Fantastic idea[edit]
This is a fantastic idea, I'd love to see such an API exposed so that a variety of fan-created apps or web systems could be developed freely. I would especially love to see more options for interaction with the game (after authentication of course), such as your suggestion for chat that can connect players in the game with on-the-move app users. What about expanding the trade interface so that you could post auctions/bids through the trading post, send/read in-game mail with other players, and perhaps even participate in minigames with other app users or in-game players? - Creating an API that reads the market data is probably a lot easier than one that allows active participation (e.g. modifying bids or putting up items for sale), especially since read-only data doesn't require authentication (something that can be tricky when allowing any third party developer to piggy back, e.g. for writing mobile phone apps). However, at the very least, I'm hoping they provide nearly anything; there's no reason ANet should waste valuable developer time writing apps when there are already 1000s of volunteers. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:14, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
This is just common sense.[edit]
And something other developers consider to be a launch-ready element to any game. Also allowing players to get cracking on mods, because let's face it, no one is ever happy with the launched game's UI, or the way games never give you X information about Y within the game, etc, etc, and want the variety and variation available through player developed mods. Why this wasn't done ab initio is just another great example of Arenanet dropping the ball. Thus, I clearly strongly support this players suggestion. Bashprompt 11:56, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
