is it just me or is /giveup missing from the page??

I kinda miss having a /curtsy (or /curtsey) emote for the females to used instead of /bow :)

Grouped the emotes into different categories (character emote, information and misc) as believe that is more useful than just a simple alphabetical list. Also, hesitated whether to include details (or better yet links) about commands which have "special" purposes, ie, like /kneel (which is used to trigger various things), comments? --Wolfie 18:21, 20 February 2007 (PST)

I'd say linking to the page on resurrection shrines (under /kneel) is certainly worth doing, new players may not be aware of the benefits that can be obtained from kneeling at shrines... --BramStoker 20:07, 23 February 2007 (EST)

The last revision, by User:Drago brought copyvio text over from GWiki. To keep it from being accessible, we need to take the last revision, make it into a new page at /temp, and delete this whole page. QQ copyvio ftl Pepe talk 21:15, 2 March 2007 (EST)

International versions[edit]

Is there a reason to include them for an English GWW? -Smurf User Smurf.png 20:36, 6 April 2007 (EDT)

Probably not, but as I was cleaning up the article I noticed that there were a lot of foreign-language emotes listed as English emotes (aide, encourage, incline, ok, pardon, reverence), and I thought rather than just deleting them I should explain their origin. --Mike O'Brien 21:59, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
As they work for you, no matter what language you use, I see no reason not to keep them myself. --Rainith 22:05, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
Then should we also include the Chinese, Japaneses, and Korean versions? -Smurf User Smurf.png 22:29, 6 April 2007 (EDT)
I wouldn't worry about adding them for the simple reason that they can't be typed by your keyboard if your language is set English. 90% of these international ones can (more if you could enter alt+123 type ascii characters into the game, but IIRC you can't do that). --Rainith 00:00, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

Synchronizing[edit]

I think we should add a section to here about how you can synchronize emotes with other people by using an asterisk i.e. /dance * and it will wait a few seconds, then synchronize you with anyone else who typed that same emote within the past few second. I'm not too sure how it actually works or anything, just that it's nice for screenshots, so could anyobdy add this? Morrock 16:42, 15 April 2007 (EDT) Uh... never mind, musta missed that.

This does actually work you know. On the halloween events, when you get these tonics that turn you into a halloween ghost thingy, me and my friends always gather in kamadan and start synchro dancing as these ghosts =) --84.69.43.167 14:03, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Strange Emote[edit]

User Defx Peaches.jpg can someone explain this? --Defx 19:19, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Maybe your chat-width is so small that it automatically wraps after a specific number of spaces. Example:
User Name: ke ke                                 Peaches is using Shoes on Heroes Ascent!

Nah there are spaces in it so that shouldnt happen. But thats still cool. --- Ressmonkey (talk) 02:29, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
There is a unique symbol that seems to be a space but it isn't ... remember the stars and geometic symbols ? its one of these, and if you enter enough, the rest is at the next line. the only way to prove this, is the fast language-switch (right ctrl). /balla emote[edit]

you can use /balla emote to /dance its kinda funny my guild mate found that out. --76.29.129.133 01:45, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

The reason you can use /balla is because it is italian for dance as you can find here: Localized commands and emotes#Emotes and any of the things that you find on that page will work ingame --The Great Tomato The Great Tomato 16:59, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

More Emotes?[edit]

I would love a few more emotes... I'm part of a roleplaying group and we use the current ones all the time. We could really use one for /cry. Also for /sleep, where the character lies down, or /fallover where you can trigger a knockdown.

Also, maybe it would be possible to have some emotes where characters interact with other characters? Like maybe one for /hug where you type in a different character's name afterwards (i.e. '/hug Albinorae') and your character will run over to hug the (not always appreciative!) other character.

~ Albinorae 15:11, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

They'd be awesome. Long have I been desperate for a /cry or /sob emote for those times when ":(" just doesn't cut it. — Hyperion // talk 00:25, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

the hug emote would be cool, but it would lead to lots of e-rape lol

/away?[edit]

I would definetly like to see the first three though84.66.59.33 16:25, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

You can set "Away" "Offline" and "Do Not Disturb" in the friends window Player Status box. Then when another player messages you, they get the reply that: "<player> may not have heard you, as the player status is set to <current status>". An emote for those would not be effective for a whisper reply as a whisper can come from other zones, or other districts where that player can't see you. If there is a player anoying you in the same zone, you have /AFK which causes your player to sit, and /shoo which would be about the same a get away. LeFick 14:00, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

You Got Served![edit]

(Please note, though, that no emote causes death or NPCs to attack, and any deaths induced by the Mad King do not count towards your death count/Survival title track).

Alive but Dead[edit]

At first I have to mention that I'm running GuildWars on a high-end computer and with a very good internet connection while most of my friends have very slo ones. If the synchronization isn't perfect and the described situation is yours, the following may happen:

  • Type /resign before you zone
  • Hit Enter as soons as you hear sounds (you usually hear before you see)
  • You and your heroes (if taken with you) will begin to die as the second and maybe third fastest player will
  • The typical message shows up explaining that your group has failed
  • The third or forth fastest player arrives - alive.
  • The party leader will not be able to hit the "Return-to-outpost" button as it does not show up.
  • The group is not considered to have failed.
  • All active players may re-resign with no effect
  • The players that are still alive may try to resurrect the dead ones resulting in the resurrected ones' instant death (maybe they are not even considered alive by the game)

I wonder if the still alive players can re-zone (it happened not that often) and if all former members are still in the group. Noctarch 02:38, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Emotes[edit]

Some special things that could be used:

  • /shrink - Make your character shrink to mini size
  • /grow - Make your character grow from mini size to normal size
  • /goto (placenamehere)- Teleport to places without using the map

Some emotes things that could be used:

  • /drink - Make your character mime drinking a drink
  • /animal - Act like a random animal

what does /roll do?[edit]

I would like to see a decent description of what the purpose of /roll is. Is it connected to any game mechanics? --89.247.242.55 10:35, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

If you type /roll you would add a number like 1,2,6,10,100 (eg. /roll 10) then it will say (enter name here) rolled a 10 die he got (number from 1-10 depending on which number you chose so it could be 1-100 or 1-6) i believe thats it but a might be a little off in how the words exactly go. - Giant Nuker 11:06, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Yer its to simulate rollign a dice with many sides, or in another way, a random number generator. if you use the command /roll 100 you will get a return of a random number between 1 and 100 (including 1 and 100) so you can simulate certain outcomes... an egsample would be to /roll 2 which would give a result of 1 or 2... which would be the same outcome as flipping a coin... Some people use this to predetermine game results MrPaladin 12:24, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Back before MMOs had auto-loot-assignment, e.g. early Everquest, /roll was used to determine who got loot fairly frequently, in PUGs and other situations that didn't call for DKP or w/e (I didn't even hear about DKP until after I left EQ, heh). It might have just made its way into this game because it was something MMO people were used to having. --Star Weaver 13:54, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Esc[edit]

While under the effects of a tonic or just being normal, when you type /sit and then hit Esc on your keyboard, you do an action. If your normal, you stand up. If your a bunny you fall over and die. If your a phantom, you make a taunting gesture. If your a rainbow pheionx you fall over and die. If you are a golem of some sort, you reshape yourself. Etc....

Maybe metion this.

your on the right track with this, currently each tonic makes mention of it... I will add some wording to the top near the dervish avatars to include the different emotes that changing form can give access too... MrPaladin talk 16:55, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Emotes with Weapons[edit]

This might seem kinda random, but I know that some emotes will not cause weapons to vanish when they are used. From what I have heard (hearsay, I know) this varies depending on the character proffession and gender. The most noticeable of these is the Male Necormancer /dance emote. I also heard somewhere that the dervish is rife with errors like these, though I have no idea if that's true or not. Is this worth mentioning anywhere or exploring? Or is it simply a bug? --User Timeoffire45 sig.jpg Timeoffire45 19:26, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

You could mention some emotes don't cause weapons to disappear, sure. You mean that you can't see it in the chat window or you can't see yourself physically doing them? By the latter, I mean that your character avatar disappears when you do said emotes. Or is it something different? We need more information before we can try to give you an good answer. --User Timeoffire45 sig.jpg Timeoffire45 rawr 06:31, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for replying, well I just type some emotes (such as /sit) and my screen moves down, but I see the character standing upright. Ninjas In The Sky 13:12, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Are you in a form (ie, using a tonic) while doing this? Does this happen with only these emotes? Also, is this only happening in certain outposts, while wearing certain armors, in certain campaigns, or anything remarkable? Some campaigns (namely, eye of the north and nightfall, their armors, weapons, outposts, etc.) use a slightly different driver (dx9 instead of dx8) which can--with certain operating systems (Vista being the most noticable)--cause your graphics to glitch. Regardless, if you're not in a form, I would recommend sending a ticket to support. --User Timeoffire45 sig.jpg Timeoffire45 rawr 08:01, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
No, I'm not using a form, noticed this happen only with the mesmer and monk professions, the emotes that don't work are /sit , /roll , /jump (there may be more). Operating system is Windows XP Professional 2002. Thanks again. Ninjas In The Sky 20:08, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Guild wars is dying. This is so bullshit. And they know its dying too. Thats why their trying advertise for a new game. Just so they can make more of a profit by transfering all the people who spent money on the game to a whole other game where they hope they'll spend just as much money or more. But I don't think its ArenaNet's fault. I think NCSoft is pushing this on them. This is like corruption of Guild Wars. Lol. Wow.
I joked about a year or two ago saying while we had the tonic circus complete with fireworks in every town 24/7 at least Guild Wars isn't one of those games where everyone is running around with angel wings or devil wings. I really didn't think they'd sink that low. How wrong I was. I think this is the official DEAD stamp for an online game. Tonics jumped the shark but this festering idea is what nailed the coffin shut. 58.110.141.77 15:38, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
