The Crystal Overlook is an explorable area in the Desolation and takes its name from the nearby Crystal Desert, the destination for Elonian pilgrims seeking Ascension. Parts of the Great Pilgrimage are repeated through quests in the Desolation as well as both quests and missions in Guild Wars Prophecies.
Getting there[edit]
You can only reach this area by crossing from one of the three adjoining explorable areas: the Alkali Pan, the Arid Sea, or The Ruptured Heart; it is not connected to any outpost or town. You can complete the Nightfall storyline without visiting this area, which is the site of a single secondary quest (Family Soul, which requires access to Prophecies) and one Zaishen Bounty.

Notes[edit]
- There is a Forgotten Guardian in the northwest corner of the map that allows travel to the Arid Sea (a region in the Crystal Desert of Prophecies). However, your account must have access to the Prophecies campaign and your current character must have completed the Sanctum Cay mission.
- The quest Family Soul affects the spawns in this area.
- There is an ancient structure at the very center of the map, inside the Sulfurous Haze area. Zehtuka's Great Horn may be found there, along with a Searing Cauldron.
- Complete exploration of this area contributes approximately 2.8% to the Elonian Cartographer title track.
- Vanquisher runs of this area without active quests require defeating around 196 foes. Including quest influences, it has been reported to range from 190 to 201 foes.
- Only the central sulfurous area and two sandy areas can be cleared while inside a Junundu.
- Apart from two spots where Desert Wurms and the graveyard where Restless Dead may appear, there are no hidden groups.
- There are a couple of easy to miss Djinn groups directly west of The Ruptured Heart exit.
- This area is relatively mild and easy compared to the other areas in the Desolation.
Trivia[edit]
- The Lonely Vigil seen in the Arid Sea is visible from the Forgotten Guardian's location (see image to the right).
- With proper triangulation and examination using the statue as a reference point, it can be shown that the maps do not line up properly, with sections of the Crystal Desert in Tyria overlapping sections in the other parts of the Desolation.
