Falconeye's Proposal
How did you come up with energy management? Smite is pure damage, while all the other skills you listed give energy. Btw, angorodon's is OP already, don't buff bloodspike again.Crimmastermind 06:54, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Good, but it starts to become too much like Castigation Signet. Smiters need a bit more variety, imo.
- You forgot Castigation Signet. May just change the signet like the update did to Glowing Ice and just decrease the energy cost of smite. Yullive 15:25, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- As it currently stands, Angorodon's Gaze offers +13 energy at rank 15 Blood Magic. "Ele-e-skill-style" suggestion offers the same energy output at rank 16 Soul Reaping. In other words, give Soul Reaping more skills so we change it to something like: "When a non-spirit creature dies in your vicinity gain half that creatures level in energy up to your attribute in soul reaping. You may only gain energy in this way 3 times every 15 seconds." --Falconeye 02:25, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- don't nerf soul reaping. Gaining 1 energy, then 5 energy, then 3 energy, waiting 15 sec, is no e-management ---Chaos- 11:38, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- You mad? Soul Reaping as it currently stands is still infinite energy management. Anyway, Angorodon's Gaze was nerfed to useless, and bloodspike is about as worse as it's ever been. I don't think it's fair to use those in arguments about Smite. :\
- Anyway, this would buff smiteway, and that would be sad. (And if they hadn't removed Smiter's Boon... *shudder*) Vili 11:48, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- PvE can be as broken as it wants, soul reaping no longer works on spirits so necros have much less energy now. ---Chaos- 12:14, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Who needs spirits tbh. Another thought: Perhaps if Smite was made back into an Attack skill in addition to the proposed changes, that would make it balanced. Vili 12:21, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Why would monks have an attack skill? This would be a lot better as energy management, but unconditional energy would probably be to much, especially with all those "high-end" PvP whiners that qq about Smiting Prayers all the time. =\ If it is modeled after Castigation Signet shouldn't it only trigger on attacking foes?- I guess I should learn to read. >.>; I still don't agree with Essence Strike, and Angorodon's Gaze seems fine to me, but this change doesn't seem like it would upset much. Bathory 12:51, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Have you played PvP and encountered Smiteway yet? You'd be complaining too, then. Smiteway is a weak gimmicky build that is easily defeated by a balanced team, but it counters a lot of other gimmicks and unbalanced builds because Smite Hex/Smite Condition/Castigation Signet are so wtf good. Before Smiter's Boon was nerfed, it was actually even dangerous because they had srs healing as well. Giving them more enery management is, imo, a bad idea. (It's kind of a pity, since I personally like Smiting Prayers and would love to see them stronger; but such is the way of things being abused. Ruins it for everyone.) - Have you played PvP and encountered Smiteway yet, Vili? I was under the impression you only PvE'd. -Auron 13:49, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Of course I've never played HA or GvG. I can count my number of RA and TA matches on one, maybe two hands. I play
ABPvE almost exclusively. But still, that doesn't prevent me from talking as if I know wtf I'm on about. (Besides, I try as much as possible to regurgitate "facts" that real PvPers say. Like and such as you.) Vili 13:54, 21 January 2009 (UTC)- Fail and such as. Don't be a parrot :< -Auron 13:56, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- I prefer to think of myself as a mouthpiece or spreader of propaganda, but I am quite fond of cookies and crackers, so you may have a point there. (Does the source of the information matter, as long as they're true? Alternatively: if what I believe checks with what you say, it must be true, no?) Vili 14:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- But Auron is actually bad at the game so you shouldn't be parroting him at all <3 Misery 14:06, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Wow....good monks run 10 divine favor and above....so all those top monks in GvG who run below 10 DF are bad. Certainly we learn something new everyday.Pika Fan 13:38, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- It must have been a typo, because these days 10+ tactics is all the rage. Vili 13:40, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Nah, if you understood the context you would have known it wasn't a typo. Heck, even meta for TA/RA monking has barely enough points for 8-9 DF, much less 10.Pika Fan 13:42, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- I was making a sarcastic joke. "~27 DF heals are so weak! D:" is a common complaint I hear from Monks. The rest of those points are in heal and smite or prot, and Tactics or other self-defense. The conclusion being that even if Smite was changed, for those type Monks it could be rather useless, since the energy gain would be negligible/too risky. Vili 13:49, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Falconeye's suggestions that I've seen all seem like they'd make skills that way. Lancy and him love tying in skills to primary attributes for a reason I can't quite understand... Bathory 18:31, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I very much appreciate all of the imput you guys put in! Whenever Anet creates a major update, im inspired to see how much I can push new ideas into existing skills (Unyeilding Aura, Peace & Harmony, etc.). All of these is meant to create more options in terms of e-management. Even at rank 0, the skills cost you nothing provided they are used intelligently. please let me know if there are any other sub-par skills that may benefit from this set-up (such as bitter chill). --Falconeye 07:23, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Imo
Make it a one of those multi-class only things.
- Smite -
5 0 8 - "Melee Attack. If this attack hits, target foe takes +10...22...25 holy damage." Or something shield bash like.
- Smite -
5 0 15 - "Skill. For 3...6...7 seconds, while wielding a shield, the next attack against you is blocked and target foe is knocked down and takes 10...38...45 damage." -- Halogod35 20:16, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
