PreSearing[edit]

How long do you think it would take if I do Legendary Survivor on my almost level 14 elementalist/ranger with the quest Farmer Hamnet(PreSear)?--Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 03:36, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

It's straightforward math. To simplify, let's assume that you start at L20 instead of L14. You need 1,337,500 XP and you can get 32 xp for each L16 foe, so you have to kill under 42,000 foes. Let's oversimplify some more and say that Hammet's quest spawn about 20 Vanguard foes, which means you'd have to run it nearly 2100 times. If that takes you 10 minutes/run, that's about 350 hours or 43 eight-hour days of doing nothing but farming XP. Only 5 minutes/run? Call it 21 days.
Since you're starting at L14, you will be able to shave a tiny bit of time. (Since there's only 70 xKP from L14→L20, it might save you 3-5% of your total time; not enough to matter really.) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:57, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
So since im level 14 itll take 21 days if I go 5 minutes a run, but the quest only happens once every nine days.--Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 09:24, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah, my apologies: you named a quest, so I presumed you meant farming the foes.
If all you are doing is a single quest every nine days, then you are probably getting around 1,250 xp each time it comes around (1,000 for the reward and +/- 250 from killing Vanguard foes) requires roughly 1050 runs. Since the quest comes up roughly 40x/year... well, twenty-six years is a long time. You really want to do some farming or some of the other quests. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 15:58, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Ahh Ill just do the quests with a friend so I wont die on the quests :) tyvm!--Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 07:05, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Books[edit]

Would it be worth noting that you can turn in hard mode story books for good exp rewards? It would be a good synergy with Guardian Title and all 6 story books together yield 517,500 experience (~39% needed for Legendary Survivor) 94.253.139.46 14:30, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

FoW[edit]

For the more experienced player I do recommend a complete NM FoW run. As completing all the quests and the added kill XP gives over 100,000 XP per trip (+ more if you have the two Z Bounties which occur close to each other in the ZB schedule).

Of course this isn't without risk, but in the long run you will only need 14 trips to complete the title. Just load up whatever OP hero build you like and fire away. For the record I did finish of my Warrior's Survivor on FoW runs. 86.17.72.80 00:20, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

You get about 10-15 kxp from foe deaths (20-30 kxp with scrolls), so it won't take 14 trips. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:48, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

Snow Wurms outside Boreal Station[edit]

Using this method I got Legendary Survivor in less than 48 hours (if my numbers are right it should estimate to less than 12 hours play time). As the article already mentions, it gives around 10k xp a run at 5 minutes max per run using Scroll of Rampager's Insight and the universal SoS build. The Scroll of Berserker's Insight makes it about 13k per run and imo is not worth the extra gold cost. About the same time last year I lost survivor at 879k xp because I started to get brave and tried to kill the Oakhearts near the last 3 wurms and ofc lag struck. This time around I've considered all the other options and decided to stick to this method for relative ease and safety, so even if it did mean an extra 10 runs I wouldn't risk killing myself if the oakhearts seemed to overwhelm my spirits (if they aggro'd by themselves that is, I tried to avoid them if I could). Moreover, the runs themselves more than pay for all the scrolls you'll be consuming - not to mention the rares and lockpicks that will be dropping. Hope my advice helps and good luck on your survivors! Jinx of Fortuna 15:23, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Survivor title track bar stuck[edit]

My survivor bar wont move at all, ill die and its stay at 52,487xp? Problem? --Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 20:27, 1 October 2011 (UTC)

More than likely, your /deaths count hasn't gotten higher than 52+k since your last death. Think of it this way: there are two progress meters:
  1. Your current XP since your most recent death. This can only be seen by using /deaths. It increases with any foe death or quest/mish reward; it reverts to 0 whenever you die.
  2. Your Survivor title bar. This remains fixed forever, until your currently accumulated XP (#1) exceeds the number. When this happens...
    • As long as you don't die, both bars will increase together, i.e. they will show the same value.
    • When you next die, the title bar will again remain fixed at that number...until/unless you exceed it again.

After the Update[edit]

It may be worth noting that now that your Survivor track is only reset after death, you can complete dangerous quests with impunity then cash in all the rewards at once to achieve the title, perhaps after completing some risky but high-yield action (so that if you fail, you still have the XP from the quests). 2.24.247.106 16:36, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

""Consider waiting to claim the rewards for your quests until you have made substantial progress in the title. By amassing tens of thousands of experience points, you can avoid most of the risk and the stress that comes towards the end of the title. For specific quests, see Where to find XP (below) or Category:High XP Reward. ""
It is and was worth noting. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:29, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

is it worth noting....[edit]

Lair of the Snowman = 2500xp.... 1,337,500 / 2500 = 535.... i'm sure its not the quickest way but i believe it would get you to dwarf r8 most definitely... and with a proper hero team its near zero risk of dying... yeah after r8 there is no more dwarf points but u can still get the 2500xp reward in NM no matter what rank you are if i'm not mistaken Durp da durp 07:45, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

A Snow Wurm run is 1.3 kXP per 9 min nm/no-scroll run and 10.0 kXP/run for HM/scrolls. Lair's 2.5 kXP/run seems anemic by comparison for survivor, especially considering you have to rezone to retake the quest each time. It's not a bad choice, but I'm ambivalent about whether it's worth adding to the already-long list we have. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:52, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
My thinking was... free=good & pays you > buying tons of scrolls... cause its 535 snowman summoners and 535 of a random x-mas item in NM and 2x that in HM... and at 100g/point selling to other players it is a good chunk of change even without the 250g x 535runs... oh and the sale of all the random drops to merch... every other method is basically buy scrolls... always. this way scrolls do not matter and it pays you instead of (maybe)breaking even Durp da durp 05:00, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
  1. 500+ runs is costly in terms of time. (Your risk also increases the more you repeat the same task, as most ppls tend to be less careful.)
  2. The value of the end-chest is negligible for LotS: you will get far more than 200-300Gold/run from foe drops and (if you want) locked chests (the synergy with Treasure Hunter, Lucky, and Wisdom might be a better argument for this dungeon).
  3. The cost of scrolls for the Snow Wurm and Fronis runs is high (compared to the value from drops), but that's not true of the other farms: vaettirs, raptors, and Cantha Courier Crisis, each of which return far more value than the cost of consumables used.
So, again, it's not a bad farm and it's a nice change of pace. However, I'm still not convinced it's worth adding to the current list. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:04, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Honestly, I think the best, as in most interesting, way of getting this title is to buy it via a pile of Kath hammers. You can get money in plenty of different ways, and if one way starts to get boring, you can switch to another. Sure, the actual accumulating of XP is rather boring (zoning in and out of the dungeon) but that just takes half an hour at most. -- Hong 11:29, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Vizunah Square[edit]

Anomaly: at the end cinematic where everyone was supposed to die (killed by Shiro), I didn't - the minions were still smacking me. But at the end of the cinematic I died. When I checked /deaths it said I had gained 0xp since my last death, which means I died during the cinematic (I didn't die before it). Fortunately I had already maxed my Survivor title on that character. 60.50.243.250 17:41, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Counter reset in PvP[edit]

While doing some FA matches yesterday, I noticed that the exp-counter in /deaths was resetting after every match, even when I didn't die. The counter was at a few hundred exp after every match. Worth noting? Elboomy 17:26, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

being that when you lose a pvp match your party auto wipes meaning you die --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.85.126.158 (talk • contribs) at 04:41, 29 July 2012 (UTC).

AFK Farming[edit]

The title can be farmed with H/H in the Gate of Madness mission of Nightfall. Fight your way to the Chaos Rifts per the normal mission guidelines. Keep to the southeast side of the map and work clockwise from the first portal. Kill the Portal Wraiths and close five of the six Chaos Rifts, leaving only the portal that spawns Titan Abominations. Pull your party south to the end of the Titans' patrol route and flag your heroes. Then just sit back and let them work for you. Note, you want to be far enough away that your heroes have time to recover from battle before the next waive of Titans attacks. There are many videos on the web to show you how to max this title in as few as a 4 - 5 hours. You can also do it without all of the preparation if you don't mind letting your heroes go for 3 - 4 days. It's all up to you. Good hunting. Cyryl Chevalier 23:07, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

This no longer works. There must have been an update. That rift (NE one) spawns torment creatures not titans. BTW, there's only 5 Chaos Rifts in GoM. If I am wrong please let me know. If someone knows the update when this changed, please post a link. Thank you! – josəph 19:54, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
I correct myself. After posting, I wondered if I got the wrong Chaos Rift. I did. You have to leave the first rift you come to, as that is the one with the never-ending titan respawn. Make sure to use a Berserker scroll when you are in place and the titans are automatically being aggroed! – josəph 20:53, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Easy with the Spectral Vaettir Farm[edit]

When I decided to tackle this title, my character had about 80K xp in. I took my ele and used Lightbringer scrolls & ran the Spectral Vaettir farm in Eye of the north. In about 3 and half 4 hours I had the title. Cost me around 35-40 scrolls. This also helped toward my wisdom title because I got to ID all the drops :) Wynterarwynrose 04:20, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Fronis NM[edit]

I am a currently working on my survivor and through research have found that with a scroll of berserker's insight and letting kilroy live has allowed me to complete 5 min runs yieldng 20,000 xp. I only mention this because it is safer then in HM but still takes relatively little time only about 5 hours of consistent farming for 1,000,000 xp. 68.6.168.4 06:23, 17 July 2012 (UTC) 11:22, 7/16/2012 (PST)

Other quest items[edit]

So the Exquisite Surmia Carving from CoF doesn't work for this? (In terms of being able to collect them in advance and turn them all in in a row. Minor typo corrected.) 67.246.60.56 05:07, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Have you read Exquisite Surmia Carving#Notes? --Silver Edge 07:19, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Ban[edit]

Does getting banned add to your deaths count (inside an outpost, outside of an outpost)? 85.178.204.240 04:47, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

No, it doesn't. It functions as a programmed death, I reckon. Survivor#Deaths_that_do_not_reset_progress - Infinite - talk 12:01, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Scarred Psyche[edit]

I noticed the wiki page for that mission mentioned deaths don't count, so I was wondering if it was worth a mention in the strategies section, especially since Halloween is now 2 weeks long and the extremely useful synergy with Gamer (even though I'm sure it won't be that quick compared to some other tactics). 67.246.60.56 06:27, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately ArenaNet anticipated this. Scarred Psyche doesn't yield a lot of experience (most mobs award none) and therefore it would be quite slow to complete Legendary Survivor here. That said, it's certainly possible with dedicated grinding during the holidays (but I certainly wouldn't recommend it). - Infinite - talk 10:15, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

PvP Survivor[edit]

Changes to SERVER[edit]

I brought this up in Kamadan and was promptly told by gorth that i was full of shit because there IS no such code in GW. Servers are, well SERVER side and NOT client side, therefore you won't find the code for this in a GW CLIENT (your game). In the section titled "Fast, but subject to lag", it recommends heading to guild hall to escape and says its faster than mapping. This is no longer the case, and its been that way for quite a while. All of my accounts except one are with large guilds, when I click the undocked guild button OR use the bound g key it takes SEVEN seconds for the guild panel to propogate, in my one account that is with a guild with only 2 members, it loads almost instantly. So it is important to note that this game now PUNISHES you for being in a decent guild. You might want to join a tiny guild when working on survivor, or choose one of the other methods. BTW, MAPPING speed is not affected be this... howevermanytildesyouwantherebemyguestoyeahandscreeniesoritneverhappened --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.64.79.53 (talk) at 19:35, 17 April 2019‎ (UTC).
