The problem[edit]
On my short visit to PvXwiki a few users there got me to realise how far behind GuildWiki the official wiki is in some crucial aspects. Many of the most viewed articles are very uninformative or lacking lots of important information. Even many of the new game features released after the official wiki has been running for a long time have been documented better on GuildWiki.
To me this is an unacceptable situation. This wiki is used by the in game help system and should offer new users and casual players as much help as possible, but for many users this wiki has not offered what they are looking for.
What I am going to do about it[edit]
I decided to make my time and passion for this wiki count. However, as a single user I'll have hell of a job to do, so I decided to do my best in inspiring others to do the same. Therefore I'm creating this personal project to improve the wiki.
I will take up one or two tasks at a time, nothing too large but nothing too small either. I'll post all necessary details and required quick references on this page. All users of the wiki are encouraged to help with the tasks and update the project according to what they've completed. When a task is completed, I'll post the next task.
Rewards for helping[edit]
What makes this project interesting for other users is the reward system. For each completed task I will award one or possibly a few of the best helpers with great in game prizes. And great doesn't mean worthless items, but instead good amounts of cash, useful items or in game services (visit www.runningrangers.net for available services ;) ). I will decide who will receive the prizes for a completed task based on the stuff that each user has marked as done for that task. (Of course I'll check if the player who marked the thing done really did it himself) Users receiving the prizes can of course let me know what rewards they would prefer. I'm open for improvement ideas for the rewards and I'll probably post detailed prize information for each task.
Task history[edit]
For completed tasks and their rewards see User:Gem/Wiki improvement/Completed.
- Task #1: The Underworld - completed
- Task #2: Titles - canceled due to inactivity
- Bonus task #3: Guild Wars Wiki:Game integration/Skills - ongoing
- Task #4: Fissure of Woe - finished due to inactivity
Bonus task #3: Skills[edit]No, this is not what you are thinking. We are not going to go through all skills and do blah blah blah to them. Instead, we are looking at Guild Wars Wiki:Game integration/Skills. You should see lots of red links on that page. All of those are links to skills that exist in the game, but haven't yet been documented on the wiki. Some of them are stuff that we might not even be able to document because they are monster skills or environment effects that are not in use or are used invisibly to the players. However, there's a great deal of skills that can be added to the wiki, so let's get it done. Everyone might not know where to find each of those skills in game, but you can probably guess some from their names, or if not, you could try to look at the skills before and after that skill to see if they have some sort of hints on the location. For example all monster skills used by oozes in the Ooze Pit dungeon are next to each other in the list. Once you find one of the skills in game, screenshot it and create the skill page for the skill. Also, in addition to creating articles for skills that are red in the list we should try to complete this list. Especially lots of the Eye of the North monster skills are missing. To add something to the list you'll first have to find that skill in the game. Immediately after seeing a monster use the skill, press F10 and look under the 'recently encountered skills'. Click on the name of the skill and you'll get thrown to the wiki on the corresponding game link page. On that page you will have to create a inter wiki redirect. To create the redirect, put the following on the page: This task is a bit different from the others as it doesn't have a complete task list in the beginning due to the list being expanded through the documenting process. Also, this is a low priority task when considering the wiki as a help tool for new and unexperienced players, so the rewards on this task will be a bit lower when compared to other tasks (when considering the reward per article created). However, a single user might be able to gather a much larger reward with this task if he succeeds in creating dozens of new skill articles with all the necessary information. Please add all articles created below. You can also add an additional mention if you also created the game link for the skill.
