11/30/2001 - Quick changes:
The Wintersday Extraordinaire Award will be modified so that instead of being a winner/HM in the official contest, an awardee must have been a nominee for the People's Award. Those wanting to be a judge must have a recommendation from one of the current judges. Workshop deadline will now be at 12:00PM PST on the day of the last Wintersday Finale event (approximately Jan 1, however this will be finalized when Wintersday is officially announced). Winners will be tentatively announced at the workshop party and in this thread 2 weeks after the deadline.
The Wintersday Workshop is a forum thread at Guild Wars Guru in the sub-forum "Nolani Academy", in which artists can share their progress in various Guild Wars related art-forms and receive constructive criticism along a friendly competition in personal development.
The Wintersday Workshop is a part of the many workshops arranged around the official events in Guild Wars, though it is not an official arrangement from ArenaNet's side, though it has been encouraged by them.
The workshop does not hinder the artist from submitting it's art to the official competition, rather the opposite; the workshop encourage the artist entering the workshop to do so, and a big part of the whole idea with the workshop was to share progress and get feedback on entries before being submitted to the official competitions.
Everyone is free to enter the workshop and there are no limitations to what kind of art is accepted though there might not be a specific category for in in the contest. Entering is done by filling in a "questionnaire" and posting in the thread. More info is found in the original post.

The only rules restricting the art is that it is to be Guild Wars related and on the theme of wintersday. There is also a requirement of a progress-diary of some sort for the judging part of the contest and for other people to review when attempting to give constructive criticism.
The idea of the contest is to reward the individual's personal progress and/or general progress. Thus all levels of skills are welcomed and encouraged to join. The judging is made fair weighing in the artist's progress and level of work. It is a friendly competition with focus on the journey rather than the result (i.e. speeded through entries without any form of progress nor opportunities to be commented are greatly discouraged).
The Workshop normally have a slightly extended deadline than the official competition, for those who want to continue to work on their entries or didn't want to enter the official contest for various reasons.
Please be aware that the nature of the Wintersday Artist Extraordinaire, The Best Progress, and The Smiley Face Awards means that those that are very last minute entries (i.e., day before deadline) will most likely not be considered since these awards are over a period of time during the workshop. However, all other categories do not have that restriction since we don't want to discourage those that discover the workshop close to the end from entering, sharing their pieces, and getting whatever feedback they can get to help them grow as an artist.

This award is given to the artist who meets 3 criteries: was mentioned in the winners or honorable mention section of the official Guild Wars Wintersday contest, participated actively in this thread (both giving and receiving critique and generally being chatty), AND was a candidate for at least 1 of the other Wintersday Workshop awards.

This person kept the thread alive with kind chatter, maybe donated something to the prizes, gave useful critique, submitted tutorials and ideas unselfishly, and generally kept us motivated all the way.

Voting is limited to people who have posted in this thread prior to a week before the workshop deadline to make sure voting is fair (no getting friends to vote for your piece last minute :P ). Despite the 1 week rule, all workshop entries are eligible for this prize. Voting will not be open until the end of the workshop. Votes must be sent via PM to me, and I will keep your vote secret. Please don't vote for your own piece. Since you, the workshop participant, is the judge for this award, the workshop judges (aside from me) are also eligible for this award!
