Subst unsigned
Hey Bex, what's with that Subst unsigned stuff? /me waves to the camel too -- (CoRrRan / talk) 09:33, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Substituting uses of the unsigned template. :) - BeX 10:08, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Heh, you could have just put a link to those on my talk page instead of editing a zillion pages! Or at least ask for bot rights! :P Are you trying to get banned again? :P --Xasxas256 06:05, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaced Images
Between yesterday and today I've gone through Category:Image_update_needed and replaced everything except the two staffs. Since you added most of the Template:image update tags, I was wondering if you wanted to re-review them, see if they're up to standards? I prefer not to just remove the tags myself in case I missed something. - Tanetris 11:28, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for doing all of that! I'll go through them all now. :) - BeX 11:30, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- They all looked great, apart from a couple that were taken from a very high angle, but still not big enough a problem to warrant a reshot. Good work. :) - BeX 11:35, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thought you'd sneak one in after I stopped looking, eh? Well, I'm one step ahead of you! Looks like most of the other Holdings of Chokhin NPCs similarly need an update or need an image in the first place, so I'll go through those after the Dragon Festival. Also, as you noted about the high angles, I'm now using shorter characters for my screeenshots. My main, who has every area of the game, is unfortunately my tallest, but I have all of Tyria, all of Cantha, and most of Elona on shorter chars. - Tanetris 11:58, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Buahahaha! My main is very tall too, but usually I step back from the NPC and it makes it a little better, though the pictures end up smaller (but when they get resized as thumbnails isn't not that big a deal). I actually was going through Special:Uncategorizedimages and del tagged a few and just added the screenshot tag to that one before I gave up and went back to the festival. :P It's quite handy for finding images that need updating! - BeX 12:03, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- I see you've been busy again (in fact, Recentchanges suggests you're being busy right now).. Enjoy the Dragon Festival?
- Did Kenohir already, lest it just get deleted in the meantime, and I think I'll have another evening of screenshotting later. As for stepping back and getting smaller pictures.. Well... We're just two different people. ;) - Tanetris 12:28, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think I actually flooded RC for the entire day!
- The festival was fun, I managed to get my main rank one Sweet Tooth. :)
- I've marked a few that need updating but there are still so many more. I tagged several hundred uncategorised images, but I've only gotten up to the first lot of B's in the list so there will be plenty more to come!
- I think I'm done for today - wiki-overload. Have fun. :P - BeX 12:50, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

RFA
I've nominated you for a sysop position per the guidelines at GWW:RFA. Please indicate a clear acceptance or refusal of the nomination. You've consistently been a trustworthy contributor, and I believe you would be good for the position. —Tanaric 21:14, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Tagging
Isn't there about 4000 images to tag? --Xasxas256 08:19, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I've pretty much finished the A's. ;) - BeX 08:24, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Um yeah...not the answer I was hoping for! :( Well I've done all the candy cane weapons! XD --Xasxas256 08:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- There's no special "ported" tag is there? E.g. Image:Corsair Wizard.jpg --Xasxas256 08:45, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- The whole issue of copyright on screenshots is a bit iffy, because in the end, all those pixels = owned by arenanet. I am not sure of the legal issues required when attributing an original uploaded or "screen capturer" - and in a lot of cases the images have "got permission" in the description, I mean wtf is that supposed to mean?! I just tag the screenshots and if someone wants to claim copyright infringement it's Anet they have to fight with, not me. ;) - BeX 08:47, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm ok, I'll leave the "Image by Gares Redstorm from GuildWiki" line that Aberrant had then and just add {{screenshot}} then ;) You saw the octopus vs Rain thing on his talk page yeah? No light you can shed? --Xasxas256 08:51, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I remember the same discussion that Rainith mentioned. Some people were wondering if you can be attributed for the screenshots, because you choose the angle, etc, but I think in the end it was decided you cant (though if you edit a screenshot, like with Dirigible's maps, I think you can claim some authorship over the added parts?). I can't remember where the discussion was and something tells me it was all over the place (i.e. copyright template talk pages, gww:copyrights talk, etc). We should really get some clarification from Arenanet about it. I mean there are even some people saying all in game screenshots fall under "fair use". :S - BeX 08:55, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Finished the B's! :D - BeX 09:37, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would say the safest way to treat a screenshot in terms of copyright is like photography. The copyright for a photograph belongs to the photographer, however, because the "photographs" in this case are always taken in a non-public location (i.e. on Anet's privately-owned servers), it is up to Anet whether photographs may be taken: in this case, they do under the condition that it is their copyright on it. So yes, it's Anet-copyrighted material, but it's still proper to get the screenshotter's permission and give a credit note per GFDL.
- Anyway, there's no shortage of film, and now that my connection's stopped sucking, I'm back on the screenshotting warpath. - Tanetris 14:22, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- That is a great explanation, and I think it covers all the concerns that were raised when the topic was being discussed before. As for me, I'm done for the night! I have a lot more screenshots to upload but my killer headache is sending me to bed. Have fun. ;D - BeX 14:27, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Shouldn't we just ask an Anet rep? You know use the one advantage this wiki has over the other one!? :P P.S. In addition to the candy cane weapons, I've now tagged all the Corsair images. You can sleep easy now!!! --Xasxas256 14:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- If you feel it needs official clarification, by all means, point one of our fine Anet reps over here.
- Feel better, Bex. - Tanetris 15:08, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Say... what if I'd go and upload several new images starting with "A" and "B" and err.. "forget" to tag them :P -- ab.er.rant 16:30, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Just curious...
Do you dislike me personally? I seem to get that vibe from you. If I've done something to offend, it was completely unintentional. If it's just that we agree nearly completely on wiki policy, so be it. :) —Tanaric 20:05, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- No, I don't dislike you, nor do I have anything against you personally. I just don't know you! - BeX 02:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- You know I think we should fix that. I'll send you an email once I'm done with my watchlist. - BeX 02:42, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
NPA...
What did I say that violated (or came close to violating) NPA? I don't take too kindly to such accusations. --Karlos 22:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- This may not be what Bex had in mind, but the only thing I can see remotely close to a personal attack is "What is wrong with you people?". I reread your comments twice after seeing the NPA accusation, and that's the best I can do. —Tanaric 00:16, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- That was certainly part of it, and that you decided to make your argument about "my personal taste" which has little to do with the discussion at all. You were targeting me, and several other people specifically, in a way I feel was unfair and unfounded. - BeX 02:10, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- I still don't see any personal attacks. "What is wrong with you people?" is an insult or personal attack? It's an exaggerated expression that I feel many of you have lost touch with the basic principles of formulating policy and the basic rights user have on the wiki.
- I used your taste as an example, followed by min and Aberrant's. I was not commenting on your taste specifically.
- Finally, the only other time I mentioned your name was to list you as a proponent of the policy. Are you not a proponent of it?
- On the flip side, you've described my entire effort as one "big angry rant about scroll length." Should I take that rewriting of my intentions (and dumbing down of my intellect) as a personal attack too?
- In any case. I have nothing but respect for you. I am very confrontational in my debates and will get down to the issue at heart and address it. I might skip some ettiquettes, but I will not trample people's rights. I would like to take your concern seriously, but I still see no grounds for saying I was on the verge of a personal attack on you or anyone else. --Karlos 08:40, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- NPA specifically says to comment on the content, not the contributor, and that any comment that may disparage editors should be avoided. I may have been one of the people that contributed towards the policy, but I was far from the main proponent and it was never at any point the policy I would have liked to have seen. I think the way you singled out myself, as well as any other person (like Aberrant or Pepe) in your comments was unfair and unnecessary. I apologise if my comment was also unacceptable, but I was angry that I was being targeted when all I had tried to do was enforce a policy. And I must point out that if I am guilty of "rewriting intentions" then you most certainly are too.
- I am staying out of the discussion until I see a policy proposal, because at the moment things are going nowhere (except to a place where everyone is frustrated or angry with each other). Everything that is being said now has already been said months ago and it is highly doubtful that you will ever find a place where every person in the discussion is happy. We tried that the first (and second, and third) time around and all we could manage was the compromise that the current policy represents.
- I hope that you decide to take a less confrontational manner in pursuing this matter, because it's not winning you any allies. - BeX 08:51, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I added specific rewrites in the lastest edit I did to the "core issue" section. See how those feel to you. Although I do not feel I disparaged you in any way (I still don't consider naming you as an example or a proponent as a personal attack), I apologize if you felt antagonized. I cut to the chase, I try to be blunt and to the point, but I do not try to scare people/intimidate them out of a discussion and I don't want this to be the case here. Cheers. --Karlos 09:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Collector Info
Heya, I'm currently working on sorting out the Trophy stubs and the collectors with it. I've been inter-linking the the collectors with their wanted trophy and such and I've been thinking of listing the collector under the weapon's Acquisition heading, just so that if your looking for a weapon you can see the monsters that drop it and the collectors willing to trade for it. Any thoughts on this? --Affian 09:35, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

- I do the same thing. :P That's actually a very old image I found while going through old screenshots I'd saved for gwiki (I'll be uploading some more later, but they are mostly weapons). I took it with my warrior, and I remember being annoyed that the bloody enemy kept attacking me and was getting too close. I was on a slightly higher elevation, and my warrior is as tall as possible, and the Acolyte is leaning forward so it does make it seem like I was towering over it a bit. :P I just remember wishing that it would leave me alone so that I could take pictures in peace. ^_^ - BeX 07:07, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I just got my Pre-Release Bonus Pack from EB Games in suburban Melbourne, so they have reached our shores. If they want you to pay for it, tell them to get lost! (The actual pack contains basically nothing you wouldn't get in the online store: old Nightfall trailer, pre-release key, picture of menacing foes on the inside of the cover, disc with Jora printed on it, no tea. -- Dashface 09:54, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I think I'll be picking up a copy of it for my spare account, just so that I can have the map and stuff that comes with GW:EN. Otherwise I'll be ordering it from the store because I want the mission pack and I've got too many characters as it is. ;) - BeX 11:00, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I decided to go with the three extra character slots. They're hatcheries for more minipets now. -- Dashface 12:30, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Haha, awesome. :) - BeX 12:41, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hey guys, how much is it at EB? --Xasxas256 00:18, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think Dashface paid for his, so I'm guessing they're giving them away... -- Scourge 01:49, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- I obviously don't understand any of this! What did he get? How much is GWEN? Is there a PvP version for it? I'm such a noob! You know what I'll rub it in, someone can subst in unsigned after this! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Xasxas256 .
- He went to EB and pre-ordered GW:EN. They gave him the pre-order pack for free. It will cost 49.95 from EB Games. And no, no PvP version. ;P - BeX 02:54, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Only today did I go to EB to pick it up. SHOCK HORROR, they didn't have any left (heart attack time). Then the employees told me to go to another, nearby, EB, since apparently, that EB couldn't get rid of them. I went there and swindled myself a pack and it's been Happy Happy Joy Joy mode (with cheshire cat grin too!) for the last few hours. --Kale Ironfist 09:53, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- That's lucky! I imagine it must have something to do with the store locations. I bet the suburban stores around here have a few copies left, but EB is really slack and doesn't keep track of stock in all their stores, and they don't even offer to call somewhere else for you... Ugh! - BeX 15:08, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Attention
May I get your attention to my first try to write the armor formatting guide? :P Or are you just avoiding it on purpose, I would understand that too. :) - anja 08:24, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- I read through it before and it looked fine to me. :) I had written something basically identical, and not complete but I can't find it. :S - BeX 08:32, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hmh :/ Well, then we have a guide up at least. :) Going to fix some details here and there and get the armor art index one up. - anja 08:33, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- I think that when anyone makes the articles for the new armor types (if it isn't you or I!) we will spot any errors and be able to see in the formatting guide where it needs changes. At this point though, the guides aren't too important because everything's done! Meanwhile, check out the female mesmer armor galleries and tell me what you think. :) I've got to do a couple more masks that I didn't do because my main mesmer's hair gets in the way (ignore the Discreet pics for now, cant be bothered redoing them for that small error :P). All of the standard armor galleries are done for female mesmers, except Kurzick and Luxon which I can't get yet, and probably wont bother buying. :P - BeX 08:53, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

- Good point. I'll check out the galleries :) - anja 09:06, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Lovely :) Finally we have some complete galleries, and also something to show "this is how it should look" :P - anja 09:38, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- :D I went the extra mile and made them all the same size so that if someone wanted they could copy and paste the component shots into photoshop and piece together whatever ensemble they want. :) I'll be doing the other profession ones sometime, as I've just deleted most of my characters and am remaking them. - BeX 10:10, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- That's really nice :D
o.O on the char deletion, I don't think I would have the heart to do that. All the money I spent on skills and armor... :P - anja 10:18, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
