Guild Island (Discussion)
Building a Guild
The idea here is this would make Guilds more difficult to obtain, and more customizable. Like buying Guild Halls in Guild Wars 1, you would buy an empty island for a sum of money. Depending on the purchased island, there would be wild animals running about. To begin building your hall, a Guild Hall Contractor NPC would be in various towns. After a day or two, a full hall would be built.
The Guild Hall
The Guild Hall would contain a large lobby area, separating into many different directions, halls leading to small rooms - one hundred in all - resembling an apartment complex. Depending on the hall, the rooms would be coordinated differently (i.e. Krytan-style hall). The lobby could be rearranged with statues, guild banners, and various displays by the Guild Leader and Guild Officers. (see also:Guild Commissions)
Each member of the guild may walk into an empty room and claim it as his or her own if they haven't done so already. This room serves as their personal "apartment", complete with a bed, table, and wardrobe. Items may be stored anywhere in the room - in the wardrobe or on the floor (appearing like dropped loot) - with a limit of fifteen items and five armor sets.
If a player leaves or is kicked from a guild, a Xunlai agent would automatically collect the items from their previous room and have them stored in their vault.
Guild Hall Contractor
The Guild Hall Contractor has other options besides the original building of the guild hall. Afterwards, he has the options to add other areas and NPCs - such as pet stables, towers, siege weapons, gates, and docks - for extra fees. Pet stables serve as storage to pets who are not being used in a build by their owners. Docks could store ships - not to be confused with ships - (bought from another NPC) which are used to access GvG battles.
The Contractor can hire other NPCs such as blacksmiths and a material crafter (perhaps an armor smith as well). Like the Guild Lord NPC, the Contractor will stay in the lobby of the Guild Hall until all extra NPCs and structures are purchased.
Guild vs. Guild
Depending on the defenses your guild has purchased from the Contractor, the guild will be given a military rating. Upon starting GvG, two random guilds with the same military rating will begin battle - one on offense, one on defense, much like GW1's GvG system. The offensive guild's ship could appear in a random spot on the coast of the Guild Island to add an element of surprise to both sides.
The offensive team's goal is to assassinate the Guild Lord, like in current GvG battles, and the defensive team's goal is either to wipe out their opponents within a time limit, or destroy their ship. The players re-spawning would occur at the corresponding bases, such as in Alliance Battles.
- Why this is a good idea
- More Guild-related things and more Guild build up; lives up to the name, Guild Wars
- After the guild hall is built, it gives a sense of accomplishment
- More devotion to the guild due to the teamwork and effort
- Seems more like a "guild" and not just a "team/party"
- Gives GvG a more epic feel
- Why it may not work out
- People may view guilds as time-consuming
- May kill the 'casual gaming' element of Guild Wars
- More purposeful with larger guilds; smaller guilds have no reason
- Much programming and server space
- What if the storage is full?
