heroes

how do i us my heroes from nightfall in the origanal guild wars thx

You can only use heroes on the character you unlocked them on, unless you're in PvP. So the only way for you to use your heroes in Prophecies would be to either bring your Prophecies character to Nightfall or Eye of the North, and unlock heroes on the Prophecies character, or to play in Tyria (continent) on your Nightfall character that already unlocked the heroes. When you get into the opening screen of the game, there is an option to reset your password. Select that option and type in your email address. This should send a new password to that email address, which you can use to log into the game. Tame the Junundu

I started the mission but after the mission some of my henchmen entered the sulfur and died off. I went back to the Gate of Desolation to recover them and when I returned to the Junundu I received a message that said that I hadn't tamed them yet. I no longer have the mission on my quest log and can't seem to remember whom I received the quest from. How do I get it back --66.244.113.187 19:26, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

to ride junundu, you need to have done the mission Gate of Desolation. if you have access to that mission, then Laph Longmane will let you in if you talk to him. if you don't meet the requirements for the mission (which is finishing the previous story), then he won't offer that. - Y0_ich_halt 19:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Gate of Desolation is a mission, not a quest, so it won't show up in the quest log. The one you had on your quest log is Crossing the Desolation, which is only designed to get you to Gate of Desolation. Just like all the earlier missions you've done, you start a mission by talking to a particular NPC in a mission outpost, in this case, as mentioned, it's Laph Longmane. -- ab.er.rant 03:55, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

weapon upgrading

My character found a "shocking bramble shortbow of defense". Lightning damage 14-24, damage +14% health > 50%, armor +5. Can this weapon be upgraded with another bowstring or bow grip without losing any of the current mods? What are the "rules" about upgrading weapons or armor in the game? a weapon always consists of four parts: main, prefix, suffix and inscription. main is the base damage with its requirement. for staves it's also the base energy you get. simply put: everything written white. these are fixed for that weapon. the inscription is one of the upgrades. in prophecies and factions, you won't be able to change these, because they're fixed to weapon drops. weapons in nightfall will have a "Inscription:None" in their description if they can contain one of these or "Inscription:(name)" if they already have one. you can salvage them just like prefixes and suffixes. most inscriptions add bonus damage, but there's also some for bonus energy and misc bonuses. if your weapon already has an upgrade and you use another upgrade of that type, then the new one will overwrite the old one. you'll be asked if you're sure before it's replaced. so e.g. if you have a barbed dagger tang and use a shocking dagger tang, then the shocking will replace the barbed one. oh, and sign by typing four tildes: ~~~~ - Y0_ich_halt 22:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Australian connection problems

As l am unable to submit a support ticket to support in either the US or UK due to url time outs. I am posting here as a last resort. Seems that many Australian players are experiencing the same issues. See: http://forums.aanet.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=13569 So two problems. 1. Connection to servers through sing-tel is unreliable. 2. Others are also unable to submit support tickets through the website to even tell GW about it. I've tried US, UK and German servers so far inworld. Sometimes l will get a few hours of decent game play in, then unable for hours. I've run the GW diagnostic test as well as tracerts and using Visual Route. All show timeouts and packet loss at sing-tel Please advise as l dont want to have to spend money to actually phone them in the States to report this problem. I read on www.guildwarsguru.com (which also has a forum thread regarding the same problems in Aus), that GW recently changed servers late September. It certainly hasn't fixed problems here. If anyone can advise, l'd be very grateful

If there is a wide connection problem that affects the whole Australia and it's not a problem in the Guild Wars servers ANet can't fix it. I think the only thing you can do is to contact sing-tel if you know that it's their problem. -- (gem / talk) 08:58, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm not saying it is an aanet problem. I dont think it is directly. It is a sing-tel problem, the servers GW uses to Australia. I've run their diagnostic tool which show such. However, after speaking to a knowledgeable hard core gamer friend who also works in the industry, it may be possible for aanet to bypass singtel servers, especially (see latest entry in forum link above) if people are not having problems on other ISP's. It just would be nice to be able (since it's the way GW has set up it's server routes) to submit a support ticket to GW and have them look at the problem. What is the max armor for a character?

I am playing as a Dervish and have a build with all of the Elemental Spells, such as Armor of Earth, Armor of Mist and Armor of Frost for ideally building up the armors about 100 while also using Avatar of Balthazar. Are they all stacked up with the Armor bonus at the same time? Thank you!

No, armor bonuses only stack to a certain amount. I'm not sure what it is, but i think it is 40 armor. Stacking bonuses can not exceed this amount, but one single skill can. So the bonus from "Save Yourselves!" will not be cut. Any other bonuses won't have effect, though. If there are several bonuses that would exceed the limit, the strongest one will have effect. - Y0_ich_halt 14:22, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

black screen

hello guild wars wiki,

i have bought the game guild wars factions, i've installed it, then i want to play it, so i start the game, then there is a black screen with only al mouse, i can move the mouse over the screen, but the screen is black, if i move with the mouse i can select things in the menu of the game, i can see that if the mouse changes in the screen. so my problem is: the game works, BUT the screen is black, i cant see the menu, what can i do about that, i hope you will know it, and sorry for my bad english, i am from the netherlands,

I had a similar problem, where I could play the game for a period of time, but when I reached a high-graphics area (The Deep, reflective ice caves, etc.), my screen would suddenly freeze. I could move the mouse all around, press enter and type a message, click \ to target nearest, press 2 to use Barrage, but the screen wouldn't move. What I did was decrease the graphics quality, and everything was fixed, by going F11->Graphics then moving the quality bar down to 1/3. But I wouldn't know what to do if the screen didn't show up in the first place. But probably the vid card. Calor - talk 22:22, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

He says he ends up in Lion's Arch after talking with Mhenlo. Lion's Arch means you are in Prophecies. More accuractly you should end up in Lion's Gate, which is an explorable area next to Lion's Arch. You are there...just enter Lion's Arch and proceed from there. When you transfer from continent to continent you transfer to one city in each continent. For Prophecies that city is always Lion's Arch, For Nightfall it's always Kamadan, For Factions it's always Kaineng Center.--Thor79••Talk 05:13, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Interestingly, one of the highest levels of scamming these days is buying "extra" accounts for in-game gold. You see, botters and professional gold sellers have TONS of extra gold, so they use that to buy accounts from unwary players, and then they use the accounts purchased through this means to continue to bot. Faction Points

Looking through WIKI, i have read that with your earned faction points (kurzick or luxson, as well as other rewards, you can donate chucks of 5,000 points to your own GUILD or Alliance. Buying faction?

I was just thinking that we should be able to buy faction!! like pay a set amount for a set amount of faction be it luxon, kurzick, asuran, norn, deldrimor, and ebon guard. I just thought that those supporting those teams in certain events monotarily wise should get benefits. a.k.a. the kurzick-luxon fued, that wouldn't be cheap so those with money who help "support" a side would get faction. just a thought ^^

Changing Region

I had set an account to play in Europe a long time ago because they had favor all the time. Now I want to switch it back to the US servers, but that option is gone in game. I was wondering what I needed to do to switch it back from the Euro server, or is that even still possible? --ND

you can't get a guild wars key free you must buy Prophecies Factions or Nightfall. I completed a mission and is awarded 1000 xp and 1 skill point. But I dont actually received the skill point when I checked. Has this happend to anyone else_

Stop buying things that you don't need. Set yourself some goal to reach and save until you reach them. By normally playing through a game you should have enough money to purchase max lvl armor and weapons. If you want the vanity armor/weapons then you need to be frugal with your money. In high end areas...where mobs are lvl 20+ id all items with an id kit to add additional value at the merchant. sale all blue/purple/white items...and try to sale the gold item drops. If you look at some of the various fansite you will find farming sections with information on how to "farm" certain things...Look for the farming section in the campfire subforum

Unlocking heroes

Game of the Year edition of which campaign? The login screen doesn't matter, it's simply promotional, and a change of scenery. Playing through the storyline in Nightfall and Eye of the North will unlock most heroes. There are two different versions of GW for each campaign. The retail version, and a PVP only verson - available in the online store. The PVP version has all the skills and heroes unlocked at the time you install the game. The retail version does not. Assuming you have the retail version, this allows you to make both PvE and PvP characters. However, many skills and Heroes are "locked" away from your PvP characters. When you talk to a Priest of Balthazar, and unlock a hreo, you have unlocked it for PvP characters only. LeFick 01:48, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Walking Instead of Running

Is there a command to let my character walk instead of always being in running mode?

Identification and salvage.

I know that identifying an item before selling it to a merchant nets you more money than if you sold it unidentified. (This goes for white text items too.) My question is: Does identifying a white item prior to salvaging it nets you more materials? Or does the identification status have no impact on the amount of salvage materials I'd get from a white item? (I'm asking this because I have the gut feeling that higher valued items have a better chance of salvaging into rare crafting materials.)11:38, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I have never noticed a difference between iding a white item and then salvaging vs just plain salvagin a white item without iding it. In my opinion if you plan on salvaging white items...don't id them....to id costs an average of 5g per id. From my experience i have never recieved rare materials from a white item. not saying that you won't just saying that i never have. As far as i can tell the only thing that affects the amount of material that you salvage is the "level" of the item you are salvaging..now if its a blue/purple/gold item and it says Highly Salvagable...then you can probably get a rare material...again..not always...--Coridan 12:16, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

There is a diffrence in salvage amounts in white items too depending on the area from which they drop, ie their general level of value. (pre-Searing whites vs. Kryta whites v. RoF whites for example) I don't think that identifying them to raise the price really affects the salvaging at all, but I don't know for sure. -- (gem / talk) 12:31, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I am certain that white items can salvage into rare crafting materials. I just salvaged a Gothic Defender into a steel ingot, and a Warden vestments into a silk bolt. It seems to me that identifying it ups the chance of getting a rare material, but then again, like I previously said, it's a just a gut feeling, and no one seems to know. To add something else, I also noticed that the rare materials salvaged often depend on their type. Steel ingots seem to drop fairly consistently. Bolts of Silk, bolts of linen, leather squares drop every so often too. However, I've never ever seen jade or amber being salvaged, or Spiritwood planks. Oh I also don't bother salvaging any stuff dropped by mobs under level 20. Identified or not, those salvage into common materials at a pretty high rate, certainly not enough to warrant expert salvaging. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:141.85.0.71 .

Yes, the materials u get from salvaging depends on the value of the item. And yes, what you get depends on what you tried to salvage. It's mostly logical in that metal pieces get you iron or steel, and cloth material gets you cloth or silk. When you select the quest in your quest list you can see a green marker on the large map showing where he is.Most quests in the game have a marker that shows where you need to go. If I recall correctly you will need to travel to another explorable area from the first one to find him, but following the marker will take you there. :) -- (gem / talk) 18:28, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Star of Transference

Well, one thing puzzles me about the consumables trading in EoN. The Star of Transference from Kwat at Rata Sum is very pointless. It costs one skill point to get and you get a Skill point in return so you end up with the same amount of skill points!!! Eye of the North Quest Help

I managed to screw up big somehow in the Primary Norn Quest chains...

I was doing fine until the quest Blood Washes Blood...

I got interuppted, tried to go back, and it wouldn't spawn the bear spirit... So, I went looking for Egil, who summoned the Bear Spirit the first time, and he will talk to me, but doesn't "ally up" and come to the Bear Shrine...

So, I abandoned the quest, thinking I would go back and pick up the quest and start all over. Now, Egil still just talks to me, he doesn't move me forward on the quest at all.

In order to complete "Northern Allies" I need to do "Blood Washes Blood," but I can't seem to find how to pick the quest back up again.

Do I need to abandon "Northern Allies" as well?

Am I just screwed? Please help!

You can go back to the spirit flame alter on your own to respawn the bear to retake it as well. Clear the vicinity of enemies and wait progress bar to fill up to re-light it --Valshia 16:16, 10 October 2007 (UTC).

Multi display systems

Does Guild wars support, or will it ever support, systems with more than one display / graphics adapters? I set up a system the uses 3 displays for flight simulation. It would be nice if the same fuctionality existed in GW, where a pop up box like inventory, or the skill bar could be "undocked" from the main game screen and moved over to a different screen. Or if the game window could be dragged scross more than 1 screen. It does drag, but the aspect ratio is forced. LeFick 20:55, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I can run up to 6 displays at the same time. 3 graphics cards, 2 ports each. I only have table space for 3 at a time right now. On the center screen, runs the GW game, windowed so I can move the mouse from screen to screen. On the left display I run GWW all the time. Actually you can get up to 22 for some of them ;) From 16 onwards, the bonuses come from those +1 attribute weapon mods, statue blessings, necros and eles have skills that boost attributes, Lunar Blessing, Golden Egg, and Grail of Might. Appply Poison vs Barbed Arrows

There's something I'm missing here. Apply Poison lasts longer, can be used with any martial weapon, inflics a more powerful condition( especially if you bring along Toxicity - which, may I add, is a non elite, vs Lacerate its equivalent for bleeding.), while Barbed Arrows only costs 5 less energy. So, is there any reason for Barbed Arrows being easily interruptible, and Apply Poison? A catch that I'm not aware of? Azo 07:01, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Also be aware that the only current (reliable) way to run GW on a Mac is with BootCamp (only works for Intel-based Macs) and Windows. Why is it that was can not craft the same armor as the henchmen have? The only necro armor i like is the vile henchmans armor. It would be nice if it would be avalible to the players also. Would it be that hard to do?

help with ping problems

i have a problem with my ping going up to 34,000ms i usually play at 1200ms i have satellite internet. i was wondering is there anyway i can keep my ping at a lower level

In theory thats true. The NIC operates at a lower level than both the OS and game. The act of the pings being sent/received within that layer is not affected by the graphics load- rather, its when that ping information is sent on up to the application layer, where the game resides. When the game queries for a ping to the point when that request is received by the NIC (and vice versa) is could be adding excessive amounts of time, though probably not enough to warrant 34 seconds of latency. To test to see if its the game, check your ping time in there and then compare it by pinging the same server out of game through a command prompt. If they are relatively equal, its your internet connection. You might also be experiencing rate limiting and extra delay because of the extra game packets being sent out, but that is once again a problem with the connection. Satellite isn't known for its speed, but I assume if thats what you have, its because its one of a very few options. -elviondale (tahlk) 03:36, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I encountered a problem when trying to complete the quest of "The Dawn of Rebellion" which has to be completed in order to proceed in de Ebonguard quests in EotN. The problem is, that I don't know how to cammand him to open teh gate to attack some Charr inside the Doomlore Shrine.
