As one of many people sharing a Guild Wars account, being able to share the rewards from Guild Wars 1's Hall of Monuments would give both of us the chance to enjoy (and buy) Guild Wars 2. Here are the ideas I presented in an e-mail to the support team:
"in order to encourage a friend to play, you can give your friend access to your Hall of Monuments, so that A) Players fresh to the Guild Wars games can begin with bonus items, furthering their enjoyment of the game and cementing them as continued players; B) it allows you to solve the problem that people sharing accounts WILL encounter if both want to play Guild Wars 2, and C) you would get increased revenue from people buying their own Guild Wars 2 game and account, incentivized by the prospect of starting with bonus items gifted by a friend, AND players sharing accounts will buy another copy of the game, instead of possibly sharing a Guild Wars 2 account as well."
I recognize there are drawbacks to implementing a system such as this. Players would have to be exceptionally careful not to get phished, or otherwise lose their accounts and Hall links. However, the benefits and opportunities to share the experience of Guild Wars 2 with a friend far outweigh the few possible problems that such a system would create.
Tentatively, I call it the "Legacy-Buddy System."
