With Poison Tip Signet being added soon, I've noticed the lack of use for this skill. Though the duration of the poison is very long, I wouldn't mind seeing the poison duration shortened, but a tiny damage bonus when hitting an already poisoned foe. Maybe people would start using it then. Saph 20:20, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Nobody uses this anyway. My personal attitude to this skill has always been, "Okay, you poison them, great. Now your elite is useless." As you say, if it had bonus damage it would be better, but as it is there's no point taking this over Apply if you want to spread poison. Arshay Duskbrow 21:03, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Only having 1 recharge, this skill excels in poison spreading builds. Combine with Barbed Arrows = win. Dark Morphon 10:50, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Burning Arrow + Apply Poison is better practically. No, it is, really. — Skuld 10:59, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
That's for ganking, this is for degen spreading. Dark Morphon 11:10, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Which blows. Large amount of energy spent, all your time spent spamming conditions.. etc. — Skuld 15:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
This cant be compared to burning arrow now when that signet makes it useless, also apply poison have always been better than this. There are alot of skills that cause poison or health degeneration over 4, 8 health loss each second isnt worth an elite slot.--Cursed Angel 17:45, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
This is probably obvious at this point, but it seems like adding some + damage and some type of drawback(reduce duration, longer recharge, higher energy, etc) might make this skill viable again. It feels like this skill is just being ignored. 162.27.9.20 23:19, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Has its place but needs a little buff yeah. Dark Morphon(contribs) 14:30, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
i agree, this needs a buff...i'd suggest extra damage, faster flight time or maybe even AoE poison. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 14:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
This skill is mostly obsolete now, it still has fairly efficient uses but mainly has been forgotten. Lost-Blue 23:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Resetting indent - Also, unblockable might be a good option to make this a less worthless skill. And a tiny damage bonus (if not on already poisoned foes only), or 1 second activation on top of that. Saphatorael 18:31, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

unblockable just encourages R-spike, and that would make Izzy super nerf this to the point it causes poison for 1 sec at 12 wilderness and is unblockable. @Skuld, lrn2play. Spreading conditions is a good way to support your team, since rangers can only do that or interrupt. @Dark Morphon, this skill is inferior to apply poison. With this skill it would take 40 energy before expertise to get poison on all foes. With apply poison, it is 15. And if you say this lasts longer, you can attack multiple times under apply poison. Apply poison is just superior to this skill, it is better at the cost of being a preparation (but most other preparations suck anyway) and not being elite. Oh wait, not being elite is a good thing.Crimmastermind 21:14, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

I have a ranger, and I spent a while struggling with what build to use. I tried many combinations of skills. Among these, I tried Poison Arrow with Barbed Arrows (I liked that one). If a ranger takes Burning Arrow with Apply Poison, it has 5 seconds of 11 health-degeneration, followed by 11 seconds of 4 health-degeneration (assuming this ranger has 16 Wilderness Survival); also consider the 10 mana-cost of Burning Arrow. That's impractical, and when you throw Poison Tip Signet into the snake pit you get about 15 seconds of poison every 8 seconds. But with Poison Arrow and Barbed Arrows, you can inflict 7 health-degeneration with every attack (Poison Arrow is very easy to spam) and you don't have to worry about having a slow recharge on your poison. Sure, you get less health-degeneration this way, but it is more practical in actual combat (my own experience, not an opinion), because you aren't spending a full second in the heat of combat to activate a signet, hoping you aren't interrupted. By the time your Poison Tip Signet is recharged, reactivated, and you are attacking, you have spent 7 to 9 seconds waiting for your poison; let's all hope you remember which target to hit with your one poisonous attack (if you hit the wrong guy, time to wait another 7 to 9 seconds for it). Therefore, Poison Arrow is more battle-efficient than the signet counter-part. Moving on, I read that somebody took mana into account somewhere above; I personally carry about 15 expertise on my ranger, and a zealous bow with that. 30+ mana to poison a mob with Poison Arrow against the 15 mana it takes to use Apply Poison makes no real impact on my ranger, as all her skills activate for -60% of their mana cost, and then she gains 1 mana if she hits (let's just assume she does). Her innate mana-regeneration abilities allow her to use Poison Arrow and essentially not lose any energy, if she hits with the attack. Therefore, mana is no issue between Poison Arrow and Apply Poison, if you know what you are doing with your primary ranger (if you are a secondary ranger then this probably doesn't apply to you). I don't play my ranger much anymore, so I have no real opinion on which is more "pwn" (to put it the way kids talk these days); because of this, I can only speak from actual experience using these skills in so many painstaking combinations. In conclusion, each set of skills has its place, but I feel that Poison Arrow with Barbed Arrows is very effective for the primary ranger in combat. I hope I have helped somebody with this very long post. - Devout of Ara Ara 14:51, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I have acutally used that (Barbed Arrows + Poison Arrow) in GvG a couple of times as a Condition Spreader... puts a lot of -7 degen pressure on the other team and the RC can't seem to keep up because for me it costs 2-3 energy verses his/her 5 energy, plus longer recharge and other damage duties. The team tends to fall back and turtle... in which I use one shot this and Epidemic for faster spreading. Something that Bsurge illuded too a while back, works well IMO - SabreWolf 05:50, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Buff to Equal Incendiary Arrows[edit]

Make it hit 4 people. Incendiary Arrows Dwarfs this. 122.104.165.13 07:48, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

/agree. Maybe hit target and up to x foes adjacent to target. Add a small damage bonus to already poisoned foes and slightly increase the recharge time. -- Nox Coma 18:15, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

hell i would take "unblockable" as an acceptable buff or perhaps 2-3x speed--Justice 23:08, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

1 second or less activation. More pewpew :D --75.94.77.148 21:04, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Then Quick Shot would suck even more. Anyway, WTB Buff, whether it be unblockable, hit multiple targets, or something else to its function --Ezekial Riddle 19:06, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Would poison to adjacent foes be useful? 71.37.232.206 20:50, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, very.
I plead for some extra damage a bit like Burning Arrow, 5 energy Poison for xx seconds and strikes for +xx damage and maybe increase the recharge a little but not a lot more, maybe 5 secondsMal 12:46, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
I see Disease as a great addition to the ranger condition spreading playbook. Making this give Poison and Disease, but remove preparations wouldn't be all that unfair. I think it would work fine. Discuss.72.161.115.13 04:53, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Not worth 5 Energy0 Activation time1 Recharge time "Worse than non-elite bow attack. If it hits, Apply Poison plus 33% duration. You are thrown out of the game for not bringing a better elite. (Attribute: Skills that shouldn't be elite)"

Funny but true! I'd like to see this cause Poison to all adjacent foes, possibly with a small +damage too, maybe (1...10) or so. Astralphoenix777 01:47, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

How About...[edit]

Elite Bow Attack. If Poison Arrow hits, your target and 0...2...3 foes adjacent to target foe become Poisoned for 5...17...20 seconds.

Elite Bow Attack. If Poison Arrow hits, your target and 0...2...3 foes adjacent to target foe become Poisoned for 5...17...20 seconds.

Concise description

Poison Flooms[edit]

I liked that one idea about doing extra +dmg if target is poisoned. What if it's like a bow version of flooms? If target is poisoned, do +10...25 damage. Otherwise, target foe is poisoned for 3...15 seconds. Not every bow ranger is going to want to have 16 wilderness to have maxed +dommages from it so there's some compromise that each player needs to find for themselves. 68.38.16.238 19:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

The Buff Possibilities are Nigh on Endless![edit]

Elite Bow Attack: If this attack hits a Bleeding foe, that foe suffers from Disease for X...X...X seconds. Otherwise, this attack poisons target foe for X...X...X seconds.

Elite Bow Attack: If this attack hits, it inflicts Poison for X...X...X seconds. This attack does +X...X...X piercing damage for each condition on target foe.

Elite Bow Attack: Inflicts Poison for X...X...X seconds. If this attack hits a foe already suffering from Poison, all foes adjacent to your target become poisoned for the remaining duration.

Elite Bow Attack: If this attack hits, target foe dies and is resurrected as a level 20 Reanimated Corpse, who shares the same health and skills as target foe. When this Reanimated Corpse dies, two more are summoned from it's corpse. When these Corpses die, 4 more are summoned from each of their corpses.

Elite Bow Attack: If this skill hits, target foe loses 10 Fame, and you gain 10 Fame. Also, you had sex with their mother.

Just some ideas. Give me some feedback. FleshAndFaith 09:47, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

I like those last two. *laughs* Thrain Ranger-tango-icon-20.png Talk 20:30, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

A more sensible idea would be to add some kind of damage. i.e. inflicts +10...25...30 damage and inflict poison condition for 10....20....25 seconds. I might actually use this skill then!!--Stu 11:24, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Interrupts an action if target foe is not Poisoned. Inflicts Poisoned condition (5...17...20 seconds). User Raine R.gif is for Raine, etc. 18:11, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

tbh, poison arrow is a pretty good arena skill. constant -7 degen on everyone <3 InfestedHydralisk 23:26, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Shoot that Poison Arrow...[edit]

Change Attribute to Marksmanship?[edit]

Poison Arrow is fairly underused, and part of that I believe is because its not linked to Marksmanship, but Wilderness Survival.

While I do understand that making poisonous things have to do with surviving in the wild makes sense, the fact is, Marksmanship needs an attack that can deal the Poison Condition.

I think as a skill itself, Poison Arrow is pretty balanced, but it's under the wrong attribute.

Poison arrow is underused because it's a bad skill. Make it unblockable and poison foes adjacent to the target. --68.55.65.212 13:07, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I think just making it disease instead would be awesome enough. Then it would spread on its own ;) FleshAndFaith 03:30, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
That's an idea. One would probably want to rename the skill to something like "Plague Arrow" or the like. -- ᴥ GreyGhost (talk!) ᴥ 06:41, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Poison Arrow + Barbed Arrows is strong. King Neoterikos 02:46, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Does this skill have any uses? there are better ways to cause poison after all, without wasting your elite skill, anyone have any ideas? DemonicFahrir 10:36, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

PvP. — Raine Valen User Raine R.gif 18:01, 30 Aug 2010 (UTC)
Back in 2005, I used to have my ranger use this on the whole mob of enemies we were fighting at any given time. Since there were no heroes, and henchies were not for Srs Bsnss, everyone would still focus their attacks on one person, while I quickly shot off a Poison Arrow at each individual foe... it was possible to cause the equivalent of long-lasting AoE poison with this, and it was a lot faster at doing that than Apply Poison was, since it was a cheap, spammable attack I could time easily. However, being that it is now possible to cause actual AoE poison with a non-elite skill... yeah, I got nothing. Also, I'm pretty sure my old build for this used Power Shot, so as to actually do damage, and you know what happened to that. Rangers are just different beasts nowadays. This ain't gonna see many more PvE bars. =/ --76.166.187.131 10:20, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

I find this skill to be quite useful. With its small energy use and quick recharge, combining this with Hunters Shot and Epidemic gives a nice degen. Using Rotscale's bow will extend the poison, being easily spammable with epidemic, its never ending poison. You could also use a preparation for better combos. Apply Poison is nice, especially with Burning Arrow, but it doesnt last all to long and cost alot more energy. 71.109.112.157 00:34, 9 March 2012 (UTC) GasMaster

AI[edit]

I put this on my Pyre, and he was spamming it non-stop, even though we wern't fighting fleshy monsters. He did not use any of his other skills, some of which have the same energy cost, and they were all recharged. Too bad I only found out after everybody was dead apart from Pyre, including the NPC ally we were protecting... F1restar 05:42, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

The AI sees this as just an attack skill, the more confusing thing is, why do you take this along with you when fighting non-fleshy creatures? InfestedHydralisk 00:32, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
