Go here to see a list of my other GW2 suggestions and discussion contributions.
I realize the GW2 trait system is being reworked as of this writing. Regardless of what its final form will be, it appears that traits (or whatever they evolve into in the future) and attributes can be redistributed by the player at will outside of combat. With so many traits and attributes available to the player, I could see it becoming rather cumbersome, distracting, and time consuming to redistribute these points between conflicts.
If it hasn't already been considered or added, I suggest allowing players to save trait and attribute distributions much the same way players can save skills and attribute distributions in GW1. This way a player can rapidly choose a trait and attribute "build" from their pre-saved templates and switch between them much more easily than having to manually redistribute points between battles.
I would also suggest that the trait and attribute builds be assigned to a key or keys as well as giving the player the ability to change the key assignment in the options panel. This way players can rapidly switch between trait and attribute builds with a simple keystroke rather than being forced to open the traits and attributes panel and having to mouse click their desired trait and attribute build from a list that may be buried down a couple layers in the panel. This way the player isn't being burdened with opening yet another panel mid-game, breaking their immersion, and taking their focus away from playing the game to focus instead on a UI element.
If the number of keys available for player controls is starting to get scarce, then make the trait and attribute build key a toggle. Let's say Num Pad 1 and Num Pad 2 are the only keys left to which to assign this new functionality. Pressing Num Pad 1 will load Trait and Attribute Build #1. This is completely customizable by the player; they can assign whatever build they want to the #1 slot. Pressing Num Pad 1 a second time will toggle to Trait and Attribute Build #2. Next, pressing Num Pad 2 will load Trait and Attribute Build #3. Lastly, pressing Num Pad 2 a second time will toggle to Trait and Attribute Build #4.
So with just two keys the player will have rapid access to their four favorite trait and attribute builds. They can still open their traits and attributes panel to manually select a different Trait and Attribute Build than the four they have assigned to the keystrokes. But at least some of their builds will be accessible by a key assignment, reducing the frequency with which they would have to open the traits and attributes panel.
Even if there's not a shortage of available key assignments for the trait and attribute builds, maybe consider adding this toggle feature anyway for players who want to use it (it could be turned on or off in the options panel or traits and attributes panel). This way it doubles the amount of builds accessible by keystroke, making it that much more useful. Throw in the SHIFT or CTRL keys and then the amount of builds accessible by keystroke could be quadrupled. Use both the SHIFT and CTRL keys and the key-assignable builds could even be octupled (is that even a word?).
