I did something wrong? :P
I'm making my PvX userpage with character templates and such, and it's not working proplerly.....i'm thinking that I can't take a template for GWW and take it to PvXwiki. I don't have a user for GWW so heres my PvX page. [Here see] It's the Lloyd Erving link I tried making.
- yup, you can't use the templates from here over there. if it was a small template like the MiniBuild one, i'd port it over, but the character template is one of my biggest templates. the main problem is it consists of several other templates. the title bars, for example, are seperate templates, which themselves use the Template:Progress bar, so to make that character template i'd have to port over a total of ~10 templates. i'm not going to do that. but if you want me to, i could make a similar version over there. it wouldn't contain the title bars and instead center more on builds. would that be good for you? - Y0_ich_halt 12:40, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, yea that sounds good. I guess I could create a GWW profile and put character progress there and use the PvX one for builds. :) Thanks. :D Sam6555
Template Tweeking?
Is there any way you could edit your User:Y0 ich halt/Templates/MiniBuild to have an ability to edit the main border color, main background color + tint, and box color + tint? I tried looking at the actual template code myself and add this in, but Im far from fluent with wiki code and didnt get anywhere. I was thinking of you added an editable variable, like you did with the "primary|x", but make it where its edited from the "fill in the blank" stage of the template, that would allow you to edit the template's colors. Maybe making it look something similar to this:
That will let you do something to this effect:
I was thinking if you put the border under the style part, that would let you edit the variable to include the style and color. You could place the Main bg and secong bg variables where they are in the code. That would allow for any color type to be introduced. That way if you wanted a particular color, to match a character page, you could place that into the "fill in the blanks" part and not have to delve into the full blown template's code. I would make a template like I described on my own, but I dont know how to place such a editable variable into a template and it actually work. Hopefully such a thing is easily done, but if not, do you think it would work? Neithan Diniem 22:51, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
- that's possible, but there's one big problem: you wouldn't be able to use color codes like #acf, only color words like red would work. that's because the variables (i'd call them lbg and dbg) need to be inside parser functions in order to still adjust the background to professions automatically if no other value is given, and the # doesn't work then. it will display the usual "1." (like in a list) and break the whole template. - Y0_ich_halt 14:32, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Would there be a way to make a "color template" that is basically a #code color thats placed as the # code on a page, then a bracketed link is placed that access that page. Sort of like:

- <redirects to "color 1 page">
- #777777
- Im really not sure if thats the way it would work, but basically its like turning the # code color itself into a template that uses the bracketed "" link to access it. Would that work perchance? And if you didnt make it automatically change to the profession's color (Probably fill that part of the template with the x thing, but allow it to be edited with the other link, like the bracketed W-color, or #code) would that fix it to where you dodnt need a particular word for a color? Neithan Diniem 18:24, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hey! got my theory to work, check my sandbox's code at the bottom, that'll show you what I mean. Would that work in a template? Neithan Diniem 18:30, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- actually, you're kinda right. it's strange that gww has templates for profession colors, but no walkaround for situations like this. btw, the one in your sandbox is broken. i created Template:Csharp as a walkaround, i'll try that one. - Y0_ich_halt 19:43, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- ok, it works. but now color words like "red" won't work :P and i don't know any way to make both work like this. - Y0_ich_halt 19:55, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe you can have both template types typed up here, that way people can choose which they prefer. Also, the one in my sandbox works for me. I have it set up like this:
- The color 1 page is simply a color code, nothing special. It looks like its working in my sandbox to me. Did you mean that the method I used wouldent work in the template? Anyways, if it does work, that would mean that both code colors and pre-made templated colors work, right? If a person wanted a specific color, they would only have to make a user-based template for themselves for it to work. That wouldent be too hard to do, really. Neithan Diniem 20:49, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- you're not simulating the problem case there. the parser functions don't have closing brackets, so they're not really working. your template works anyway, though (see below), as you do exactly the same as on Template:Csharp: you deactivate wikicode, except that you are only covering your color, while Csharp covers any code you want. i surely won't make another template just so people can use color words, that would be overkill. and making such a template themselves would actually be a problem for most people. - Y0_ich_halt 12:33, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

- grrr, editing the fckn page itself is a problem already with wikia. the code problem is easy, though o.O look at the result if you give Range a value (for example 40):
colspan=3| 40 meters
. and the template then shows exactly that: a three columns wide cell with the content "40 meters". there's no head cell saying "Range", so of course it doesn't show. - Y0_ich_halt 12:40, 22 December 2008 (UTC)- Lol sorry about that. x: I'm such a noob xD -- Halogod35 17:00, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

- <br> is an opening tag, which you logically don't close later. of course, the parser will close the tag automatically, but it's better style to do that yourself by adding the in-tag-closing /> it works with all tags, so you could also make a <div style="height:50px; width:100%;" /> if you only want to add a 50px high space.- Y0_ich_halt 11:59, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
<br />
is part of the XHTML standard and is equivalent to<br>
which is plain HTML. XHTML is a joint of XML and HTML bringing the elements (or most of them) from HTML into a XML-compatible structure (at least that is what is wanted, most website that call themselves XHTML valid are not XML compatible though) which is a lot stricter than normal HTML. Because XML represents a tree-like structure, one rule for example is that all tags have to be closed; this already applies to most HTML tags, however there are some that are single tags in HTML (for example<br>
and<hr>
). So in X(HT)ML you have to close them which would result in<br></br>
(which is valid btw.) but there is also a rule that empty tags, that do not have any child nodes or content (note: no whitespace either!) can be written like this:<br />
to mark it as an empty tag that is correctly closed. There are other rules that make XHTML stricter than HTML however in the other direction you can nearly parse every XHTML content as HTML content (except some minor differences), so it is always better to stick to XHTML syntax if you can. poke | talk 18:10, 6 January 2009 (UTC)- Ah, btw. on the wiki
<br>
in wikicode is automatically replaced by<br />
before it is displayed, so it really doesn't matter here :) poke | talk 18:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)- So therefore I could just use br instead? Lol in your face yo. -- Halogod35 18:19, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- You can use whatever you like, however using
<br />
is probably the better way to get used to it :) poke | talk 19:26, 6 January 2009 (UTC)- i guess i was misinformed then (probably because i never really cared about the differences between xml, html and xhtml >.>). :P but i'd suppose if <br> is replaced before displaying, that takes performance again, doesn't it? - Y0_ich_halt 20:33, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

- my name (which seems to be displayed incorrectly in most browsers; the ich_halt is supposed to be smaller than the rest) has had some discussions already. browse through the archives and you should find them sometime. anyway, the closest translation is probably "well... me." and as of now, i won't be back for gw2. but we'll see whether that changes when it's out ;) - Y0_ich_halt 08:25, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

- Your all well past my German :P Happy Birthday again man. Sounds like you can do a lot more at 18 in Germany than the US. Although, some of it comes earlier here, driving atr 16, drinking comes later, at 21, and a lot else comes one year later here in Nebraska. The legal adult age being 19 here :P Anyway, happy 18th, and live it up man! — Jon Lupen 00:30, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

- I have absolutely no idea what you Germans are talking about but Happy Birthday! and also, lolwut? Drinking @ 21 in the USA? @ 18 in Germany? I'm glad I live in Holland. I've been enjoying legal beer since I was 16. :P — Why 02:34, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yup, try this on for size, driving @ 16 in the USA, driving @ 18 in Germany. I'm pretty sure it's 16 for smoking in Germany too, which it's 18 in the US. Different required ages for different things are different in different countries. — Jon Lupen 03:02, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

- thanks a lot guys! as to smoking and beer, i'm not even sure whether it's still @16 here in germany as there've been debates, but the real drinks (anything above 10% or something like that) are definetely only legal @18. i don't like smoking and beer anyway, so this birthday is mostly getting a real driver's license, buying the good stuff myself (absinthe, haa...) and excusing myself for school (i'm already making use of that today, tbh...) - Y0_ich_halt 07:31, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) a friend of mine did exactly the same, afair^^ you better shouldn't let this become a habit, Yo ;) btw, about that smoking thing: i don't like it either, it's some sort of commercially exploited mainstream disease imo, yet one of the kids in my neighborhood is 16 and doing it in public without her parents minding it, therefore i'm quite certain it's legal at this age in germany. i couldn't think of myself having been ready to drive with sixteen, though :P —ZerphaThe Improver 13:06, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Awesome puns xD
The puns you have on your page are really funny. =) My three favorite were: "A dog gave birth to puppies near the road and was cited for littering." "I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me." and my top favorite "A sign on the lawn at a drug rehab center said: 'Keep off the Grass.'" xD--Unendingfear 17:39, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Help :o
I need PvE and PvP like, above the character boxes on this thingy. -- Halogod35 15:52, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- ...what exactly is it supposed to be like? o.O - Y0_ich_halt 17:34, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- Like, inside the first box, is PvE (and PvP on the other one) like aboce the Character boxes, I can't seem to get it to stay in the exact middle. -- Halogod35 12:16, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- i still don't get it, what box is "the first box"? what exactly is supposed to stay in the middle? and who made that strange code for the character link boxes? o.O - Y0_ich_halt 12:25, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
