BTW... its not exactly in template form so anyone else using it would have to know how to edit it to suit their needs. ie if they had less than ten characters or more than one of the same profession they would have to change it.
3. Besides that the icons in the column headings for each character are actual links to my characters so anyone that did a copy and paste would just be moving my links to my characters.
4. I wouldn't even be mentioning this to you if people would stop bringing up your progress chart as if mine was useless. I looked up yours and just wanted to say a word or two about it. As I said in my original statement. I like your chart and it is good for one character. I apologize if you think my comments were deragotory in any way.
5. My tables are split up by campaign so I am confused about your statement regarding the fact that you are doing a split for those ppl that don't have all 4 campaigns. The only real difference between our tables is style and number of characters you can track.
6. And now that I have something on your table's talk page ppl can stop pushing yours on me. Elric Coy 22:06, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
My original mission progression template for one character encompasses all campaigns. I have been approached to make a way for it to be used by people who don't have all campaigns, which is what I was doing. And I'm sorry if I sounded a bit crass, it's been a stressful day. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:12, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
I see that. Apparently Napalm Flame is confusing fact with opinion. Even if 999 of 1,000 people agree with an opinion it is still an opinion. For ex. "The sun rotates around the earth" was an opinion that the entire population agreed with until one person who didn't agree proved that the opposite was true. With any luck that thought can bring you comfort. Elric Coy 22:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Let's just leave that where it is. Your tables are fine for their purpose Eric, I'm sorry if mine have been shoved down your throat, they've become fairly popular, but are by no means the be-all end-all of mission progression templates. I think if you could turn yours into actual templates, and make it possible for people to add/subract professions it could become just as popular. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:27, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Not a poluparity contest for me. IDC if ppl use my template over yours. Its always a matter of personal taste. I just wanted to mention to you that my table was done and the only changes I plan on making are data updates. Perhaps you are correct... Maybe I should make an attempt at making it a template. IDK, maybe some other time. Unfortunately right now I am on my Wii so large copy and paste functions are not available to me atm. Elric Coy 22:34, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

How the fuck

Is that vandalism when it's a CORRECT, PERFECTLY VALID COMMENT. Look at any top100 warrior, they run stonefists. It's common fucking sense. Napalm Flame 19:25, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

It's personal opinion, and has been reverted. Articles are to stay objective, and the changes he's making make them subjective. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 19:27, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Problem is, we know it is truth. Press 'b' (/b/ amirite) sometimes, you'll understand. Or, even better, actually learn to PvP to a high level. You'll understand that every warrior that knows how to gws will run stonefist. Napalm Flame 20:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
I dont know what page is but Wyn, please protect the page. If its under too much edits protect the page for a at least a week and let this guy vent somewhere else.--ShadowFog 20:37, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Napalm, the simple fact is that a revert war is bad on the wiki, it was obvious that there was some dispute regarding the information that was being posted. That's when it becomes a matter for discussion, not just one or even half a dozen's people's opinion of what IS, but the community at large and find a way to put it on the page that most people can agree with. Sweeping definitive statements like all warriors in PvP use this insignia rarely work, as there will always be someone out there that doesn't and will disagree with it. Whether at your level of play or someone else's the article needs to reflect an objective (neutral) veiwpoint. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:51, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Also, making insulting comments to me regarding my skill playing the game is a no brainer, as everyone that knows me knows I don't pvp for any reason, ever, simply because I don't play this game to take the kind of abuse that pvp players feel is their right to dish out to anyone they feel is less than they are. You just reinforce the rightness of my decision with every insult and profanity that you hurl against me here. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:54, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Tell you what, since you don't PvP, ask Chiizu for professional advice on this discussion. You can find him on QQ forums. IF he gets back to you, he would just agree with Auron and I. This wiki is an official game wiki. We need to keep GOOD advice on it, and bad advice OFF it. If you put the good players in charge of making the wiki full of DECENT advice, like Auron and I, (despite being very bad in comparison to Chiizu, Awowa, Dhaina etc.) then the average quality of players in GW will improve. Napalm Flame 20:56, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Heres a mistake your logic mate. Most pvp warriors != good. therefore, its possible that most pvp warriors dont use stonefist. Furthermore, its a retardly stupid thing to flame someone about. At least I piss people off with taste...--Ryudo 20:59, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Not worth my time, the simple fact is on the stonefist insignia page to say that ALL warriors in pvp use this, is not correct, nor is it objective, the wording as it is now is fine. If you wish to give advice on how to be a better PvP warrior, then it should go in a guide to playing a warrior in pvp. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 21:02, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
A good warrior is worth over 9000 bad warriors, therefore the maximum 1000 good warriors are equal to at least 9 million bad ones, and in case you didn't notice, less than 9 million people play gws. I didn't say 'ALL', I said 'ALMOST all', which is correct. Napalm Flame 21:02, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

{rs} A conversation rate backed by nothing more than one (or should I say two for auron?) is also nothing more than an opinion, and is not objective. tl;dr: No.--Ryudo 21:04, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

If it's backed by Chiizu, then it's more than opinion, it's what the top warrior in the game does. tl;dr: You're wrong. Napalm Flame 21:05, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Please don't make this a balancing/play style/opinion discussion now; that doesn't change the fact that there is a policy to avoid revert wars. This behaviour keeps me think if I really should just forget about it (as it seems resolved now) or if I actually should enforce the policy just to show you, that you cannot simply do what you want just because you think right (not even if it would be true) poke | talk 21:06, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

there's 4 shield attributes so dropping 3 shields without one for the strength attribute would be pretty lame, besides it's not the first time they've given unique items the same name. --Cancer Angel y so srs? 00:17, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Are the stats the same, with just the attribute different? If so, take Exalted Aegis (unique) as an example. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 00:18, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm just saying that it WAS listed as Command for MONTHS and GWiki doesn't have the Strength one listed either. Guru seems to be broken atm, so I can't even search for the strength one there, and the IP's edit was small enough that most everyone would have just AGF'd it and not really questioned it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:20, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Just an addendum to my previous comment - the different attributes should be listed on the same page, as the Exalted Aegis has done: the different attributes in the infobox, with "(Strength or Command)" in the stats. I don't think a new page is needed; we don't do it with other greens like the Forgotten or Droknar weapons. --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 00:23, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm still not sure all 4 exist. Both the instances you have listed, the Exalted and Droknar's are end game greens. I have not seen a single boss drop two greens with the same name. If he were going to do that wouldn't it have made more sense for them all to have the same name instead of a para attribute and a warrior attribute sharing one name and the other two having different names? --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:30, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm gonna say it's probably vandalism. If there truly is a strength version, it would be the first time I've seen a boss drop a green for another profession. The other two shields dropped by vraxx are paragon, same stats just different attrib lines, so I'd say it is probably supposed to be command only.--Pyron Sy 00:35, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Vraxx is P/W he drops command/motivation/tactics. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:36, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

My ban

You said you wanted me to think long and hard about what I did during my ban, except I thought long and hard about what I did while I was doing it. You banned me for asking someone "Who actually fixes things instead of making up excuses?" Are we not allowed to ask arenanet why they're not fixing a game we paid for? ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 06:40, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

You know exactly why I banned you. It has nothing to do with you asking a question. It has everything to do with the personal attacks you included with that question. We've had the discussion before regarding name calling, and implied insults. Calling Kim lazy, and implying she and her team had the IQ of a chair IS a personal attack. Just as ranting that Izzy sucks at his job and should resign so ArenaNet can hire a real balancer/programer is a personal attack. Your tactics do not reap any results other than to drive the people who do have the power to change things away from this wiki and the input of the player base, and they just aren't acceptable. I do understand your frustration, but I totally disagree with your methods of communicating it. You yell and scream (making your text 5x bigger than normal), and what has it gotten you other than multiple bans and the loss of any respect you may have hoped for from the development team. Personally, I have no idea whether you have good balancing ideas, it's a foreign language to me as I don't pvp, but I do know that I would never even bother to read anything you had to say if you treated me the way you treat the development team, and for the most part I don't unless someone else comments to me about it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 06:50, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't matter how good your product is if your sales pitch is not up to par. — Wolf User Great Darkwolf User Image paw.png 23:24, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Ok, but based on the fact that kim realizes a skill is not working but refuses to report it when it's her job to do exactly that...that's the definition of laziness. I stated a factual event. Sorry I brought facts onto a wiki. What the fuck was I thinking?
Also, you saying "Shard's knowledge of programming for a game of this magnitude is minimal at best," by your standards, is a personal attack. Maybe I should list you on the admin noticeboard. The only difference between what I said about anet and what you said about me is that the thing I said was true. Can you answer even one question without being a hypocrite?
I'll tell you when I yell and scream. Two and a half years of being nice and friendly got absolutely nothing done, and ho! only a month of yelling and ONE balance suggestion gets pushed through. Some more yelling, ONOES another one gets put through. Anet listens when people yell...or at least izzy does. Unfortunately, he's overworked and doesn't play GW1 so now it really doesn't matter what I do, which is why I don't post on his page anymore. Who still has the power to fix GW1? Kim. OOPS, she's LAZY. Maybe I rely too much on reverse psychology. I always assume people are smart...bad habit IMO. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 01:50, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
There is a difference between a personal attack and being wrong. — Wolf User Great Darkwolf User Image paw.png 01:56, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
If you feel what I posted is an attack, you are more than welcome to post it on the noticeboard for review. But once again you are attacking Kim with your comments, that you claim are justified because in your opinion they are fact, they aren't, and they are an attack, and quite simply unacceptable. I have turned this over to another admin for review so you don't see it as me being 'out to get' you. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 02:15, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
No, I was not attacking Kim with my comments, I was attacking her actions then linking it to her job. A job is not a person. An action is not a person. If saying "kim's bad at her job" is a personal attack, maybe I'll just draw arrows for people to add everything up themselves instead. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 04:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Tell me just how the statement "OOPS, she's LAZY." from two statements above is not attacking Kim? That's not talking about something Kim did... it's not in anyway linked to her job.... it's says... She (Kim) is lazy. That is talking about her person it's plain English, and you wrote it, I don't see how on earth you can say that and then turn around and say you aren't attacking her and expect ANYONE to believe you. And you have the nerve to call ME a hypocrite. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 04:55, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Change the name of the policy section

I made the question because from what I understand from him is that he's mad about being banned and in disagreement about the name of the policy because of the...well... of the ban, either way, he should've just asked politely, no one gets hurt because of a question unless the said question is made to offend. I made the question at least so he can see the answer. With a lot of experience you sysops had it just was "an easy catch to the pitcher". So... your recommendation is when stuff like these happens it's just usually a way to provoke drama and should not be taking seriously and be left to the sysops? Right?--ShadowFog 23:55, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Not necessarily, and if there is anyone in the community that seriously feels the policy/policy name needs to change, they are welcome to submit a proposal/draft to that effect (there is a procedure that is outlined on Guild Wars Wiki:Policy). Shard's post happened within minutes of his ban getting lifted, and I really do believe he was simply venting, not trying to actually propose that the policy be changed. I, of course may be mistaken. I just think he is trying to disrupt the way the wiki works, by trying to polarize users against the admins and against ArenaNet, and the amount of drama he's already created pretty much proves out this theory. He's a frustrated, unhappy customer who wants everyone else to be as unhappy with the actions of ArenaNet as he is and to support his claims and ideas. As I told him above, I have no idea personally whether his balance ideas are good, I don't pvp, but I do know that personal attacks are a violation of wiki policy. He admitted his rant at Kim was bad, or he wouldn't have apologized, however, he still believes that being a bully is going to get him what he wants, maybe it has worked for him often enough in the past, but it simply won't work here. As for changing the name of the policy, if you have an honest opinion to voice regarding his proposal, feel free, I just don't believe it was his intent to be serious. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 00:26, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't think the policy needs a change, the sysops just need to learn what it means. Right now, they don't. Apparently proven facts about people's actions which just happen to show them in a negative way are considered personal attacks, despite the irony of the policy's name. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 04:22, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Ok Shard. Have it your way, it's totally obvious that I could ban you for a year and you wouldn't believe you had done anything wrong. I'm done, I will leave it up to the rest of the admins to deal with it. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 04:58, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions Pages

I'm not entirely sure how deep I'm getting myself in here, but I'm going to go for it. So tell me, from your point of view (and others are free to share as well) what is everything that's wrong with the current suggestions pages, how you would like to see them, and how you think they could be improved if we must stick to the wiki. Feel free to construct as many walls of text as you want/can, heck write me a book if that's what it takes to cover everything. You have my ear. — Wolf User Great Darkwolf User Image paw.png 00:58, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

I'll like to see them fixed in whatever way thats easy for the community to accept. The current problem is the registered user space and linking to userspaces. No one else has the right to change the main structure of a user's userspace without the user's consent (I believe). My current opinion is "Make them Guild Wars 2 layout". Poke said that while making a bot to keep tidy the suggestion is plausible sysops also can do it without much time (give or take 5mins). I think we should just put it to it's original layout till something can be decided and more user (including Mr and Mrs. IP) friendly. -- WoBUser Wings of Blood sig icon.png 03:46, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Somewhat related to this: WoB mentioned how the suggestion's talk page feels like a war to him. I know tone is hard to convey through the internet, and very often people have believed I was speaking in a more agressive tone than I meant. If you felt I was being agressive or bearing some hostility towards you, Wyn, I apologize, as that was not my intention. I know you are acting with the wiki's best interests in mind, and that your objections were against what you saw as a matter of principles, more than as a matter of wiki lawyering. Erasculio 12:04, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
I also apologize as well, I also know you are trying to make it better, I just had serious issues with placing restrictions on who could submit suggestions, as well as the complete bypassing of wiki procedure that has gone on. I know that the wiki is a horrid format for suggestions, and I hope ArenaNet takes steps to adopt something different, but in the meantime we need to maintain the spirit of community contribution that this wiki is based on. I have the GW2 suggestion format pretty much set up for the GW suggestions, all but the categories. I just want to give a few more of the people who have been involved in this a chance to agree/disagree before it gets put into place. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 12:11, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Is there any reccomendation on how I can shorten it if it is violating this policy? --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 21:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't technically violate policy, it's 234 characters long, you are allowed 250, but there are ways to shorten it, renaming and replacing your sig image would be one really quick way, also using the hex code for your font color would also shorten it, as well as using wikicode to bold rather than <b></b> tags and bold both words at once <font color="#D2691E">Wandering</font> <font color="#D2691E">Traveler</font> That is 192 characters, so it has saved 42 characters. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 22:09, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
Alright, thats probably the best way then. It just seemed horrendus to use two whole lines of edit space just for a signature. Thanks for the code :). --User Wandering Traveler Oie User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 22:11, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

2 things

1. May I join your Gems of Destiny guild? I do PVE-only (Except for Zaishen Elite for money), enjoy helping others, have all games. 2. I agree on your rant about balance. Arenanet works very hard, and even though I don't agree with all balances, they try to do a great job. -Leave me a message. Greetz, --'DAVA 09:02, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Sure, just message me in game :D --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 09:22, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

The 80ies

*sniff* Why did that delete my comments? Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 03:57, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Their guild page already existed in guild space, so the page they created in mainspace was deleted, along with it's associated talk page. Nothing personal Noctarch :D --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 03:58, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
*sighs* I am fine again, by the way (and very off-topic which is typical for me), what do you say about the conspiracy that the kind of players that make GW1 to seem dead will move on to GW2 as soon as as it releases? Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 04:01, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, since I don't know what kind of players you mean I really can't comment. :D --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 04:08, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
By the way, how could it be that the CoF run made you so busy that you did not even bother to say good bye? =/ Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 13:13, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
The CoF run failed, you said you were going to bed leaving your toon to death level in pre, and I did not want to get guilted into hard mode dungeons with some of my guildies at 5 am, so I left to find something else to do. And now I'm going to get some sleep. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 13:21, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

balance

...balance. I don't get it.
Guild Wars was marketed as being based around skilled gameplay. It attracted competitive strategy gamers. Now, there is no strategic element (or very little of it). That's why it's a problem for pvp players - they feel like they've been ripped off. Imagine if they removed all the prophecies areas from the game, how would you feel not being able to play your favorite part of the game (or NF or Factions if those are your favorite)?
BTW I wasn't causing a ruckus over balance - I was angry that arenanet was lying to its players...assuming you were talking about me of course ;) ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 07:33, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
If you weren't causing a ruckus over balance, then I guess i wasn't talking to you was I? --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 07:35, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Obviously not ;) ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 07:42, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
They did remove my favorite part of the game when they nerfed DOA, and then introduced Ursan Blessing, and while I was unhappy about it, and expressed my unhappiness over it, I managed to do it without attacking anyone or violating any policies on the wiki. I'm really not sure what you are trying to say Shard, but if it's suppose to be more justification of the 'rightness' of your words and behavior, it's failing miserably. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 08:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
That's one case, and I feel the same way about updates I don't like. However, anet is doing updates I don't like every month or more frequently, and no matter how much everyone tells them they don't like them, they keep pushing out those updates. How would you feel if next week they removed hard mode, then next week they removed elite missions, then next week removed...idk whatever else in pve is still fun? That's what the pvp balance has been like since nightfall, a long continuous series of the game getting worse. They ditched pvp for pve, because that's were all their players were. I guess our perspectives are from opposite sides of the game. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 08:12, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
If it got to that point for me, I would buy a different game, or find something else to do with my time. I play to have fun, if it's not fun anymore, then it's time to find something that is. Ranting and raving and verbally attacking the people I feel have made it not fun anymore only raises my blood pressure, taking away that much more of my fun time, while doing absolutely nothing to change the amount of fun the game is. If you truly hate what they have done Shard, move on. It's a game, there are about a gazillion of them out there to try. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 08:27, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Will I get my US $120 back? ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 08:46, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
How many play hours have you gotten out of that $120? I have spent over $300, and would not expect to get a penny back because I have gotten over 12,000 play hours out of the game. That works out to 2.5 cents an hour for something that I have truly enjoyed. Even if you only have 1000 play hours that you really enjoyed, it's still only 12 cents an hour. Tell me one other entertainment option you have that is that cheap, and then tell my how ripped off you feel. Going to a movie costs on average $8 (not including pop, popcorn etc.) and lasts for 2 hrs. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 08:51, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
And btw.. it's far from everyone telling them they don't like the updates. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 09:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Why would you get your money back? That's not how anything else works.. You pay to go to the movies, but you don't get money back if the end of the movie sucks. It's your personal opinion. Don't tell me you've never spent money on a bad game? Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not. :) - anja talk 09:26, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
The other point against your argument Shard, is that the marketing plan was established more than 3 years ago. What other game company can you name that has maintained a top competitive level game for 3 years, especially after announcing the sequel? While I am not immersed in the competitive tournament play of pvp style games because I do not enjoy them, I don't know of any video game that has done so. So Anet's marketing plan changed. Due to their unique business model of a no subscription game, they had to find a way to continue to attract new players, thus new features. Imagine what it would be like had they stuck to their original intention of releasing a new campaign every 6-8 months? New skills, new professions, new features - all of which would have further unbalanced the original game model. They recognized the ever growing problems this would cause and chose instead to close off Guild Wars, and develop Guild Wars 2. So now, with new players joining the ranks at an ever slowing pace, meaning less capital coming in, they have put the majority of their manpower resources into developing what we all hope will be another top level competitive game, while still maintaining the original as much as their resources allow. I think that's pretty cool actually. I've played other games that, when the company has decided to move on to their next project, the old one was quite simply left to rot, not only no game updates, but no server maintenance, attention to hacks and cheats falling off, making those game all but unplayable for a lot of people. On top of everything else, we are in the throws of a global economic disaster, where people are seeing their life savings just disappear, they are worried about keeping a roof over their heads, and food on the table, not buying a 3 yr old video game. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 10:34, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
I agree a bit with Shard, though. Mostly because inaction would have been better than action, PvP wise. In other words, not releasing Nightfall and Factions would have been better for the PvP game than releasing them; not making some of the latest PvP updates would have been better than using Arena Net's limited resources to implement them; not updating some skills would have been better than changing them so they are even more imbalanced than they were before, and so on. While we are told that they have very few resources left (and that the world as a whole has less resources than it had before), it sometimes feels like Arena Net is using resources on all the wrong things, PvP wise, instead of improving the game or (worst comes to worst) not doing anything to make it worse. Erasculio 12:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
"What other game company can you name that has maintained a top competitive level game for 3 years, especially after announcing the sequel?" Blizzard. Their game is more balanced than Guild Wars and hasn't been touched in five years. It is still the competitive medium of choice for most professional gamers.
Each unit has up to 3 or 4 distinct "spells" or "skills" on top of their generally unique playstyle and inherent abilities - a player has literally thousands of ways to play a match. In Guild Wars, each team has 64 skill slots, only about 120 viable skills, and it still isn't balanced. :/ Starcraft also allows modding, so players have created maps and objectives over the years. In Guild Wars, you're stuck with the same ones that have been in from the beginning. 16 gvg maps with little variation, 9 tombs maps (most of which you skip past due to lack of opponents), 13 arena maps. Same objectives every time, some of which are so poorly designed that breaking the game is a simple task (nuking on cap points, for example). Blizzard has a better competitive game and a better MMO game... I wonder how amazing a game they could make if they tried to hit the players in the Guild Wars niche, right between the two extremes? -Auron 13:02, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
I played SC(BW) and can state that in PvP there, you merely have two playstyles. It may be balanced but you cannot say that it grants diversity. Ɲoɕʈɋɽɕɧ 13:10, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Of course you are all entitled to your opinions, I would never say otherwise. One point though Erasculio, you say that not releasing Factions and Nightfall would have been better for the PvP game, which is probably true from a pure pvp standpoint, however, that was NEVER part of ArenaNet's plan. Their beginning concept and marketing plan was to release a new campaign every 6 months with new skills and professions. So it should have been obvious to everyone from the very beginning that there would be periodic massive changes to the way the game (both pve, and pvp) would be played. To come back now and say... "I feel ripped off because they changed the game and they either need to fix it (and if they don't fix it it's because they are lazy and incompetent), or give me my money back" is just nonsensical.
My only experience with Blizzard was with Diablo II and their lack of protection of their servers and the massive duping and hacking that went on fairly quickly made it a game I would not play on anything but a closed network with my friends. Starcraft never held any interest for me at all, so I couldn't comment. Though I think allowing player modding can not do anything positive for a game since players who choose NOT to use those mods are at a disadvantage, but that's simply my opinion.
I know we will never see eye to eye on any of this, and I'm not even going to think it might happen, but at some point Shard and his like have to realize that heaping abuse on the creators of the game is not going to get them to make any changes other than the ones they would make without it, and all that is really happening is a widening of the division in our community. Creating disruptions on the wiki, whether by trying to turn players against the developers, trolling other players ideas, trolling their talk pages, or harassing those of us who do care about the way this wiki is run and do our honest best to keep it focused on it's purpose, is not a productive use of time and energy that could be better spent doing just about anything else. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 13:11, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Please, let the players play and the developers develope. I've been watching the wiki for quite some time now, and seem more bloody and heated wars than between Isreal and Palestine over this thing called "balance", and all of it getting no where. Shard, your time will come, and being abusive about presenting your thoughts, observations, opinions and ideals will only hurt. I trust Anet to make decisions based not only what's best for the game, but what's best for them as a company, as I would love to have them stick around and continue to make awesome games. To paraphrase what another user said, Anet has all the info, we don't. What my seem stupid and like I bad idea to us, may be the best decision in the long run. Let's all put down our torches and pitch forks, as Abusing Anet for changes and Fighting back against those that do is not getting us anywhere. It's only serving to throw the wiki into disfunction, cause an excessive amount of drama, and as Wyn said, widen the gap between the developers and us players. — Jon 19:24, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I agree with Jon to the fullest extent, basically yelling at developers (who prob don't even care and think you're making a pointless argument either because you don't know or it's more complicated then you would think.) will get you absolutely no where. Jon, you're the first person to actually state that in such a fashion, for that I put you on my 'respected list of thousands' =D -- WoBUser Wings of Blood sig icon.png 21:19, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

@Anja, Guild Wars is not a bad game. I bought a good game, and now it's unplayable. It's a defective product. If I buy a ticket for a movie and see a different movie, I ask for a refund and I get it.
And wyn, I know you still enjoy the game, but that's because GW's marketing shifted from attracting pvp oriented players to attracting pve oriented players - just because there are more of them. GW was a pvp game when it came out, and now it's fairly obvious that it's not the opposite. PvP has just been neglected for lack of a better word. I actually wouldnt mind if anet released closed source private servers (or GWLP becomes more complete), so people who have the first clue about balancing a game can bring this dead game back up from its deep hole. I would stop ranting altogether, I just want my freaking game back. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 21:51, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Shard, I understand your frustrations, wants, and concerns. All are understandable and honorable, but as friend of mine once said "There is an end to all means." The end to your means I would not wish on even my most bitter of enemies. I, myself, don't mind much if you rant and rave until your lungs fall out, (and I'm sure most other users don't mind all that much either, some even seem content to join you) as long as your not obstructing the normal flow of things, which you don't for the most part. Your good about keeping it to the respective pages and topics. You have a good, if not valuable insight and opinion, but it pains me to see it ruined by the abusive and offensive tones and words that so often color your speach. I see no problem with what you have to say, only the methods you have choosen to try and convey your thoughts, opinions and observations. I'm sure everyone would appreciate it, and you a lot more if you found a much kinder and less offensive means for what you have to say. I hope I'm not asking too much.
Hang in there, Things always get worse before they get better. To quote a good Underoath song: "At the end of the road, you'll find what you've been longing for."Jon 22:33, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
I read your rants Wyn, and I totally agree with you. I feel exactly the same way. I felt like Shard once, but then the Elite Skill update came, and I saw that the Anet staff was really trying to improve the game. I accepted that there are things I simply disagree with, but I won't ever again attack them on their efforts. To be honest, I have seen the game improving ever since. Maybe PvP is still bad, I don't know, but what I do know, is that the narrow-minded view of a lot of individuals is part of the reason why it's still that bad. And there is one comment here I disagree with for 125%: Guild Wars was not meant as a PvP game from the start. If it were, then you wouldn't have had to play through most of the game just to reach the PvP arena's. And if it were, then you wouldn't have had to search that hard for decent equipment. It was a PvX game back then, and it still is. No looking down on either side, they both rock. 145.94.74.23 18:14, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I have a general statement I would like to make. We are all entitled to our opinions, and I'm not going to care much if yours differ from mine (it's actualy is somewhat preferable, as it makes for good conversation) as long as we are polite about presenting them, don't force them on others, are not destructive in their presentation and content, and do not use them as an attack on others, but those last 2 fall under my first. As long as we can stay calm, collected, and keep the torches and pitch forks put away, and respect other people's opinions (and other people in general), I think we can get far. — Jon 22:17, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
