What now?

XTH is closed, rp are distributed, skill ballace made. What are you working on? What are future plans? Will we get any new content soon? Any news? Some time ago we were told about major content update every 3-4 months. Will we get any new content for 5th anniversary of GW (except new birthday minis)?

What are you working on now (! mean GW, not GW2), what you have done everything you were talk about. Titus andronicus 01:31, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

I'd be very excited to know, too! That is, if you're able to disclose that information. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 02:44, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

127, or would you prefer localhost? it is generally a bad idea to speak in definates, you don't know how they treat their employees at arenanet, they could have her brainwashed to physically be unable to disclose information, of course she wouldn't be able to say if this was the case. I guess what I'm saying is, Free Regina from the evil ArenaNet overlords! --Orry 21:52, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Well according to Linsey's FB page, she's working on a big content update, and it seems to be lore-related (Since she hint at killing people off). However, it could help if such announcements were made officially and not through at a hardly-looked personal FB profile. I mean, I could have added her and get updates like that, but hey, I don't even know her. Although I like her a lot. --talk Large 20:06, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

What employees do on their personal Facebook profiles isn't considered official messaging, though it may act as a teaser in some way. If I am not talking about anything in great detail or mentioning anything at all, it's because I am not cleared to talk about it. That said, the fifth anniversary is coming up... So you'll probably see something happening to mark the occasion. ;-) Keep your eyes peeled. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 01:42, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

i would like to apologize (and a few questions)

First of all, I would like to apologize for my anger a few days ago. I am very attached to the permanent Shadow Form build for farming purposes and am really defense on this, but there are a few questions that I would like to know:

1) Are you really against solo-farming of all forms (including boss farming, even most of the bosses farmed with the perma-SF build isn't really the hardest bosses in the game)?

2) Since you are an anime fan, I was wondering if I can call you Reggie-chan or Regina-san. I find calling you Regina or Brinstar to be too boring.

3) Oh yeah, on the side note, I've noticed Kari Wahlgren voiced Gwen for Guild Wars: Eye of the North. Just to let you know, that voice actress is quite a regular in anime voice acting, like this character. I was wondering if you and the team have ever thought including more voice actors who are regulars in anime for the voice cast in Guild Wars 2 (i.e. Johnny Yong Bosch, Stephanie Sheh, Yuri Lowenthal, Crispin Freeman, Wendee Lee, Michelle Ruff, etc).

Anyways, peace. I hope you can accept my apology. Bonus points if you guys can create an anime series of Guild Wars that takes place within the 250 year gap between GW1 and GW2.--Dark Paladin X 02:50, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, Dark Paladin X. It's nice of you to apologize. I respect that.
1) The designers make decisions on this, and my own personal feelings about farming don't really play into their decisions. They're aware of the farming habits of players, and they make a decision on whether they feel that this fits within their philosophy of how the game should be. In the case of Shadow Form, well---you've hopefully read their Developer Update on that. ;-)
2) Unfortunately, you'll have to cope with me having a boring name. :-) Regina was the name I was given at birth, and it's the name I would like people to use to call me. Otherwise I'll get confused and wonder who you're talking to. I'm getting on in my years, you see. :-)
3) I don't believe it is a conscious choice for our development team to choose voice actors who are active in anime voice acting, it's just a decision whether that actor fits with the role and auditions well. The designers' and writers' top priority is to make the game as evocative as possible, and for those voice actors to bring out the best in the characters and bring those characters to life.
4) In terms of making a Guild Wars anime... There aren't plans for this, but I think the main consideration would be that it doesn't suck. I've seen animated shows based on existing brands go horribly wrong. See: Dragonlance. Honestly, it might be cool, but I don't think it's in the cards. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 01:31, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Update

I'd like to let you know that while the big update brought some rage (although people received it positivly in general) the small updates don't.I'm telling you this because I'm afraid you don't realise enough how much the community appreciates small updates like these. It lets us know you care and you observe.Basically People would be alot more satisfied if you made an update every 3 days fixing 2 skills rather than an update every month fixing 40 skills. These are just example numbers ofcourse. This is *not* a suggestion.I'd just like to thank you on behalf of the community for updates like these. Eventhough alot of people still think Seeping wound is overpowered or even broken it is very imporant that you just made this small update. So thanks :). Yeen 11:37, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

"On a sidenote could people discuss on my talkpage and just sign if you agree ? "... no, b/c you're attempting to speak for the whole community on what was effectively just a Bug Fix. ....now go look at the the bottom' of this List... See how many bad choices coulda ended up going live if they were pushed out the door with only a couple days of consideration? --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 19:24, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
I was talking about quick fixes because they see something is Overpowered. If you want to be smart answer to the point Yeen 19:34, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Yeen: We're glad that this update to Seeping Wound agreed with you. :-) After every single game update, the designers, community team, and the entire Live Team are all on deck through various channels keeping an eye on discussions and conversations in the forums, in-game public chat, in guild chat, in alliance chat, on instant messenger, etc. to see if any urgent or high priority adjustments need to be made. Of course, many times it's a judgment call that designers need to make in terms of whether an adjustment should be made immediately, or with the next skill balance. In this case, based on feedback that I and others delivered, they decided Seeping Wound should be re-adjusted immediately. But it's a case-by-case basis sort of thing. I completely understand that you and others in the player base want more frequent updates, even if they're smaller. But the developers, in the majority of cases, want to have a full testing and discussion process in place before updates go live. Considered, well thought out skill balance takes time, even for just one or two designers working on it, and the process takes a bit more time when you include more cooks in the kitchen so to speak. And this more open process in working with the Test Krewe, results in adding more time to a skill balance. The recent skill balance was a comparatively large one when you look at past updates, and of course the size of that added some time. --Regina Buenaobra User Regina Buenaobra sig.png 01:18, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
I was actually referring to very quick number fixes. For example X deals 150 damage, therefor its to much. You quickly reduce it to 105 to bring it to balance. But thanks for the response =) Yeen 06:26, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Ok, For example X skill gives you permanent invulnerability if used correctly with other skills, remind you of an old skill? If the team just thought that they would remove the skill one day straight then and there, then lots of people would complain, and I mean a lot. Having the ability to talk to other staff, talk to the test krewe etc. has to be used first so they don't do something that doesn't agree at all with the public. The last thing they want is a huge mob of angry gamers ;) I hope this helped. --58.7.179.172 01:19, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure they had a raging crowd that loved shadowform a bit to intense now aswell Yeen 18:04, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Heroes in Zaishen Arenas

Regina,

Any information on when heroes will be returned to the Zaishen Arenas?

Thank you! Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 20:52, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

I'd also like to see heroes returning to scrims but I don't think they're planning to do either. Tidas 08:42, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
I've come across quite a few in game and on the wiki that would like heroes returned to the Zaishen Arenas. Plus the fact that heroes being removed was unintentional ergo the question. Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 19:35, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

does there have to be a quest for every mission? I'm sure others have been omitted for perfectly good reasons like "that mission is gay, players hate it." –Jette 21:06, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Yep, its the only mission out of all 4 campaigns/expansions that doesn't have a corresponding zquest. If you doubt it, cross check the entries in each of these storybooks with these lists: 1, 2, 3. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:06, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi

I got a small request if you could bother anyone who knows...

Deflect Arrows Riposte Rush Crushing Blow and Crude Swing are 5 prophecies skills with scrapped factions-looking icons, which leads me to guess that these were supposed to be the warrior duplicates before you changed your minds. Is this true?

UW

With the addition of Skeletons of Dhuum, you not only hindered the practices of Speed Clears (a.k.a took them a day to find a workaround), but also messed up ANY attempts, to do it with a balanced (i.e. not 6 tanks/terras/whatever) teams. Servants of Grenth is physically impossible, Unwanted Guests is a mess. Didn't think about the Four Horsemen, but that basically sucks as well. Please rethink the underworld design, as it currently promotes farming. --Boro 10px‎ 09:18, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

I havn't found it quite as bad as your making out, unwanted guests and four horsemen havn't caused problems for many of the groups I've been in, but I will agree that the overall difficulty increase and servants of grenth are fairly balanced group unfriendly changes. Tidas 09:55, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh, no, Tidas, it is as bad as Boro says. I think the skeletons of dhuum are a nice touch; they add a lot of flavor to the UW, but dang, I have yet to be able to finish on HM. EVERY team I have joined in HM utterly fails, at one of the pts that Boro listed: Servants of Grenth or The Four Horsemen. I've tried everything and have tried with countless builds and groups, and have failed every time, without exception. I never had this problem before the skeles. I don't think the skeles should be removed, but something should be done to make the UW not impossible for balanced teams. Currently, the only groups going through UW on HM are speed clear groups, which, I'm certain, you were trying to steer away from with the addition of the skeles. Well, as Boro said, they are still doing speed clears, and balanced groups can no longer function down there. Many suggestions have been made about how to improve this. I hope you are watching those or that you have your own ideas about how to fix this. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 01:36, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
There is a basic principle about farming which says people only farm farmable enemies. And UW has many farmable enemies. Labyrinth is full of warriors. Wastes with Melee-attacking monks (Sympathetic Visage nulls their energy), Planes with Mesmers (Bring Obsidian Flesh or Shadow form to farm them indefinately), Mountains is again full of physicals, pits and pools are again one-faceted. Without any diversity, proper snares in proper locations, proper amount of interrupts, monster synergies, it will simply be an overfarmed area now inaccessible for balanced players. --Boro 10px‎ 15:49, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Aftercast delay on signets

There's Dolyak Signet and Signet of Mystic Speed which have no activation time, but have an aftercast delay. Is this intended behavior or a bug? - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 11:19, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

There's no aftercast delay; they just don't activate outside of the normal queue (because they're signets). You can move/attack/whatever immediately after using SoMS (I don't use Dolyak Signet, but, presumably, it works in the same way), but you will have to re-initiate the action, just like you would after using any other skill that activates in the normal queue. User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 15:42, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Try C-spacing onto a target before using these signets. Prevents the aftercast. BlazeRick 17:38, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Is Shadow Form bugged?

Its descriptions very clearly says: "You cannot deal more than 5...21 damage with a single skill or attack." ...but skills like Sand Shards Sand Shards, Ether Nightmare.jpg Ether Nightmare & Sliver Armor Sliver Armor continually deal out a lot more than that Capped amount by dealing it in AoE's over time. Could you please confer with Linsey on this? (since she won't talk to us directly anymore?) --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 19:06, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Or perhaps it's just poor wording. — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 19:21, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
then wouldn't they just have said "everytime you deal damage" instead then? --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 19:25, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps. 20/20 hindsight? — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 19:29, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps... But in its new State it's gone from something that kept the Solo farmers out of PvE groupings; to a much more Maintainable spell breaker, specifically used for speed clears. And as a result; It's starting to prevent other classes from even getting into speedy groups. And no I'm not blaming Anet for its community being predictable elitists (although ignoring that eventualality would be the very definition of insanity), I just want to know why this skill has such a huge loophole going against its own wording... --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 19:42, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
I just wonder why they haven't buffed Spellbreaker, tbh. More importantly, though, why does this matter? The only thing that matters is that SF's damage reduction doesn't function properly, which is very, very, very sad. :< ··· Danny Pew Pew
it's consistent with other skills like protective spirit. when the game refers to damage in a single skill it's referring to damage packets. still stupid, though, since it didn't actually nerf anything. –Jette 06:02, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
didn't it nerf the soloers who ran it off consumables?... Whatever the case, the loophole of damage packets doesn't accomplish their whole "Extreme defense should come at the price of offense." Shpiel then and the phrasing is misleading --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 07:38, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I would make it end after dealing 50..500 damage. Hehehehe... MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 13:27, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
