Multiple Voice Actors (Discussion)
While it was less noticable in Factions and Prophicies, Nightfall really cut out the replayability because of that same one voice actor. We should be able to replay the game with a few different professions without hearing the same voice in the body of a different character.
Give us the option of choosing from a handful of voices, or just to be able to change the pitch/tone. Hearing a skinny necromancer come out with the toughguy accent with that crazy look in his eye just looks and sounds odd.
I'm not sure if voice actors will be used in GW2. If they are though, these are some points that I feel should probably be taken into account.
Note: As with NWN, a voice set system could be used. By choosing what voice your character has at the beginning of the game, you could affect every instance of their voice acting, such as battle cries, grunts, and voice clips during cutscenes. By adding simple effects such as echo, distortion or tone/pitch changing, voices could be greatly customizable.
- Why this is a good idea
- Extra variety in players, each character feels different.
- Everyone has their own voice, and the protagonist of the game won't seem to "swap bodies" for a while in cut scenes. A different voice actor might be used to represent a body type, for example.
- Why it may not work out
- Do you have any idea how expensive/time consuming it is to record just ONE script, despite the fact that as a majorly successful gaming company they should actually HAVE the money and resources to do this for their next major online game??"
- So, even if there were only five races (Which there isn't) there would still have to be ten voice actors, not counting npcs. Now, say that there are eight races, that's sixteen. Now, how would you like to go through hundreds of dialogue lines for male and female of each race, and distort them so they sound different then the original, BUT STILL SOUND LIKE NORMAL TALKING. They'd have to rectuit ten more staff members and assign them to voice editing with the latest voice software, which would cost mega bucks, and then they'd have to pay the freaking SIXTEEN PLUS actors who get 40$ A FREAKING WORD!!!! I agree, it'd be cool, but it's just impossible to do all this, and still have enough money to make a game after it's done.
