Log in problems
i cant log in ... there always comes a box that say something like code=058. cane you help me i cant log in ..... there comes a box that say something like an error and code=058..--80.200.2.99 16:52, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- Error code 058 means "Guild Wars was unable to connect to any login servers. This is very likely caused by an Internet routing issue." Make sure that your computer can connect to the internet and that your router or firewall is not for some reason blocking guild wars. The most common reason I've found for this error is a Firewall blocking the connection- TheRave 16:54, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- Is it just me or are we getting this question (code 058) a LOT lately? I wonder what's up with that... --Dragon nataku 03:38, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Can I download the gw.dat file for use with Crossover Mac?
All is working but the dl times are incredibly slooooow.
Thanks--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.73.71.1 (talk).
- To download the whole gw.dat file use the -image command line argument. Also, please sign your comments and also please don't post the same question twice.- TheRave 23:08, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh, thanks. But I can't use the command lines : )
I appreciate the help but mac won't accept the "-image" any more solutions?
-SideLove 70.73.71.1 02:07, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Letting Guild Wars idle at the login screen makes it download files, not sure if it downloads everything. Search one of the forums for a post about using -image on a mac.
- According to the forums I've searched command line parameters should work completely fine with it, in fact you need to use the -windowed command line for it to work. Alternatively, if you have access to a windows PC, you could use the -image command line with the PC then just transfer the .dat file to the mac. That's all I can think of I am afraid.- TheRave 05:58, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- If you have a friend who has Guild Wars, you could always talk them into burning their .DAT file onto a DVD for you, as well. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 14:00, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Gold Weapon Prices
Hey
This Might sound really stupid but i really am clueless....
How do you work out the value of weapons? Ive had a few with good inscriptons high damage and other benfites like + health marksmanship ect and always frll like im bring ripped off when people want to buy them...
If some one could please tell me how you work out the value of them and whats max damage for bows swords ect id be really greatful
Justcuz --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:JustCuz (talk).
- We don't maintain pricing on dropped weapons because they are so variable. I would suggest using some of the Fansites and Auctions as a base pricing. You can also watch the trade chat in larger towns like Kamadan and Lion's Arch. Max damage for bows is 15-28, swords 15-22. That information can be found by visiting the main weapon article Bow Sword. -- Wyn 17:14, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Bringing A Character To Another Campaign
I want to bring my character from Nightfall to Factions but I already completed the quest Mhenlo's Request if I delete my Factions character that completed the quest will I be able to bring my Nightfall character to Factions? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.110.253.196 (talk).
- 1) Please sign your comments (type four ~ thingies at the end), 2) campaign travel is per character. I'm not completely sure about what you're asking, though. The quest Mhenlo's Request is for Prophecies characters to go to Factions. You're asking about taking a Nightfall character to Factions, and asking about deleting a Factions character... Are you asking if your access to the Factions campaign (in general) will be revoked if you delete your Factions-born character? If so, no, you do not need to have a Factions-born character on your account to access the Factions campaign on other characters (like your NF char). Please be aware that travel to Factions/Prophecies is different in Nightfall. You can check the Campaign travel page for more information. --Dragon nataku 04:02, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Slow Downloading
Ever since I got a new computer, I have not been able to load any of my guild war characters as it takes ages: to load 1 character takes tens of thousands of files to load and I don't have the time to wait that long. Is there anything I can do to speed this up?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:89.240.108.218 (talk).
- Your computer has to download all the files it needs to display the graphics. If its taking along time it could be because your internet connection is slow. Have you tried installing from the CD first, as it will contain a fair number of the graphics files. An alternative is to get your computer to download all the graphics in advance so you don't have to wait. To do this you can use the -image command. This can, possibly take a long time, I do a full download with -image overnight when I'm reinstalling.- TheRave 15:45, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Or, if you still have access to the old computer, go grab the "GW.dat" file that's in the Guild Wars program folder, copy that onto a CD or DVD if you can, and stick that into your new computer. That'll retain everything you already downloaded on the old computer, like armor textures, maps, and so on. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 15:50, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

GREENS DROP RATE?
I was just wondering what is the drop rate on greens? i have a n/e and well my toon isnt geared to solo. So i rely on henches and heroes, do i still have a ok chance to score a green or two off a boss?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:66.49.50.251 (talk).
- Once in a blue moon, that's about it. calor (talk) 00:07, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Rarely will you get a green. That's why they're called rare items. Necros can quite easily solo with Mo or De secondary. In all campaigns its fairly easy to change secondary profession and is normally available to do before many of the good green drops.- TheRave 00:13, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Technically, green drops are called "unique" items (usually, they only drop from a particular boss/mob). "Rare" items would refer to gold items... OK, this didn't add any useful info, sorry. :P
- And, yes, green drop are quite hard to get, you might get a bit frustrated (mainly if you are farming a particular boss just for its unique items) due to the extremely low ratio they drop.
- I'd suggest you to get stuff from Collectors. Check list of necromancer collector weapons, for example, for a list of good weapons (you'll need to add upgrades later) that you can get without having to spend that much money (weaponsmith charges 2~5k plus material if you want to craft a weapon).
- Sorry for not answering your question on what's exactly the drop rate of such green weapons, but I myself don't know it either (I just know it's very low and sometimes I kill the same boss 40+ times and no green drops from it, while, other times I get two greens in a row from the same boss).
- If you really want a specific green weapon, you could try trading with other players (yet I don't know how much green are worth).
- Also, there are special weekend events when drop ratio of such green items are doubled (so, instead of taking forever to get one, you'll get it in half-forever). :D --NIN37 10:39, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think their were studies that we did on gwonline into this and we found as a general rule of thumb the green drop rate to be between 1:20 and 1:10 dependent on a whole host of variables. -- Salome 13:18, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Elonian Cartographer-Using Text Mod
I've downloaded Text Mod package and the related Elonia package to enable me to find the missing bits on the map but I cant seem to get it to work. I'm at 92.6% and yes I've covered most of the map but I just need to find those little bits. What colour should the shading be, cause I can't see anything different.
I've opened up Text Mod and placed the software in the program and clicked on run.
I've place the Guild Wars helmet in the bit with the 'to what package do you want it to go to. I believe that to be the exe file but would like clarification.
Sorry to be a bit vague here but I haven't used mods before on GW and would like to know if I'm on the right track.
I have looked at the help on Wikki, but still would appreciate expert help
Many Thanks

- TBH it took me a while to figure out what to do so:
- To start you want TexMod to be in "Package Mode" by clicking on Package Mode in the middle left.
- For "Target Application" you need to find and select your gw.exe by clicking the big folder in the top left.
- Then find and select the package by clicking the little folder in the middle. You can download the packages form this page.
- Select the package and hit run
- Hope that helps, I'll upload a screenshot of what it should look like, standby...Added- TheRave (talk) 12:20, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- The lighter areas in that picture are the ones you haven't mapped yet; you can see the terrain a bit through it. The darker marking would be areas you can't map. The screenshot right there has a few "slivers" of unmapped terrain, if you look closely. That's what you should be looking for. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 15:04, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, the fastest way is to install it from the disc to get the basic files there, then when it starts to copy the large data files, copy Gw.dat from your old computer to the new one (will save you downloading all the updates). It will work without copying Gw.dat if you don't know how to do that too, but it'll have to download the files. Then you can just log-in with your account that you used on your old computer. How do I customize my page?

Lockpicks in EotN
Why is there such a disconnect between the cost of a lockpick and the available treasure value in a "locked chest"? A lockpick costs 1,500 Gold and has a life expectancy of ~1.1 chests, while the "average" value of chest contents is ~300 Gold (approximately 20% of lockpick value). Since neither players (nor their characters) are presumed to be "braindead", what is the point to having "locked chests" in EotN? The economics dictate that these are TOTALLY non-viable "treasures". Why not REDUCE the "chance of destruction" of a lockpick to ~20-25%, thus making a more equitable cost comparison between items (lockpicks and chest treasures)? This same question holds true for ALL other areas as well-- the same relative difference in value is even more pronounced in Cantha, Elona and Tyria---- but in those areas, keys are provided (at an much more equitable value differential).Undouble 02:29, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- My opinion on this is that lockpicks offer you other benefits besides just opening chests. For each lockpick you retain, you earn lucky points which in turn eventually increase the retention percentage of lockpicks. Also, lockpicks are usable on any chest, in any area of the game (with the exception of the Zaishen Chest), so you don't have to carry multiple keys on your character as you move through the game. I have had 10 lockpicks in a row break with one use, and had others open 10 chests before they break. As to your suggestion to reduce the chance of destruction you simply have to raise your luck and treasure hunter titles and this will happen. -- Wyn 04:15, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- Also something to keep in mind; unidentified golds sell for a fairly decent amount, about double then they're worth on average to a merchant, and often worth more then they'd be worth to a normal player. Factor in the chances of one of your chest drops being worth a ton of gold, and the value changes yet again.
- Some people do chest runs; it's profitable enough in the long run, earning you points into Treasure Hunter title, Lucky/Unlucky title tracks (as Wyn pointed out). There's also the Wisdom title track, if you identify every gold item you gain. Along with all these titles you're gaining points towards, you're getting gold items, which are generally worth at least 100-200g to the merchant (even most purple weapons sell for about the same, identified), and if it's a rare skin, perhaps a few thousand (or even hundred thousand) gold to another player. Mods can be salvaged and sold. Lockpicks have that retention rate, which is much better then a key that is guaranteed to only work once. And lockpicks aren't a super-rare drop from mobs in Hard Mode, so a good number of players don't even ever buy lockpicks from the merchants.
- The whole thing's a gamble; most of the time, the lockpick will be worth more then the chest contents. But every so often, it's the other way around. Think of it in terms of casino tokens, except you can beat up the casino workers and occasionally loot free tokens off of them. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 04:26, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Also. Not only are you paying for lucky points, you're also paying for the Wisdom title track with the golds you get. Multiple different reasons to use lockpicks.- Vanguard 06:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

DEVONA IS ACTING FUNKY
Whenever i hire Devona, she doesn't animate(ie walking, attacking) she just glides around. Is this npc glitched or something? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:66.49.50.251 (talk).
- Someone reported the same problem at ArenaNet talk:Art bugs#Devona is (not) broken, deleting and re-downloading gw.dat fixed it. Using the -image command line arguement may also work. -- Gordon Ecker 09:23, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Survivor title in pre-searing Ascalon
can you get the Survivor title in pre-searing Ascalon? --206.255.6.169 15:20, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Nope. There's no way to level up to 20 in Pre-Searing without dying. You'll need to finish leveling in Post-Searing if you want to gain the Survivor title. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 16:04, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Norn Skills
- → moved from HELP:WIKI#Norn Skills
I have a Prophecies/Elementalist level 20 in Eye of the North. I have done the Norm Quest but I do not have the ersan skill, wolfen skill or the raven skills under "skills" If I click on Norm from Hero the icon does not come on the left corner of the screen like it does on my Nightfall Character.I recently joined a Guild that couldn't have anything to do with it could it? I've done these quests with heros and henchmen. 74.229.228.95 14:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Besides the main Norn quests there are separate quests that allow you to equip the Norn form skills on your bar normally. See Hogni_Truthseeker, he's the quest giver. --JonTheMon 14:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- And you seem to be talking about the Norn title as well? Remember that the Norn title is character-based, not account-based, so just because your Nightfall character has the title doesn't mean your Prophecies character has earned it yet. I believe the "icon in the left corner of your screen" would be Heart of the Norn, which you need to collect from Tyr the Skald before it will show up. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 17:43, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
elite skills
can i have more than one elite skill in my skillbar at any given time?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:75.90.95.241 (talk).
- The simple answer is no. The complex answer is no, but if you capture an elite skill and already have an elite skill on your skill bar, then you will have two elite skills on your skill bar while in that zone. calor (talk) 19:50, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- (EC) You can capture a second (or even a third) Elite skill while in an explorable area, but once you re-zone or reach a town, it'll remove anything more then one. You're always restricted to only one Elite skill on your skillbar when creating a build. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 19:52, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- There is also a mesmer skill called Arcane Mimicry which allows you to copy an allies' elite skill for a short period of time.- TheRave (talk) 19:55, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Arcane Echo Works for elites too. Temporarily, of course.- Vanguard 20:01, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- The complex answer is yes, you can have up to four elite skills on your bar at any given time without capping them in one area, using Arcane Mimicry, Arcane Echo, Smooth Criminal, and the elite you brought. ~Shard 20:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

- Take a look at Elite page. :D
- If you capture a second Elite, you'll keep that elite until you rezone (then only the right-most one will remain). --NIN37 20:14, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Vizunah Square Mission
I have finished the Mayhem in the Market, but I do not have a follow-up primary mission in my log. I cannot figure out where to go or atleast how to get there. I am not sure if I am just missing some large thing or what, but I have checked the mission list and asked around and I cannot find anything to help. Pai will tell me what I need to do, but I can't seem to get there or find out how to.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:71.31.239.248 (talk).
- See List of Factions missions and find out what you have and haven't done. calor (talk) 19:13, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I have completed all of the missions prior to that one. I have finished most of the quests as well.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:71.31.239.248 (talk).
- Mayhem in the Market (Primary quest) -> Vizunah Square (Mission)
- If you've completed Mayhem in the Market, you'll just have to do the 3rd Mission, Vizunah Square (get into the outpost and hit "Enter Mission" button bellow party window).
- After beating that mission, you'll find yourself at Dragon's Throat, where you'll need to get Finding The Oracle to continue storyline.

Running Problem
Hiya,
When I was introduced to GW, someone jumped me through to the towns/outposts without me having to walk to them. I am now introducing another player but everytime I try to take them to a town that is on my map but not on theirs, it won't let me. Why is this?
Thanks, Sarah--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:80.229.186.208 (talk).
- Which campaign are you taking your friend through? In Factions a lot of the towns require a character to play through the game to get access to towns. In general the other two campaigns have no requirements for access to towns.- TheRave (talk) 22:05, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
This is just Prophecies. I have gone to all the major towns. Just to clarify - If I add him to my party and go to map then try and map jump to a town he's never visited, it says something like a member of your party does not have this town on his map, do you still want to go there? How can I get him to these towns on my map?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:80.229.186.208 (talk).
- Ahh ok. You can't "map-travel" to a town unless every party member has been there. The only way to get your friend there is to "run" him/her.- TheRave (talk) 22:11, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Ah ok so my mentor must have run these places for me, not map jumped me into them. Thank you! Very useful!--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:80.229.186.208 (talk).

( code = 058 )
can anyone help me ?--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:81.164.89.61 (talk).
- The Code 58 is described as "Guild Wars was unable to connect to any login servers. This is very likely caused by an Internet routing issue.". The wiki page says "The problem may be on your system (firewall, router, modem, etc.)". Make sure Guild Wars isn't being blocked by your firewall and/or router.- TheRave (talk) 23:39, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

connection
my guild wars is stuck on connecting to arenanet --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:208.1.104.78 (talk).
- First, please sign your comments with ~~~~. Second, could you please be a little more specific? Is it stuck on the loading screen? Is this the first time you're running GW, or have you successfully connected in the past? Are you getting any specific error messages? --tero 17:52, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- The "Connecting to Arenanet" message would be on the client loading screen, before the game loads up. It's probably a firewall issue - check to make sure your firewall isn't blocking guild wars from connecting to the internet. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 18:39, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

encrypted charr war plans??????
While traveling thru areas of grothmar wardowns (while doing the Against the Charr qwests) I keep getting encrypted charr war plans. Does anyone know where I can get a decryptor? Do I even need a decryptor? They can't be sold and I don't know that there is any certain NPC looking for them.I've tried Boy Scout and Girl Scout Decryption techniques, FBI, CIA, NSA and even some I gained from a few insane asylum resident's I know and nothing is working. I tried searching wiki and FAQ's but to no avail. Surely I can't be the only one with this qwestion. Anyone with an answer or some major light that can be shed on this subject would be greatly appreciated.--24.207.183.190 20:39, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- The Encrypted Charr Battle Plans page should be able to answer everything you need to know about the plans and how to use them.- TheRave (talk) 20:40, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
guild wars trial
how do I obtain a guild wars free trial access key?--121.72.175.72 02:17, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- I don't belive those are available anymore, due to the abuse of easy to access spamming accounts. -- Wandering Traveler 02:22, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
