Elementalists got a good buff and functionality change now. What they need however, is cross elemental skills and mechanics to give another depth of playing the elementalist, and taking them one step closer to the gw2 idea of small skill pool with each skill being given multiple roles depending on the tactical situation.
Status mechanics[edit]
Status mechanics work as the lead, off-hand, and dual attacks of assassins: fulfilling conditions for using certain skills, of acting as conditions for secondary effects, while having no negative effects on their own.
Water: Soak[edit]
Applied by water spells.
Earth: Mud[edit]
Applied by earth spells.
Air: Charged[edit]
Applied by air spells.
Fire: Heated[edit]
Applied by fire spells.
Example spells that utilize this system[edit]
Deep Freeze: 25 2 10 Hex Spell. Deals 10...80...98 Cold damage to nearby and removes soaked. Removal effect: nearby foes move 66% slower for 10 seconds.
Steam: 5 1½ 8 Spell. Must be cast on a heated target. Deals 8...38...45 cold damage and blinds target for 3...7...8 seconds. Removes heated.
Elemental Flame: 5 1 5 Hex Spell. (5...11...12 seconds.) Inflicts Burning condition (3...5...5 seconds) whenever heated is applied to target foe.
Lightning Strike: 5 1½ 4 Spell. Deals 5...41...50 lightning damage to target. Hits adjacent foes and deals 4...23...28 more lightning damage if target was soaked. This spell has 25% Armor Penetration.
Arc Lightning: 5 1½ 4 Spell. Must hit a soaked target. Deals 7...56...68 lightning damage to target and up to two nearby foes. This spell has 25% Armor Penetration.
5 1½ 8 Spell. Deals 15...63...75 lightning damage. If target foe is soaked adjacent foes take 10...42...50 lightning damage. 25% armor penetration.
Bed of Coals: 10 2 12 Spell. Deals 8...34...40 fire damage each second (5 seconds). Mudded foes move 33% slower (3 seconds) and also take an additional 5...21...25 fire damage each second. Hits foes adjacent to your current location.
Lightning Hammer: 15 2 4 Spell. Deals 8...62...76 lightning damage. Deals 5...30...36 more lightning damage to target and adjacent foes if target was charged. Removes charged
Magnetic Surge: 10 1½ 6 Spell. Must hit a charged foe. Removes charged and deals 30...102...120 damage.
10 1½ 10 Spell. Deals 15...63...75 damage. Also hits nearby foes if target foe is charged.

Lava Font: 10 2 4 Spell. Deals 5...41...50 fire damage and applies heated (4...7...8 seconds). Strikes foes adjacent to your initial location.
Smoldering Embers 5 1½ 6 Hex Spell. (8 seconds) Deals 7...91...112 fire damage. When the hexed foe takes fire damage, this spell inflicts heated (10 seconds).
Vapor Blade: 10 1½ 4 Half Ranged spell. Deals 15...63...75 cold damage and applies soaked (3...10...12 seconds) to target and adjacent foes.
Rust: 10 1 8 Hex Spell. Deals 10...58...70 cold damage and inflicts soaked (5...13...15 seconds) to target and adjacent foes. Hexes target and adjacent foes (5...17...20 seconds). Doubles signet activation times.
Swirling Aura: 5 1 20 Enchantment Spell (4...10...12 seconds). Foes striking you in melee are soaked (5...9...10 seconds, and you have a 50% chance to block attacks.
Maelstrom: 10 15 2 20 Spell. Deals 6...21...25 damage, applies soaked (10 seconds), and interrupts spells each second (10 seconds). Hits foes adjacent to target's location.
Lightning Touch: 5 ¾ 10 Touch Skill. Deals 10...50...60 lightning damage. Also hits foes adjacent to target foe. Inflicts Blindness (3...7...8 seconds) on any of these foes who are soaked. Inflicts charged (15 seconds). 25% armor penetration.
Ash Blast: 10 ¾ 8 Spell. Must be cast on a heated foe. Inflicts mudded (12 seconds) and blindness (3...6...7 seconds) and deals 10...54...65 earth damage.
