Parser Functions

Hello, I just tried to use the parser function #expr and everytime I tried to save/see preview, the whole page was white. Try it yourself at Guild Wars Wiki:Sandbox with the following code:

{{#expr:1+1}}

Hope you can fix this bug. Poke 14:05, 16 March 2007 (EDT)

It seems this happens anytime there is an operation that is made (at least all the examples I tried that were operations bombed out). If there is no operation it works:
{{ #expr: 0.000001 }} returns 1.0E-6
--Rainith 14:58, 16 March 2007 (EDT)
I sure hope someone from A.Net hops by on this page and notices this bug. It is kind of hampering the Template:Skill infobox completion as well as some other expr-dependant pages. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 15:31, 19 March 2007 (EDT)
Sorry guys...I've been out with a nasty flu, and have just managed to crawl to my laptop today to check this out. I will pass the issue along to IT via email right away. Thanks for catching the issue :) --Emily Diehl 13:43, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
This issue should be fixed as of now. Please let us know if there are further issues. --Emily Diehl 14:31, 22 March 2007 (EDT)

Guild Talk -> Guild talk

Could the name of the Guild name space talk pages be changed from "Guild Talk" to "Guild talk". This will make it consistant with other name space talk pages in this wiki. Thank you. --Aspectacle 00:56, 22 March 2007 (EDT)

This should be taken care of! --Emily Diehl 14:31, 22 March 2007 (EDT)

WikEd Inline Editor not Loading

Hi Guys, I just made the jump from Guild Wiki to Guild Wars Wiki and started to look around and setup up my space. On Guild Wiki I use WikEd which works just fine using the Complete Version Installation method. I tried the same steps here and it does not seem to be working. (Server setting limiting JavaScript in user pages?) --Glamtre 04:25, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

That's correct - user CSS and JS are not currently available. There is a request here to have it added, but ArenaNet is still evaluating the request. You can add your support and/or any comments to the request to have it added. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 10:06, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Added support vote.--Glamtre 12:03, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
How are bug reports handled? Once a bug is fixed, or it is known as in this case to be an request for features, is the article edited? Does an Administrator archive the request, does the "owner" stirke out the request? Is there more detail on how to process/edit the article, or do we need to write that article?--Glamtre 12:03, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Migraine

The skill image for Migraine has refused to load. - 16:23, 27 March 2007 (EDT)

Both Migraine and Image:Migraine.jpg work for me. --Dirigible 16:25, 27 March 2007 (EDT)
Must just be me. ;-) - Drago
If you use Adblock (or equivalent) with the Filterset.G updater, you will get this problem as the cached image for Migraine lies within a folder named "ad". — Galil Ranger 12:50, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
Or it could be your firewall. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:11, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

Heroes' Ascent Image

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Image:Heroes%27_Ascent.jpg Does the picture on this page appear stretched to you? After that check out Heroes' Ascent. The picture when linked displays correctly for me, but on the file page, an old image version is displayed out of proportion. The Ice Master 19:49, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

It is a caching issue with your browser. Clear your browser's cache and the new image will be shown. --Rainith 22:34, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

Skill information error

The assassin move: "Repeting Strike" The image for it shows that it needs 1 seconds to recharge while in the game it does not recharge.

~Halogod35~

Fixed. If you see similar problems in future you are welcome fix them up yourself. This page is more meant for problems we can't fix without outside techinal assistance. :) --Aspectacle 01:20, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

Sorry about that, It was back then I didn't know how to use Wikipedia, but now I do. =P

Image caching

Perhaps it is normal behavior, but when I uploaded the following files: Image:Plant Hunt.jpg and Image:Skree Battle.jpg, both of them didn't update to my file. Instead, the image of User:ab.er.rant got resized to my file's dimensions. Is this a bug or normal behavior? I have cleared my entire Firefox cache and still only see the old image. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 06:44, 22 April 2007 (EDT)

This has been noted in various places. It is very likely that ArenaNet are using a caching server and it doesn't update immediately. There is nothing sysops can do. If this is proving problematic a request on GWW:TECH would be the best course of action. LordBiro 12:20, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
Any idea how often this caching server refreshes? -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 12:48, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
Uploads that I've carried out have never taken more than an hour to be replaced (as far as I can recall), but I couldn't say if it's longer or shorter than that. LordBiro 14:58, 22 April 2007 (EDT)
i've also noticed this problem, and it's quite annoying. I uploaded a new version of Image:Ogre-Slaying Knife.jpg, and I guess i messed it up by reverting and reverting (I didn't know I had to wait).--Zemmy 20:17, 23 April 2007 (EDT)
I've seen this numerous times and have posted to newbs pages informing them of the problem if I see them uploading the same image more than 3 times. :) It is a highly frustrating problem, it seems to be random when it clears for me. But Lord Biro is right - no more than an hour, sometimes 5-10 minutes. --Aspectacle 20:42, 23 April 2007 (EDT)

Perhaps that timing depends on actual time? "no more than an hour, sometimes 5-10 minutes." sounds for me that once in an hour that synch is made, if you upload shortly after that synch you have to wait another hour until it is re-synched. I don't upload much images, but have seen that talks about not-showing uploads. - MSorglos 03:07, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

Edit Conflict

I'm not receiving edit conflict notices when I post. See HERE for examples given by Drigible. I hope someone can offer some insight. Thanks. --File:VallenIconwhitesmall.JPG Vallen Frostweaver 08:09, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

Could this be what's happening? -- http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Edit_conflict#Logical_edit_conflicts --Rezyk 22:19, 30 April 2007 (EDT)

404

Is anyone else getting a 404 when they access Pain? LordBiro 04:38, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

By the way, a link to index.php will work, [1]. LordBiro 04:38, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Accessed the article fine :/ User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 04:41, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Ok, this is weird, and I'm worried it's just happening to me. I wanted to see what some articles looked like in lynx, because I hadn't tried looking at the new skill infobox in lynx yet. I went to "Pain" in lynx because it was the shortest skill name I could think of and I got a 404. Then I went into Firefox to check, and I also got a 404. Then I posted here.
Then I went to Shield of Regeneration in Firefox and it worked. I copied the URL into lynx and got a 404, and now when I go to Shield of Regeneration in Firefox I get a 404. o_o LordBiro 04:45, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Checked Pain again, also SoR, both with IE and Firefox - still no problem this end. User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 04:52, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, I suspect (for some reason) that these URLs have been blocked from me. Perhaps accessing them in lynx triggers some sort of security software? LordBiro 05:19, 19 April 2007 (EDT)
I saw the same, Biro, so the problem is not on your side. Pain seems to be working properly again though, so not sure what's causing it. --Dirigible 05:35, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

System messages

As first reported at Template talk:Skill infobox#Hideous, the system messages (Special:Allmessages) are currently only showing the default MediaWiki settings, instead of updating correctly from the database (or maybe the default values are overwriting the changes in MediaWiki:pages?). Which means that pages like MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWiki:Sidebar aren't loading for the users, resulting in skill pages looking broken and the sidebar asking for donations. =\ --Dirigible 06:54, 30 April 2007 (EDT)

You can see the list of the MediaWiki: namespace pages that this is affecting here. Apparently MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning isn't loading either, which makes this issue considerably more urgent. =\ --Dirigible 07:24, 30 April 2007 (EDT)
I'll pass this along to IT and see if they can figure out why the main stylesheet isn't being used. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:43, 30 April 2007 (EDT)
As noted by Barek at MediaWiki talk:Sidebar, the sidebar is for some reason working correctly again, while the rest of the MediaWiki pages still aren't being loaded. --Dirigible 17:26, 30 April 2007 (EDT)
I did a null edit on each of those interface pages; from what I could tell, it seemed to fix it. Caching issue, I guess. --Rezyk 21:58, 30 April 2007 (EDT)
Aye, seems it's back to normal. Good stuff! :) --Dirigible 22:07, 30 April 2007 (EDT)

Image cache

Is there a reason why we're getting so many image cache problems? By this I mean uploading a new version of a file and it not updating for several hours. - BeX 00:52, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

Don't know wether it is really fixed, old report is now in archive. - MSorglos 03:35, 1 May 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, I only noticed that after I posted this, but it doesn't seem like it was resolved at all. I mean, it's still happening constantly and there's no statement about why or if it will be fixed. - BeX 03:52, 1 May 2007 (EDT)
Hiya guys. I've also noticed the caching issues, and I'm pointing it out to IT. I'll let you know if we figure out what's going on. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 13:19, 1 May 2007 (EDT)
Thankies. :) - BeX 13:30, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

501 Method Not Implemented

  1. Visit Kill.
  2. Click on any wiki link from that page. You should get an error of this type (the example below is when you click on the Special:Recentchanges link).
Method Not Implemented
GET to /wiki/Special:Recentchanges not supported.

--Dirigible 19:14, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

I'm guessing that this is fixed now as Recent changes worked for me from the Kill page. --Rainith 22:27, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

Kill Article

As reported by Wongba, the Kill article has a technical problem. 501 Method Not Implemented errors are generated if you attempt to link from that page, this includes the Edit, Talk, Watch, History or any other links. You can manually type http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Kill&action=edit to edit, but you cannot click the tab. --User Rohar icon.jpg Rohar (talk|contribs) 19:14, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

Beat you to it by at least half a minute. My wiki-fu is stronger than yours. --Dirigible 19:17, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
ROFL. I almost replied to your post "I didn't know we were racing.". Cheers ;) --User Rohar icon.jpg Rohar (talk|contribs) 19:19, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
Using RefControl Firefox add-on to control the referring url it appears to give the error on any page inside this wiki when the referring url contains *slash*Kill (in AnY cAsE) at the end. Very strange bug. now after try to post this response, you can't even post/preview any text containing "/ kill" (without the space in between) O.o (play creepy music here) -Smurf User Smurf.png 19:40, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
Happens when I try to edit the skill infobox too. - BeX 21:33, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
All is well ;) See for yourself at Kill. --User Rohar icon.jpg Rohar (talk|contribs) 10:46, 4 May 2007 (EDT)

Random 403

I keep getting errors when I try to access Main Page. At first it was a 403, now it's saying I'm logged in as someone else. :S - BeX 21:03, 3 May 2007 (EDT)

Hmm, is this fixed now too? I'm not seeing this problem either. --Rainith 22:28, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
I think it has something to do with the bug that says you're logged in as someone else. I forced refresh a few times and it started working again. I think someone said it was happening over at gwiki too, recently. - BeX 23:39, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
Hey guys! I just wanted to let you all know that both the 403 and the kill issues should be resolved. Please let me know if any further problems are experienced so I can pass them along :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 14:26, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
I'm still getting the 403 problem. sometimes at talk pages, and sometimes on other random pages. It's strange. then again, if i do just come back to the page a few minutes later, it will be working again. btw, this was all happening today.. I've never had a 403 problem before.--Zemmy 15:42, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
I just went through the 403 Forbidden Twilight Zone. Yikes! --User Rohar icon.jpg Rohar (talk|contribs) 16:00, 4 May 2007 (EDT)

HTTP Error 501

Getting lots of these :/ User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 15:12, 4 May 2007 (EDT)

Was surprised it allowed me to add that. I've been getting this error for over an hour now "This error (HTTP 501 Not Implemented or HTTP 505 Version Not Supported) means that the website you are visiting doesn't currently have the ability to display the webpage, or support the HTTP version used to request the page." Added: IE7 and Firefox User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 15:15, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
I just got this error right now while editing my userpage and wanted to preview it. O_O--Zemmy 21:15, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Hi guys...I'm sending an email to IT about this issue, so they should take a look at it and see what could be happening. I haven't run into the problem at all today, so I'm personally not sure what could be going on. I'll pass it along and see what they say. Until then, make sure you aren't loading cached versions of the wiki :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:22, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Woo, another update! I just got an email back from IT that said that they've tracked down the current problem and have fixed it. I'll be working on the wiki a lot this weekend, time permitting, so if anyone experiences any other problems, pop a note on here or on my talk page and I will pass the issue along. Thanks for being patient guys! :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 22:37, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
Many thanks, I have just tried previewing some of the pages that were glitching yesterday and everything seems fine now. Of course, you already knew that, because the IT folks told you it was fixed, but I just wanted to say "thanks" and also let you know that I appreciate your quick response and reply :) User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 05:51, 5 May 2007 (EDT)

Template Issue

The skill template has been modified and the layour has been messed up

Can you name a specific skill page that has a messed up layout? (Every one that I've checked looks okay to me.) --Rezyk 20:39, 7 May 2007 (EDT)
It happens on every skill page for me, but I checked on another computer and all is good. Guess IE is messed up on mine.
Make sure CSS is enabled on that computer, maybe? Actually, you'd have far more noticeable issues than just the skill pages if CSS was disabled. Not sure. --Dirigible 20:46, 7 May 2007 (EDT)
Not sure what caused the issue, but all is good now. Thanks

I was able to reproduce a messed-up layout (probably this same issue) in IE6, and testing led me to believe it was related to a recent change in MediaWiki:Common.css. I've partially reverted the change and it seems to fix it. --Rezyk 21:30, 7 May 2007 (EDT)

Error creating thumbnail:

Getting this error on Mesmer masks. Files can be accessed fine though. - BeX 02:36, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

Actually it seems to be happening on a number of pages. Nearly every newly uploaded file is giving this error. - BeX 02:39, 8 May 2007 (EDT)
I wonder if it is an issue with permissions in one of the image directories? LordBiro 06:24, 8 May 2007 (EDT)
Hi guys. Sorry for the issues with images. I just got in and will pass it along to IT right away. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 13:04, 8 May 2007 (EDT)
No need to apologize every time Emily, it's not something you can foresee. :-) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 04:38, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

Cannot edit my monobook.js

I get an internal error whenever I try to save or preview edits to my monobook.js. Even if I don't change anything, I get an error when pressing show preview. - anja Anja Astor (talk) 07:46, 10 May 2007 (EDT)

Strange. I can edit mine fine, might wanna get someone with sysop rights to try edit yours, see if its just you or just your page. — Skuld 07:50, 10 May 2007 (EDT)
Having the same problem when I submit something containing "-image:" after "background". similar to the /kill problem. It also hates my js file. -Smurf User Smurf.png 18:36, 10 May 2007 (EDT)
Hi guys...I got an email from IT this morning mentioning that this issue is occurring because you are running external scripts on your monobook.js pages, and this is flagging as a security risk. The script in question is the Lupin's popups. As you can see by checking out the code, the script is pulling from Lupins's .js file on Wikipedia. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 14:15, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
A number of us use this script to help us administrate the site. Is there any chance that the security level could be reduced? LordBiro 14:25, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
Hmm, if the problem were only Lupin's popups, then we could just host the code for that here on the wiki, but I can't even edit my monobook.js to point to the local copy. People are also running other scripts, so those would need to be imported as well. And I don't even see any external scripts in either of Smurf's .js files (1, 2). I think the security settings might be a bit too high indeed. I'm not even sure why pulling a user JS should be flagged as a security risk server-side; besides the user who is running it no one else is affected by that script at all. --Dirigible 14:53, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
I'm not really sure about the details of these things, so I am going to send an email to IT and see what they have to say about the topic :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 15:18, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

(Resetting indent) OK guys...I got an email from IT, and they'd like you guys to try again. Could you do this for me and let me know if you have any more issues? --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:01, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

works for me, thanks :) -Smurf User Smurf.png 16:09, 11 May 2007 (EDT)
It's working fine now, thank you :) - anja talk (contribs) 18:47, 11 May 2007 (EDT)

System messages again

Now the sidebar shows the "current events" and "donations" links for me again.. And the skill box is not working as it should. It looks like it did when we viewed it without the right css, when LordBiro was first creating it. - anja talk (contribs) 04:44, 20 May 2007 (EDT)

It looks like the default system messages are being used as opposed to our customised ones, as described at Guild Wars Wiki:Reporting wiki bugs/archive 1#System_messages. LordBiro 05:05, 20 May 2007 (EDT)
Can a sysop/bcrat try making a null edit to each of these pages? That's what Rezyk did last time, if I remember right, and it corrected the issue. --Dirigible 07:34, 20 May 2007 (EDT)
I performed a null edit on the sidebar and that does seem to have fixed it. But I don't think that this issue should be archived. I think it's important that we discover why this is happening; at the moment we don't have many items in the MediaWiki namespace, but as it grows it will become less realistic a solution to null edit every article. LordBiro 08:50, 20 May 2007 (EDT)
Hi guys....sorry I've been unavailable over the last week or so. I've had a lot of other tasks popping up around the studio to take care of. I will pass this recent issue on to IT and see what they have to say about it. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 16:57, 21 May 2007 (EDT)

upload directory not writeable

I just tried to upload a file at http://wiki.guildwars.com/index.php?title=Special:Upload&wpDestFile=Kiishen.jpg and got this error:

Issue check

Hi guys! I passed both of these issues along to IT yesterday, and they wanted me to check to see if they were still issues. I presume that they made some fixes yesterday, as well as today with our upgrade. If you guys could let me know if you notice any weird anomalies after the upgrade, that would be a great help :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 17:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

The one I posted (upload dir not writeable) was resolved shortly after I posted. Eerie Moss 17:58, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

/usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory

uploaded Image:Rahvu map.jpg last night and on Rahvu I'm getting "Error creating thumbnail: /home/httpd/gwwiki/home/gwwiki/en/bin/ulimit-tvf.sh: line 5: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory". I didn't post this then because the same thing happened after I uploaded Image:Rahvu.jpg but that one resolved itself after a few minutes. Eerie Moss 08:32, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

I replaced your image because it was too dark and it's giving the same thumbail error. "Error creating thumbnail: /home/httpd/gwwiki/home/gwwiki/en/bin/ulimit-tvf.sh: line 5: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory" I also got an error while uploading saying the file was empty and to try again (probably related to the loss of session data errors above). - BeX 04:58, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
Since I am still awake, I am going to send both of these issues to IT right now so they can take a look at the issues before I get to work in the morning. I'm sorry for the issues you guys are encountering, and I just wanted to let you know that I've passed them along. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 09:24, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
lol, it didn't even occur to me to make them turn towards the light.. I will do so in future. On a related note, not sure if it's because of your upload, but now the map image works. Eerie Moss 05:38, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

That was me above, despite being logged in. On a more serious note: that is not my IP address, and it looks like whoever it belongs to is randomly vandalising and correcting articles. Getting errors trying to post this. - BeX 01:48, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
This is definitely peculiar :( I'll pass the issue along as an urgent email when I get into the studio first thing in the morning. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 06:22, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
That is weird for 172.30.35.26. Going through all the articles and history, it has been a mix of minor vandalism with minor helping. Not like it's huge vandalism. Mos of the time it's something small like "Hi" or something along those lines.--Eloc 10:28, 23 May 2007 (EDT)
Hi guys. I've passed this along to the IT team, and they have located the source of the issue. I'll let you know the status of the final fix, as they are working on it now. Thanks for your patience :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 14:54, 23 May 2007 (EDT)

Hi everyone! It seems as though this problem has been identified by IT and resolved. If anyone experiences any further problems, please let me know as soon as possible here or on my talk page so I can pass the details along immediately. Happening again, this time on Gaile's talk page (but only one subheading)! :S - BeX 04:39, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Guild tag = [YourTagHere] does not work?

I have yet to see this actually work on any of the new guild pages. I've seen it as both [TAGHERE] and <nowiki>[TAGHERE]</nowiki> Anyone know what's wrong? - Tarun 16:42, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

You mean the tag-parameter for the {{Guild infobox}}? I don't see a problem with it. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but it shows AFTER the guild name in the top row of the infobox-table. just use:
{{guild infobox
| tag = [iQ]}}

Thanks Corrran, I was actually thinking it would show up in the box below. - Tarun 22:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

User pages listed wrong in categories

My user page User:Lensor is in several categories (PvE, Rangers, Europe,Kurzick). In every one of these categories, the page is listed under "U" (as in "User") in stead of "L" (as in "Lensor"). It does not seem to be a common problem, as only one other User page is listed wrong (User:Xeeron is also listed under "U" in the Kurzick category). This is of course a very minor bug (if it is a bug and not just some weird setting somewhere), but might become annoying as more users are added.

This is not a bug, but a way the categories are designed. You can make it sort other ways by either using a piped link (like this [[Category:Users who favors rangers|Lensor]]) or, if you are using a template that do categories for you, write {{DEFAULTSORT:Lensor}} somewhere in your page. Of course, this works for other things than user pages. - anja talk (contribs) 15:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
If the page is being automatically added to categories via a template, make certain that the template is piped with [[Category:Users who are in some category|{{PAGENAME}}]]. The "PAGENAME" variable will automatically correct the sort. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 15:21, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
UPDATE: The user boxes on your page will already automatically add you to the categories and use the correct sorting (they use the "PAGENAME" variable). But, by also placing the category tags directly on your page, you are over-riding the category tags from the user boxes - and because you didn't pipe them, you land under "U" in the sorts. The simplest solution is to just remove the category tags from your user page, and let the already existing tags in the user boxes handle it for you. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 15:25, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, I understand now. Thank you for clearing that up for me, no bug then :) --Lensor 15:53, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
