Great idea![edit]
I think you did something like this on Guildwiki didn't you too? Well anyway, this is a great idea, and I really hope it catches on. --Lemming 00:02, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yes, I did something similiar when I started the improvement project there. However, I learned from that one that people aren't interested in fixing stuff if they don't have a reason to, they'll just dump the problem to others and be happy with that. Also, having a large list of stuff to do will just cause the 'maby later' reaction. Instead, this time I'm having two tasks at a time and ask users to concentrate on those and I'm offering some nice rewards to keep them interested. (Sponsors are welcome too *heh* but I'll manage a few rounds easily with my current in game holdings. Just need to get back to running business again to keep this project rollin' till we are all dead) -- (gem / talk) 00:09, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
This sounds great, I'll do my best to help, since I could use the cash :) I also fixed a typo I hope you don't mind. - Hyrule 00:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Fixing typos is the simplest form of improving a wiki, but definitely a great thing. = Yes, please fix my typos, I'm (again) writing stuff after 3 AM. -- (gem / talk) 00:15, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Task #1 is up. Go get em and have some fun in the process! :) Bed time for me, 4:05am. -> zzz... -- (gem / talk) 01:06, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Btw, if anyone is interested in the reason for selecting UW as the first task, it's pretty simple really. The first edits I made to GuildWiki back in the good old times ( :P ) were the edits I did to some of the UW quests when I realised that I knew more about those quests than the wiki even though I had just played through them for the first time. That's how it all began for me so that's how this project shall begin. -- (gem / talk) 01:09, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Good choice, it has always bugged me how that section has never filled up :) I have never been to the UW much though to do it myself. --Lemming 01:14, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Awesome idea! I was just running out of wiki projects, so now I'm settled for some time ;) - anja 05:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
This is very cool indeed. Deserves some more linkage. PS: Does anyone know how the status of UW pick up quest (not farming) groups is? I used to play there a loong time ago, but haven't actually visited in about a year. --Xeeron 11:18, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Getting a non-farming group might be difficult. You'll see a group gather now and then, but they seem to be first time visitors mostly who don't have a clue what they are doing. Friends and guildies are your friends. :) -- (gem / talk) 11:41, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I've started working on FoW, since i was there last weekend. -- Morgoth Bauglyr 14:35, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Oh. I was going to use FoW after UW is completed. I think that any updates you do to FoW articles now might still count for the reward system though, depends on how lazy I am.
- I've now revealed the second task. Depending on the results the rewards on this task might stay low as the stuff is mostly complete, just the title farming guides are missing. (good guides = good rewards :P ) -- (gem / talk) 17:09, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't read the rewards part tbh :P Morgoth Bauglyr 18:28, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Gem, I know this discussion ended a few days ago, but I just noticed it and you're totally right. The old wiki was great, and has far more info, but it's dying. We can't copy/paste the info, but we need to get it over here. I'm about to go to bed, but tomorrow I'll begin working on the game integration skills part. Calor - talk 03:23, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Task 2 - Titles[edit]
GWW:TITLE. I did standardise the look and feel of it. It's just that it's probably not intuitive enough that people just keep adding sections at the wrong places :) A review of that might be in order I think. -- ab.er.rant 17:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ok. :) Then we'll just need to standardize the articles based on that. -- (gem / talk) 19:00, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- There isn't any standard for including the title rank skills and is done differently on different pages. See Allegiance rank and Asura rank for comparison. --Valshia 19:58, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Fixed the links; you linked to Asura, while the title's page is off on Asura rank. I also tracked down a link to Guardian (title). -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 21:31, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Now if I could only find something to improve on one of the actual title pages. People have already been pretty busy. :P -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 21:44, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Valshia, the one for Allegiance rank is the one that was designed based on the formatting. The skills section for Asura rank was something CoRrRan added recently, and something that I'm working on making it into a "See also" part (and organising the lists of skills categories as well). -- ab.er.rant 01:21, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Task #3 Skills[edit]
When updating Hunt Point Bonus I struggled for a uniform format to follow and frankly, couldn't find one. Note for reference Dwarven Raider and Great Dwarf's Blessing and you'll see what I mean. I used the skill box, because it seemed to fit better than the SS/LB box, but it really needs a special one and that's out of my realm of ability at the moment. Lady Chevon 00:39, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think you hould take this matter to the public at Guild Wars Wiki:Formatting/Skills. Good catch. -- (gem / talk) 08:59, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- I found a similar issue with Gods Blessings, and left a comment in the skill infobox talk requesting a gold cost parameter for them. Gem: would you mind adding a Note on Task#3, requesting users not to create Blessings articles until someone comes up with a standard format for them (related)?. I'll work on that for now.reanor 17:44, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Missing Skills[edit]
I'm not sure how relevant it really is, but the Guild_Wars_Wiki:Game_integration/Skills page lacks the complete list of skills in the game, not to mention some of the Wintersday skills. Most easily noticed is the lack of any listing for the Asuran Bodyguard Rank past Rank 2, and only one blessing rank lising has all four ranks. Since I not at all familiar with the integration pages, I thought to mention it here. Yukiko 09:14, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- You can easily add any skills to the list. You need to know their Game link number first though. When you know the game link number, just copy paste a line from the list and replace the game link numbers with the correct number and the skill name with the correct name. Getting the game link numbers from some skills is impossible atm, for example the wintersday skills, so can't do anything about them. -- (gem / talk) 09:18, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
suggestion for task 4[edit]
Dungeons! :) They are lacking quite a lot of beast info, any kind of guide/walkthrough and setup suggestions. --Lemming 21:42, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's true, and dungeons are a very popular thing nowdays. I'm still pondering between dungeons, FoW, pre-Searing and some mission stuff. You'll see what I decide when we get the UW done. :) -- (gem / talk) 22:26, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
When you finish the Underworld[edit]
You can cross it off here Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Explorable Areas#The Mists explorable areas --Primeval Sentinel Talk 03:21, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm... he can't. I just realized that we actually have the Underworld (region) in addition to the Underworld. Are UW and FoW regions? Personally, I don't think they are. -- ab.er.rant 08:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Blessings and Enviroment effects[edit]
There's no Format guide yet, but I made this too goodies:
For now, use these articles as and example:
- Ranger of Melandru (for god blessings)
- Asuran Bodyguard (for reputation bounty-like blessings)
- Scepter of Orr's Power (for all environment effects)
Feel free to make any suggestions :D reanor 22:16, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I started a discussion on this at Guild Wars Wiki talk:Formatting/Skills#Effects infobox. -- ab.er.rant 02:06, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
UW areas map[edit]
I would like to know if anyone can give me some input on the following image:
I've tried to mark all areas as good as I can, and I'm planning to update it some more, but I want to know if the map is showing the correct entrances to the various areas. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 16:04, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- I like the general idea. Would it be possible to make a version where all ofthe wall area is colored as red or something, and only the areas where you can actually move are shown with the regular color? If you don't want to do it, I might during the weekend. -- (gem / talk) 19:28, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's possible, but the original version of this map is a bit small to distinguish all those walls. And I also haven't been past the Twin Serpent Mountain parts myself, so that would be a bit tricky... (LFG: entire UW!) -- (CoRrRan / talk) 19:56, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Where is the UW? As I would love to help! if its the Grenth statue thing I could do that!
- Yes. See The Underworld for all the necessary info. :) -- (gem / talk) 21:29, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
The Underworld (region) -Task#1[edit]
Is this article really needed? I understand that its main role seems to be bringing The Underworld and the Nightfallen Tomb together, however as they seem no more connected than the Fissure of Woe and the Underworld, surely they can all be kept under The Mists. I'd like to know so I can begin cleaning up the final location article. --Indecision 01:42, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- I was the one who crated that article. The only purpose was to have something to change to for the many links who had the The Underworld as a region. There is no problem in changing it, only a lot of work. Backsword 03:34, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- I can see the problem you had. I'm trying to work this out, but I'm worried about destroying the connections of previously created articles. The way I see it the region structure should be:
- The Mists
- The Underworld - Explorable Area
- Heroes Ascent
- The Underworld (arena) - first map from Heroes Ascent (maybe what heroes ascent comment refers to)
- all other heroes ascent arenas based in the mists.
- Crystal Desert
- Tomb of the Primeval Kings
- The Underworld (Nightfallen Tomb)
- the other three pve EAs here.
- Tomb of the Primeval Kings
- The Mists
- I can see the problem you had. I'm trying to work this out, but I'm worried about destroying the connections of previously created articles. The way I see it the region structure should be:
- I'd like to get more feedback on this before going through and changing a whole bunch of articles. --Indecision 06:08, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Update: I've removed mention of the underworld as a region from all articles that were using it. Such articles now reference either The Mists, The Underworld (Nightfallen Tomb) or The Underworld (arena). It'd be good if someone can review what I've done from a lore perspective before going ahead with the deletion of the region article. --Indecision 01:13, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is that we have standard for 'subregions', that share some elements but are not full regions. It's an issue for the Domain of Anguish and the Shiverpeak Mountains too..
- The issue here is that there is a certain graphic set with a gloomy look that is used for some parts of the Mists, but not others. The places that share those graphics also share a chest: Phantom Chest. thus qualifiying this grouping as something people want to mention. See the description for The Underworld (arena); it is clearly not refering to the explorable, but obviously not to the mists either, as those are mentioned too. Backsword 07:13, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Completion[edit]
Task #1 is almost complete! Go ahead and finish it and I'll start giving up the rewards! Everyone who took part will be rewarded! -- (gem / talk) 21:19, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, task #1 has now been completed. I have moved it to a sub page and calculated the rewards. Please see the /Completed sub-page for reward details and contact me in game for the rewards.
- I'll be raising the reward amounts for future tasks, so be sure to take part in the project. -- (gem / talk) 10:03, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Raise rewards?! I think they are quite big already ^^ - anja 10:10, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I got less than 10k =D I got 6k! W00t! I'm Smashman Lossehelin if anyone wants to add me =D --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Smashman2004 .
- I am happy for you to reapply my prize for the other projects, I don't think I did that much on those two articles really to justify the 3 plat, also I am not actually hard up for cash in game at the moment. Thanks very much anyhow Gem! :) --Lemming 16:42, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for posting the rewards Gem, however, I respectfully decline. Please use it for another project.Lady Chevon 20:26, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Task#4 - Fissure[edit]
Hey just a quick heads up that as referred to here: User talk:Andrew McLeod/Species#Shadow Army, the Shadow Army are all Nightmares. There is also a new {{NPC infobox}} parameter (affiliation), that can be used to describe the army the npc belongs to. Edit: note that the affiliation trait for all enemies in the fissure of woe should technically be the Fissure of Woe Army, despite the different lore based groupings of enemies (see here and here). --Indecision 01:07, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't followed any of those discussions, so if you can update the infoboxes of all foes in FoW (and why not the UW ones too if they need updating) it would be great. -- (gem / talk) 08:45, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm probably going to wait until the naming scheme is finalised before I go ahead and do anything with the NPC articles. Looks like the FoW is almost done anyways :). --Indecision 04:52, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- Added a how to get to fow section and started off the Foes list, both have been added too since then and the page looks alot better now :). Cassius 14:34, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
