Time stamps on edits

Not only are the edits that I'm doing appearing at the wrong time on the recent changes page (out of order, not being posted until well after the edit, etc.), but the time stamp they are being given is actually in the future. The clock at the top of the page is properly in sync with my computer clock, but my edits are being given time times of +3 or so minutes. G R E E N E R 03:10, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I experienced this a day before yesterday. The edit i did on an image, adding a {{user image}}, showed up on my contributions and RC about 5 minutes after the edit was done. Showing that i'd done movefile before adding the tag, when i actually did it before. - J.P.Talk 09:54, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

The clock at the top of the page is made via code that runs on your computer, so obviously it will be in sync with your computer's clock. Does the RC time match the time in the timestamp (+- hours for timezone)? Because if not, it is really weird, otherwise your offset might be wrong in your user settings. poke | talk 19:18, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

The RC clock can alternate between syncing with my computer clock, which I've checked is proper, and running a few minutes ahead. As such, the servers for the wiki can tag an edit as being done after subsequent edits, or before previous ones. I can make the RC clock show an earlier time than the last edit it shows me. Sorry poke, but I had ignored the clock at the top of the page, I just may not have expressed it properly. There are four "times" that seem to be at play.

• The first (the clock a the top) can be ignored as you said.
• The second is the clock shown on the Recent changes page after "Show new changes starting from..." which is the one which alternates between being on my time, and being ahead by 5 minutes.
• The third is the time stamp given to edits, which seems to alternate from being stamped in the future to being stamped in proper UTC time.
• The forth is the chronological edit number, which really can do some weird things when it conflicts with the third time.

Case in point. Take a look at the history of this page You'll see that there have been three edits by Erszebet on Jan 23rd. Comparing the total changes from Oct 3rd to 19:57 on Jan 23rd you get this comparison. Note that it says there are two changes time stamped at 19:55 which somehow occurred later. The number given to the changes keeps the chronological order, even though the time stamps are wrong.

The only sense that I've been able to come to is if there are two servers which are taking turns in handling the edits, with one giving time stamps that are 5 minutes off of the other.

More database errors

Those database errors that people were experiencing seem to have cropped up again. I've been getting the same issue with error messages, doubled-up time stamps, etc. -- Hong 14:39, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

8:00-8:10 UTC 22 March. All pages I visited showing the error. Response time is very slow (sometimes >1 minute before page comes up; my own ping of other sites is good; other wikis respond faster — even ones where I have scripts running).

Specific error is the same on every page (talk, main, feedback, history pages, diffs, previews, edits — doesn't seem to matter):

Oddly enough, I haven't gotten any of the errors on any page in quite a while. I'm not sure if its because of Chrome or just a stroke of luck. I'll test it out with a few other browsers once I'm on my main computer again. -- Traveler (talk) 18:30, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Don't know if it's related, all wiki.guildwars.com pages have been extremely slow the last few days. Takes up to a few minutes for one to complete. I'm getting the exact same message at the bottom of each page. Easy to miss unless you scroll down on a page, or find that very rare short page. Load times are often in the minutes. This has been on and off the last few days. -- Ralmon -- 17:07, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Nope, just... really slow load times... like 5-10 mins just to load the main page 3-5 for any other page.

That might be just you. I have been vocal about load times in the past and I have never seen anything as bad as what you are seeing. At worst, I get a response within 1-2 minutes. If anything loads more quickly for me, it's the main page.

I suspect you are getting the worst of both: something on at your end (router, computer, ISP, anti-virus, browser anti-script stuff, ...) and sometimes a slow-responding wiki.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:29, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Actually i have been having the same problem. super long load times, like 10-15min. It seems to be getting worse every day and its definately not coming from my side cause i had 2 friends test to see if they load faster and theyre having the same problem. Sometimes the page doesnt even load and its only happening to the wiki. youtube and other sites load instantly for me, so my connection is working fine. This has been going on for about 2weeks now. I've never had such bad load times before in my life. Maybe its got something to do with my location? Yeah whats up with the sites? It takes like 5-10 minutes to load now, every other site loads in seconds like normal. It's just gw wiki and the gw 2 site that are really slow.

I wonder what browser people are using while getting the slow load times. It just took me 10 minutes and 50 seconds to load the front page with firefox 4.0, and then I tried IE 8 and it loaded in less than a second. 99.6.219.224 22:54, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Maybe it isn't browser related, but while talking in forums I've heard two other people mention after I brought this up that using a different browser than usual allowed them to load immediately. One of the two reported that their normal browser took 20 minutes to load while starting at the same time. A third person mentioned that they cleared all their history/cookies/etc, and was able to load it immediately (once, before being unable to so much as refresh it). For me, the wiki's load times are better now *knocks on wood*, but the issue seems to come and go through the week. 99.6.219.224 22:57, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Signature Preferences - Bad Input

The time the error happened would have been around the time I posted on the Ask a Wiki Question page, which is (according to the signature) around 13:10 UTC. However, I tried updating my signature several times, so the original time it displayed the error probably would have been between 2-5 minutes earlier.

I just tried it again (the time is 08:39 UTC), with Jioruji Derako's suggestion here, however, it still displays the error. My Support ID Number is 5294648598172261904 -- Lacky 08:42, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Actually, the time that it happened for me is the date that I wrote on here as well. Which was 22:39 of April 4th. At 8:50 I just tried this [[User_talk:Kaisha|<span style="color:navy; font-family:Lucida Calligraphy;">Kaisha</span>]] [[File:User Kaisha Sig.png|link=User_talk:Kaisha]] and I got the bad Input. Yay! So far good! I got, "A confirmation e-mail has been sent to the nominated e-mail address.

Lucky/Unlucky acquisition page

[alt+shift]+[c] - doesn't work across all spaces

There are some wiki keyboard shortcuts that work across the wiki: [alt+shift]+[t] takes you to a talk tab, [alt+shift]+[h] is the history tab, and [alt+shift]+[e] is the edit tab. Some universal shortcuts also work everywhere (e.g. to get to watchlist, recent changes, preferences, my user page, my user talk, etc.).

However, [alt+shift]+[c] only works in Main and Template spaces; it does not work in Guild, Project, or Feedback spaces. It should take you to the primary tab for the article (respectively, the tabs entitled Guild, Project, or Feedback). E-mail user not working

I am trying to send e-mails through the wiki but I am getting an error every time.

"Mail object returned error: error_log(/var/log/httpd/mediawiki.log): failed to open stream: Permission denied"

I am a registered user with a confirmed e-mail address and I have tried using different browsers and disabling internet security programs. My preferences appear to be correct to my knowledge. I tried testing it with my friend too and it wouldn't let me send it, although he checked his e-mail account and it showed up anyways. Why is it saying it's not sending through the wiki but somehow going through directly to e-mail?

Errors sending email pop up from time to time, usually when the wiki is experiencing other slow downs (see other reports above). Mediawiki update broke Landmark lists

Is it just me not adjusting one of my settings, or has the new software broken something in the templates used for them? On every region page, the list of landmarks is either a series of errors or HTML code that hasn't been applied. ~Farlo Talk 19:15, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

I can replicate the problem using {{ #dpl: | category = All explorable areas | category = Shing Jea Island locations }}, {{#dpl: | category = starter weapons }} , and {{#dpl: | category = weapons | titlematch = A% }} . So either all are infoboxes are doing something odd or there's something odd going on with the latest mediawiki and the DPL extension. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:43, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

An amazingly quick reply from A-Net, which kicks ass. You can see the effects yourself: Ascalon, The Jade Sea, Kourna, The Tarnished Coast, and every other region page. No, we requested an update of DPL as this will probably/hopefully fix the problem. So now we can just wait ;)

And about GWWT, it should still work fine when you are using the Monobook skin. It's not compatible to Vector as of now. poke | talk 21:35, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

I just bothered looking at the skins again, I had no idea Vector was the new one Wikipedia used too, it looks sooo much better! :D. However, is the background image missing because it isn't available in Vector or what? I rather liked that design. Yes, it's symptom of the same issue. You can manually setup your feedback page, as Konig and I have done. (If you have a lot of suggestions, I can do it for you. Nothing should happen since you're no longer using the template. Everything should stay the same, and you'll just have a static list unless you revert back to the template when it's fixed. ~Farlo Talk 09:13, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) So, it seems that the dpl issue only pops up for unformatted dpl results. If you apply an explicit formatting on it, it will still show up. Thanks for taking care of that (I had some sandboxes that were unaffected, but I couldn't figure out why).

Landmarks and Suggestions were the biggest areas. The quest lists and anything associated with skills seems to be okay (they always have explicit formatting, albeit hidden behind other templates). I'll keep an eye peeled. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

"Could Not Open Socket"

On most pages where tags and/or external links are involved (in other words, any page with a REcaptcha verification), I cannot seem to edit. I simply get a white page with "Could not open socket." This has happened while attempting a revert at User:Wafflez, as well as trying to tag File:Mineral Springs infusion.jpg and File:MiniatureGhostlyPriestScreens.png. List of Elite Skills

The List of Elite Skills is messed up completely when I look at it. It's very high from top to bottom because all the columns are extremely high and compressed to the left instead of nicely aligned as the other skill lists. There's also a big white area to the right of the columns. Worth mentioning, no other kind of lists/skill lists on the wiki does this to me. Anyone know why? --Jackie 08:42, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
