Ezekial Riddle's Issue 22:04, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Issue
- Well, where to start? The skill, by design, is flawed. No one is going to Sacrifice themselves for their self-sacrificial buddy. Heck, even an infuse monk would probably ignore a Necromancer that sacs too much, unless it was absolutely necessary, like a BiP Necro(lawl). Which means this enchantment is only really useful for the self. Here is where the situation gets very interesting.
- Once before, this skill and Shadow Walk were key to a mindless and suicidal 1500 DPS exploit (you read right, one-thousand five-hundred damage per second.) ANet was quick to fix the exploit, and amazingly, they didn't 25/90 either of the skills involved. A quick fix to the skills put the idea of bombing out of the picture for a while.
- A few months later, ANet would decide to overhaul some sections of the game. This included the competitive missions Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry. All right, nothing bad, it was an attempt to make the compensation better for those participating. However, this, in turn, created a "farming" state for the Arenas, of which I am not going to entertain my complaints against in this issue.
- Back on subject, let's focus on the Penalties for dying in these arenas: nothing. A 5 second respawn timer, and you're back trying to accomplish the objective. To put things in a nutshell, it is Guild Wars own area for the Quake players. There's no punishment for dying, as such, in the Jade Quarry, people deliberately die for the sake of accomplishing the objectives. This is completely against any of the other Arenas, where one gets a debuff for dying, or has to sit for what seems like an eternity to get back in the battle. And the main reason people are so successful at farming while killing themselves? Dark Aura. Punish adjacent
player enemiesbadly coded AI for hurting yourself. Great concept.- TL;DR
- Dark Aura is a badly designed skill that entertains poor playing methods and needs to be rebalanced.
- Short-term Suggestion A.K.A. 25/90
- If we want to kill the skill's current use for the time being, make it Target Other Ally and end after 1 sacrifice, and 25 energy, 90 recharge of course. This then requires a follow-up to balance.
- Possible balance suggestions
- If we want to stay with some way of playing from sacrifice, change to
10 2 20 Hex Spell. For 5...10...11 Whenever you sacrifce, target foe takes 10...22...25% of the sacrifice.
- Or, if you want to completely change the skill (and violate some themes, so it would seem) alter by doing this:
10 2 20 Hex Spell. For 8 seconds, target foe and nearby non-moving foes take 3...15...18 shadow damage each second this hex is active. Only one copy of the hex may be active at any given moment.

The name Ezekial Riddle comes from the misspelling of the coolest Old Testament name ever and the antagonist of the Harry Potter series, who subsequently turned out to be a giant puss. I managed to bring the two together in the epic game: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
