Reseting the Game
Can I reset the whole of my account?
Can I reset the whole of my game? --Dan--78.149.50.35 18:52, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Basic answer is no. Unlocked items are account based and held on Anet's servers, so those will not go back. You can empty your storage and delete your characters, which is as close to resetting as I imagine one can get. G R E E N E R 19:05, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ohhh...dang, ok then, thanks for the reply anyways. --Dan--

Chinese New Year Quests
I have a level 3 Mesmer native to factions but I am unable to get any of the festival quests in the Monastery. Does anyone know why I can't get these quests? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.171.76.100 (talk).
- Due to previous farming by players, a character must be at least level 5 in order to obtain the quests. Details of the event can be found at Canthan New Year. G R E E N E R 07:58, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Regarding Armor
I had Elonian Armor on my Paragon and I upgraded it to Elite Sunspear armor but instead of being gold and white it is grey and white! Isn't it supposed to be "Gold" instead of "Grey"? Any idea what is going on? Thanks 99.177.254.78 21:56, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- Is it a PvP-only paragon? Or a PvE paragon? — Raine Valen 22:06, 8 Feb 2011 (UTC)
- Regarding my previous question about my Paragons Armor-It is a PVE Paragon with Elite Sunspear Armor. I did mission to get armor infused-Do I have to delete the old armor for it to be Gold?
- Thanks 99.177.254.78 22:16, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- Nearly all armours come pre-dyed as grey. Find a dye trader, purchase what you wish, et voila. To get "gold", I would recommend trying a mix of yellow and silver.
- Infusion is added onto individual armour pieces. Any new pieces that you have purchased are not infused until you satisfy a Seer's desire. G R E E N E R 22:22, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- If you want it to be the same color as the armor you got during character creation then plain old Yellow Dye will suffice. Feel free to experiment though. You can combine any combination of 4 colors and see a preview of what your armor looks like before you actually use up your dye vials. — Poki#3 (talk) 20:31, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Voltaic Spear
Hello, does anyone know why the voltaic spear is so difficult to get from the Chest in Verdant Cascades? (VSF) Because I have been trying and farming for it for almost 47 times! Why is it almost impossible to get??? Please answer thank you.99.252.163.223 00:13, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- Because it has a low drop rate. Some items are just rare. That's part of the reason they're so sought after and expensive. — Poki#3 (talk) 00:49, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
pet naming
can you name a hero's pet? if so how????????????????
- No, hero pets cannot be renamed. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:29, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
well is it possible to change playful black wolf into just black wolf......?
- No. There's no command to alter hero pet names. And for player pets, your choice is to name the pet, or use the default name. And higher level pets will, by default, show their evolution. So, to change Playful Black Wolf to Black Wolf (for a player pet), you could use /petname Black Wolf (which will get interesting if you give up the wolf and then charm a White Moa) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:30, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Blacktide Den
After completing the first mission it gave me one sword instead of two so do I do the same mission again?
- Missions always have bonus objectives that you can, but don't have to do. If you want to do the bonus, you have to do the mission again. See Blacktide Den for details about the bonus if you're having trouble. — Poki#3 (talk) 03:41, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
But now it wont tell me what to do next because I just have one sword on the emblem so what do I do because I completed the quest once and now I dont have any primary objectives.--68.12.53.2 22:31, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Blacktide Den is a mission, meaning it is repeatable. Go to the mission outpost and talk to the NPC with the shield and two swords over their head. He will start the mission and you will be able to re-try it for the bonus. --'Mai Yi' talk 22:38, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- As for continuing the story, after Blacktide Den you should talk to Castellan Puuba in Sunspear Great Hall. He'll give you the quest The Iron Truth. You only need to finish a mission to continue the story. You don't need to do any bonuses. — Poki#3 (talk) 23:53, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
2 accounts at same time
How do u run 2 accounts at the same time on the same computer? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.195.72.42 (talk • contribs) at 17:41, 13 February 2011 (UTC).
- There are two methods for running GW simultaneously from one machine:
- Use virtual machine (which turns your single computer into two).
- Use a third-party tool to bypass the bit of code that prevents running two copies of
gw.exe
- ANet does not support the use of third-party software for any reason. (Neither have they banned anyone solely for using it to run GW twice). There are three well-known tools:
- GWx2 (and its daughter app, GWxN)
- Maddy's mult-launcher
- Guild Wars multi-launcher. (Different from Maddy's)
- GWx2/xN is the oldest; it's reliable, hosted on a site that has been trojan-free for ages, and has a well-known checksum. Maddy's is well-used (I dislike it because it does or used to do some odd things when GW.exe gets updated). GWML is the newest, but is also used widely. It is the only one of the three that is open source and hosted on a well-known code repository.
- If you can't find the links via Google, let us know. Whichever you choose, be careful to check the file size/creation date (and, ideally, the checksum). Evil-doers love to find unprotected EXEs and insert malicious code. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:55, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I've already started the game but want to change the difficulty mode.
Hi, When I initially installed the game, it asked what difficulty mode I wanted to play in. I chose "normal" and all was fine until I got to lvl 20 but now I'm finding the game to be impossible because it's too difficult. I'm getting so frustrated, it's ruining the game for me. I've tried getting better armor, I've tried reworking my hero skills and getting them better armor but we just keep dying on quests. Other lvl 20 players laugh and say that the quest was easy for them. But I fail to see the humor. I'm a new player, I've only had the game about a month but I'm playing a lvl 20 status that is designed for lvl 20 players who are hard core and have been playing the game at lvl 20 for years. I personally think the leveling cap sucks because of that one reason among others but I won't get into a vent. My question is, can I change the difficulty mode to Easy now that I'm already playing the game and at level 20? Or will I have to delete all my characters, reinstall the game and start all over again? PS. I think I hit the signature button but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. Sorry if I didn't. If I didn't please, in very simple terms, tell me how I do it. Thanks. Thank you for your help. :D--WarriorJackie 18:21, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- There is no such thing as a difficulty level. If you're having problems with your builds, try checking out pvx.wikia.com. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.191.14.170 (talk • contribs) at 18:30, 13 February 2011 (UTC).
- Well in the beginning you are stuck on normal mode and after finishing the campain you can play hard mode (thats it no easy mode) but if you are having problems it is probably becose of some things that are not finished/upgraded/unlocked for you i will list several things for you that you shoud check out for making the game alot easyer.
- 1)getting the extra attributes from quests these quests are for the given campains (do the one's for your campain)
- 2) try getting maximum armor
- Naloj has some good advice. However, I don't think that PvX is going to be helpful...yet. That site collects only what they see as optimal builds and those don't necessarily work for everyone. It also assumes a level of knowledge that beginners and journeyman players don't often have.
- I found the game extremely challenging when I first started and I despaired of ever reaching a point where anything was easy. I was lucky and received some early advice in-game that helped. But that advice was geared to what I was doing...so it might help if you could provide some more information. Pick one of your characters and let us know the profession, the build(s) you use (code or skills+attributes), the runes and insignias on your character and heroes. Also: are any of the missions/quests easy for you? (Letting us know about one of them might be helpful for gauging your current situation.) Which mission/quest would you like to master next? (And where in it are you getting stuck?)
- I've seen many people move from frustration to having fun again...and it's always a result of looking at the game differently. (And it will happen throughout your game play.) Hang in there. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:51, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I'm a Warrior. I chose Elemist as a second profession but I don't use it because it's hard to cast spells that take a few seconds to work, when you're up close and personal with the enemies. I'm at lvl 12 for hammer skills, 11 stregnth, and I have, I think about 6 or 7 tactics. My favorite skills are "Frenzy", "Ebon Vanguard Assasinator support", "resurrection signet" for when my healer dies, "Healing Signet", "Sprint" to try to run past a hoard of enemies I don't want to deal with while traveling, "Endure Pain" which gives me about 250 more health points, I only have about 550 life without it. "Staggering Blow" (I switch this skill slot up with other skills depending on what the quest or mission fight seems to call for.) and "Hammer Bash".
Armor:80 I've added a bunch of stuff on it but I forget what..they add energy and health and tactics and hammer skills. I'm saving for better armor, it's really expensive.
What you wrote so far is helpful. I don't think I've done any of those quests yet. I will definitely look into it.
What gets me is when there are tons of enemies at once. Like with the Kessex Peak quest (Prophecies) I got from the Skill guy at Lion's Arch. I get near the point I'm supposed to on the map but then I'm bombarded with like 50 enemies at once and they all have magic and minions and spirits on top of their high number. The same thing with the Eye of the North quest where I have to fight off all those horse guys at once, (In defense of the Eye) I'm okay for the first two waves of them but the third wave always manages to kill everyone. I tried staying near the door with my henches but that didn't work. So, now I'm going to try to go to the far side and try to lure them into fighting me a little at a time instead of being bombarded by all of them all at once. Another quest would be "And a hero that leads them" (Nightfall, I think) when you go into that place and you're attacked by all those enemies at once. I've tried stradegy where I enter through another gate so I can pick them off a little at a time but when I get to that Asura woman with all those magical powers and her protectors, forget it. Also, that guy I have to fight solo, mano nano, or something like that... pulverizes me. I'm okay with other stuff but I'm stuck on those missions. And forget the championship thing on the PvP islands because I get slaughtered there, too. I'm allowed like 6 fighters and I go in to fight and they have 6 fighters (warriors) too but then they also have 6 vicious wolves...and we didn't get past the wolves...but I've only tried that one once. I'm going to try it again, now that I know what to expect. I try different heroes with different skills. I like fighters, one on one combats who will fight side by side with me, a couple of healers or a healer and a monk and one or two henches who specialize in hexes and spells. Necro and ritualists being my favorite of them because they can conjure up minions, spirits and such to help. Being a warrior is tough. But I'm a hands on person and like getting into the thick of it instead of standing afar and waving a wand. I've tried characters like that and they're okay but I really miss being able to pound someone with a hammer or cutting them up with a sword. In role playing games I always play warrior so I'm use to it. But someone said my armor wasn't good enough for being a warrior, especially for being a warrior. They said I have to max it out and were kind enough to offer me gold coins to help purchase some new gear but I want to do it myself. So, I'm going around trying to get a lot of money together. Is there anything else you need to know? I feel like I'm writing too much.--WarriorJackie 19:57, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- Well, have you completed the Ascension so you can change your secondary profession? As for PvX, there are builds available there for all sorts of situations. There are some areas of the game that you will simply find it much better to find another player or players to team with to complete. There is nothing in this game that can't be completed with a level 20 character if you plan it properly (in normal mode, or hard mode). -- Wyn talk 20:03, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- Quick suggestion... Be careful with Frenzy and Healing Signet as they will leave you very vulnerable. Also, it is common to have problems when surrounded by 50 enemies. Also also, make sure you dont lower your health too much through the use of runes. --'Mai Yi' talk 20:05, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- It sounds like you are playing very defensively. It's generally better to rely on your healers and protectors for most of that. You should usually have 2 purely defensive characters (usually monks, often a healer and a protector) in a party of 8. I wouldn't recommend sprint for pve, endure pain is a poor skill, frenzy is too dangerous for pve, you don't need a res, and you should have several attack skills that add damage. Unlock as many skills as possible, remember your heroes need the choices as much as you do. We have a Guide to playing as a warrior page, too. Manifold 20:21, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
- You also don't have an elite skill equipped. "I try different heroes with different skills. Necro and ritualists being my favorite of them because they can conjure up minions, spirits and such to help." It sounds like you are bringing too many melee henchmen/heroes and not enough spellcasters for spell-based damage. --Silver Edge 21:35, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I didn't know all these little tricks. Thank you. I have found a place to change my second profession. I'm not sure what I'll try. I think I'm going to go for monk because of the healing capabilities. All too often I'm at the tail end of a fight with a large group of enemies. I'm down to the last five enemies and I get wasted. The healer who is still alive is so busy fighting for their lives, they can't save me and they don't have the fighting power to kill off the rest of the enemies. Which is why I play defensively and I like to count on my own healing capabilities. I die way too often when I don't and I lose a lot of health percentage because of it. But I didn't realize Frenzy, healing signet and the Endure pain were bad skills. I'll have to rework everything. I think I'll definitely chose monk as my second profession since those skill healing and health skills seem to be no good. I'll add on more attack skills for damage and start picking more spell casters. Those hexes are pretty powerful and eat up life\health like crazy, I'll be sure to pick at least three of them, another fighter and a healer and maybe a ranger, too , if I'm allowed that many.
I've tried playing with other players but they have a weird way of disappearing in the middle of a quest or mission. They sign off, let me and my henches do all the work and then they get the credit and monies I've worked for as they took a vacation. It's happened to me too many times. Plus, other players tend to go way too fast for me. I think things out. I use strategy. I wait for the people in my group after a big fight so they can regain their health and energy points before the next round of fighting. I've had players just go and keep going even when the rest of us are way behind, looking at the wiki map to find directions or picking up our booty prizes and I say "wait!!!" but they just keep going. I'm looking for a person or people I click with but so far I haven't found any. --WarriorJackie 03:21, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
I checked out the article and I guess it was a nice way of saying choosing monk as my second profession is a sucky one. But if the healing signet is a bad skill, as is the Endure pain than how am I supposed to heal myself when my healer is busy fighting for their lives?
- I'm not necessarily saying healing signet or any other heal is a waste of a skill slot, but you usually won't need a self-heal in normal mode with a minion master and/or spirit spammer with some defensive skills mixed into your party (A ward here, a block skill there, some knockdowns, some interrupts, maybe daze/blind/weakness, etc). Part of the difficulty of being a new player is not knowing the areas very well, too. There are places you'll be pretty useless without major hex removal, and other places with no hexes at all, for example. Pay attention to what is killing you and see if you can find a way to counter it. Manifold 19:17, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

New Dervish update Heroes
Was noticing that Mobs, NPC'S, and Bosses were listed as updated AI to deal with the dervish update.. Heroes are not listed with updated AI. and I among other have noticed that Derv Heroes will not use alot of the new skills. Mystic Vigor and Mystic Sandstorm are two I have noted they wont touch. I am wondering if heroes havent gotten updated AI as of yet or is intentional that heroes wont use certain Flash Enchantments, and Mystic Sandstorm is listed as a Spell with Adrenaline costs. Could this be why they dont get used. I would like to know if they are gonna update the hero AI to deal with the skill changes anytime soon, as it is now Derv Heroes are nearly useless unless you build them as another profession. Can we find out if they will be fixed so we can use them again? 69.242.196.134 22:50, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

.dat corruption
Wikilliterate friend is having trouble with the .dat file. It keeps repairing itself almost once a week, which kind of sucks. His other data isn't getting corrupted, so I assume it isn't the HDD. Are there any other reasons it could be falling apart? –Jette 05:17, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
- I find if a use an advanced defrag tool (to place large, oft-used files separately from small ones), that I get fewer repair messages. The dat file is so big, it's easy to get fragmented. I also find using -update helps. (I have plenty of space on the drive, but there's a lot of file swaps going on.) They could also use the -update option proactively, so that they get to choose when to suffer a long wait. Let me know if you find something that works better (I'd like to eliminate rather than reduce the problem). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:10, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

- Why can't you use Camtasia? Other programs that can record that I know of are FRAPS (not free) and Xfire (Free, it's an instant messengering program for gamers that has a record feature). I'd recommend buying Fraps, but keep in mind that recording video games is a big strain on your processor and hard drive (a minute long video can be well over a few gigabytes big.) — Poki#3 (talk) 20:43, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

- Camtasia Studio isn't really made for recording games. It's a program for recording the desktop, making presentations, stuff like that. Try switching Guild Wars into Windowed mode in the options. If that doesn't help then there's probably nothing you can do. Camtasia may just not record DirectX output properly. You'll have to look into alternatives like FRAPS in that case.

Razah Recruitment Broken?
Not sure if anyone has seen this yet or not, but it appears as though Razah and the guardians are no longer spawning in the Heart of Abbadon. I checked the wiki page for his recruitment and didn't see anything stipulating that you could only get him once per account or anything like that.
Maybe broken in a recent update? Or, can you only get him once? --184.151.63.255 20:08, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- You can get him for each character. Are you sure that you have the acquisition quest active (Finding a Purpose)? It is unlikely that any of the recent updates affected this quest (since they didn't involve the Realm of Torment, Ritualists, or heroes generally). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:56, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

- The highest level a player can reach is level 20. Guild Wars is designed to develop the player's skill rather than the characters strengths. This is done by modifying your skill bar and attributes to fit the upcoming battles, as well as the heroes and henchmen you choose to come with you. Enchantment Issues
I haven't really played much in the past year, and I'm trying to get back into it now. However, I seem to have an issue with my heroes casting "maintained" enchantments on me in PvE. Was there some sort of update? I've tried with different heroes and different professions and spells, but the enchantments don't stick. They end immediately. Am I missing something? 68.38.185.255 16:01, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Heroes don't generally use maintained enchantments very well, your best bet is to disable them (shift-click) and manage them yourself. See the hero behavior article for more details. -- FreedomBound 16:03, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
