  1. This story is not one of a hero gaining glory across bloodstained ground.

It's a story of two unlikely friends.

One was a man who stood with his people to overthrow a tyrannical government. One was a centaur who stood apart from his people to stop being part of tyranny.

Together, they would change the world in ways neither of them would ever know.

  2. His name was Ronan. One of the many citizens of Kryta who, fed up with the autocratic leadership of the White Mantle, had taken up a position in the Shining Blade.

Light on his feet, Ronan had been assigned as a scout, tasked with keeping one step ahead of the Mantle. Most times it was literally one step.

On that day, the Blade had got word of the Mantle's intent to wipe out several of the outlying villages. Ronan had stepped up to the task, determined to thwart any attack.

After all, his home was out on the edges.

  3. Ventari was a centaur. An outcast from his pride, for supporting one idea which the others of his race did not hold - peace.

High above the Maguuma, Ventari made a refuge for himself within the lands of the centaur. He welcomed all who shared his dream of peace, even if they didn't share his methods. During the time of the Flameseeker Prophesies, heroes stopped at the wise centaurs abode in their quest to aid the Shining Blade.

All was not well for Ventari. Whilst the constant flow of heroes and mercenaries had protected the refuge, once they were gone it quickly came under attack. Slipping away into the jungle, Ventari sought a boat out of the Maguuma, the faster the better.

He cared not for where he went, just hoped that he find somewhere he could finally live in peace...

  4. Ronan found more then he bargained for. The camp was twice the size of the force the Blade had been expecting, and they could do little but their job - scout the area.

Although they utilized the utmost stealth, Ronan's compatriots were captured, leading the Mantle to begin the attack early. As he fled the group in all haste, he got separated, ending up in a cave filled with magnificent plants, seed pods everywhere. He threw a single one is his pocket, determined to make it back to his daughter to show her. To warn them of the coming attack.

He found instead a helpless centaur, refusing to kill his pursuers. Ronan had no such qualms. He acted almost instinctively, using the environment around him to cut off several groups of Mantle, saving the centaur's life.

  5. Thanking Ronan for his aide, Ventari introduced himself and explained his destination. As their paths moved towards the same direction, they traveled together.

As they moved, Ronan felt a sickening in his gut as the number of Mantle only grew. Group after group fell before his blade, as Ventari pushed several into submission. Their collective pace increased, until they came upon a horrible sight - Ronan's home alight. Standing besides the wreckage was clearly the culprit - the Mursaat Proditor Exuro. In fury, Ronan leapt upon him, leaving Ventari to keep him alive and fend off the wind riders that slowly emerged from the surrounds.

Minutes later, the Mursaat finally lay dead, Ronan standing over his dead corpse. Turning to look at the village, he dropped to his knees, his axes falling to his sides.

He did the only thing he could - he wept.

  6. Hours later, Ronan climbed to his feet, and aided by Ventari, set to the grim task of burying the bodies of his friends and family. He took no joy in it, watched over by both Ventari and the swarm of wind riders that had made the lagoon their home. It seemed in respect that the creatures did not touch the pair, although it is anyone's guess.

As he buried his daughter, he pulled the seed from his pocket, now the size of his fist, and planted it at her feet. Maybe in death she would see the seed and look at it in wonder.

Time passed, as it always does, and the pair were joined by others seeking sanctuary from the storm of violence that absorbed the world.

Quietly, the seed began to grow, becoming the basis on which the pair hoped the world might find peace....
