Concept showing contrast between added and missing miniatures for the First Birthday series.

Premise[edit]

We all know players have been asking for extra storage specifically for miniatures, especially now with the 5th birthday series coming up fast. I have an alternate idea which I think could be fun, practical and reasonable.

Basic Idea[edit]

I'm not quite sure what to call it yet, but let's call it a Minipet Nest for now. What I have in mind is something like the Incubator Kit. There would be one for each of the birthday series, and maybe one for the celestial mini series, if we get them all at some point. None for the limited release minis, as it's hard to organize them anyway, there are a lot of different minis in this category, and well, they're limited, so not many people are reasonably expected to have a lot of them.

More Details[edit]

The Nests can be crafted via a scavenger item hunt, similar to the Black Moa Chick one, requiring the three campaigns and the expansion, and beginning and ending somewhere in the Zaishen Menagerie. One Nest of each type can be crafted per account, as it makes sense to have one miniature collection per account.

Each Nest would be specific to the birthday series it's for, and have 14 slots, one for each of the minis in that series (12 for celestials if implemented). Thus, a full collection of birthday minis would take up one slot in the inventory, instead of 14. The Nest can be put in storage, but cannot be traded, similar to Zaishen Coins. It would not be customized, allowing all characters on the account to open and use it.

If possible to code, double-clicking the minis inside would put them out just like as if they were in you backpack or storage box. If that's absolutely not possible for some reason, I think we can live with taking the mini out and then double-clicking it. Both dedicated and undedicated minis should be allowed, so the Nest code would have only 2 "flags" for each entry - whether the mini is there, and whether it's dedicated. This makes the Nest into somewhat of a hybrid between the Equipment Pack and the Incubator Kit.

Notes[edit]

This would give an extra something for people to do if they want to get these, and it would mildly encourage collecting a full set of minis to fill the Nests, which I don't consider to be a bad thing. It would also be a blessing to all those meticulous miniature collectors out there who just must have them all.

This is intended for collectors who simply want a place to put a full (or just large) set of common minis, one of each type, which I find to be the only valid reason to grant players more storage for these things. This is not to give more space to hoard multiples of the same mini for powertrading or whatever other reasons - use up your normal storage for that.

In contrast to some of the other minipet storage ideas out there, this one doesn't involve the HoM, duplication or destruction of minis, or any other "funny" business. It's just a special case of an equipment pack just for minis, that can be kept in storage and moved between characters. I also don't see any room for abuse of any kind. I can't say I know a lot about the items code in GW, but I imagine this being a more compact way, code-wise, to store minis than normal storage spaces.

If you don't like the idea of putting Joko and Gwen together into a "nest," this could be made into a jewelry box type thing instead, or whatever, I don't think it matters much what it looks like or what it's called. You could call it a PolyBall and make it look like a PokeBall for all I care. XD

Some math: assuming we get 5 Nests for the 5 Birthday Series, plus one for the Celestial minis, we can fit 14*5+12=82 minis in 6 storage spaces! Wow, that's almost as much space as two full mule characters! While it would most likely take less space on the server.

I personally wouldn't mind paying up to $10 USD for some item needed for the scavenger hunt to get these (total for all nests, not each), but not more than that. Of course, free is always better.
