Userboxes =)
Hehe, seems you liked them, thank you =D LunarEffect 01:07, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, I love userboxes ^^,--§ Eloc § 01:44, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

- This looked like the correct place for this. I was wondering what I might need to do to have the sunspear rank userbox I made a little easier to edit and use on the official wiki. I didnt copy the other wikis box and I don't know enough about how to properly make a page so the template works when you use the short version of the userbox template, and I thought you may be able to help with that. If that all made sence do you have any tips for me? Bartelby 04:00, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, give me a second and I'll make you an template in order to do that. No one else beat me to it please (ie. poke, lemming or any other sysops lol)--§ Eloc § 04:02, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- There, finally got it! Go to here for instructions.. In short you can add it by typing
# of points
Be sure to tell me if there are any bugs or anything wrong with it.--§ Eloc § 04:21, 8 November 2007 (UTC)- Thanks for the fast response. Man you are fast! Bartelby 04:33, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ty :). I know some people here who are even faster. Compared to them, I'm a complete noob at the GWW coding.--§ Eloc § 04:37, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well I hope to maybe be considered a noob at GWW coding someday. =D Oh, one thing I noticed on the template was that when I left the ":" in front of the user sunspear part the userbox would not show up. Once I removed it, it worked fine. I'm not sure if that is just something with my computer or if it does need to be taken out since the box does work in the example on the template page. Bartelby 04:43, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- One more thing. I'm planning to make a lightbringer userbox too, unless it has already been made of course. So I may, if you don't mind, ask for another template page in the near future. Bartelby 04:48, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- I fixed the thing with the :, just tell me when you need the Lightbrigner one.--§ Eloc § 04:53, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- ok, I created a similar userbox for the lightbringer rank. I was thinking of giving a go at making the page for the template but I decided it is best to leave that to the pros. So if you have some time to make another one for me I'd appreciate it. Thanks for all the help! Bartelby 05:32, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for making the template for me again. I hate to bring it up but again I don't know how to change it. Lightbringer is spelled wrong in some of the template. You have the n and the g switched in some of the spellings. Bartelby 05:30, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

My userpage has a bug in IE
Hi Eloc, I have a problem with my userpage, and was wondering if you could please help me with it. Using FireFox my userpage looks fine, but if I look at it using IE, it stretches the info column all the way to the right side of the screen and doesn't display the links and pictures sections. If you have any idea how to resolve this problem, I'd be most grateful for any advice. Have a great day! LunarEffect 20:59, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome
Well the header pretty much sums it all up :) I noticed on your user page that you're one that provides UP layouts... how do I do that? Of course I'll credit you or whoever else I decide to borrow one from that was on the page :) Thehockeydude44 03:23, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm assuming the userbox which looks like
UPL | This user allows their user page layout(s) to be used by others as long as credit is given. |
this.
- Is that what you mean? If so, just add User page layout somewhere on your userpage and you'll get the nifty little box and be placed into the Users providing user page layouts category.--§ Eloc § 03:46, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well thats the box, but I meant how do I use your layout? Thehockeydude44 16:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Heya
Heya and thanks for the warm welcome...even though I've been around here a bit :P. I do more on Guild Wiki than this site though. Wondering if you can answer me a question... On this site, during skill evaluation events, do the descriptions of the skills get updated? It was my general understanding that the answer was no... but I may be mistaken. Your new signature...
I know Nazis had the swastikas pointing in the other direction, but they also used red and black in their flag, so I can't quite help wondering if you are attempting to represent the Nazi ideology through your signature. Could you please shed some light on this, because so far, I'm finding it rather offensive, since what happened back under the Nazi regime was one of the most terrible and sad chapters of the history of mankind. Many people from many different cultures visit this site, and I think a symbol like that should be used in consideration of other peoples feelings towards it. Please know that I also know about the use of this symbol in other cultures, and if its a peaceful message your are representing with it, I apologize. LunarEffect 22:23, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

So its not similar to a swastika, nor is it not a swastika, it is a swastika. LunarEffect 22:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- The one that I'm using is Japanese for Buddhist temple & Indian for luck. I apologize for offending you, but it's Rememberance day here in Canada and the symbol makes people remember of the evil things the Nazi party did. - Ok, as I see it right now, I seem to have people on both sides of the fence. Some saying that it was rude to be so mad about getting simply welcomed, and some saying that I did drag on too long. I do wish for this to stop, I've agreed to stop & have tried to keep out of this conversation, so why is it still going on? Someone's number of contributions does not mean a damn
- Well obviously you haven't made yourself known or contributed enough to get a welcome message before lol. — 卍 Eloc 卍 20:22, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ya, I check out your user contributions. You probly didn't get a welcome sooner as you don't even have 50 edits yet. — 卍 Eloc 卍 20:26, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Look, dude, keep comments like that to yourself. That's just plain out hostile and rude and offensive and elitist (even to me, that wasn't part of that discussion). The number of users who regularly edit the wiki are a vast minority to those who don't, and that's perfectly fine. There's more than enough other good reasons to have an account on this wiki besides editing it. You just can't go around telling people "hi, you're a newbie, welcome to OUR wiki". Especially so when they've had edits since as early as May.
Similarly, I've seen you tell anons to register accounts randomly, even when it has nothing to do with what's being discussed. Please do not do that anymore. Just like no one needs to edit the wiki to have an account, no one needs to sign up an account to edit it. When you tell a new user to register an account they, not knowing who you are or how the wiki works, can very possibly be lead to believe that registering an account is necessary/mandatory/recommended/whatever. Again, that is not the case. So, please, don't do so anymore. Thanks. --Dirigible 12:24, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

He explained his reasoning for the post... he didn't say the guy was noob or invaluable or anything of the sort. He simply explained why he believes his welcome message appeared after the 6 months the account existed for. He didn't say "you're a newbie" - everyone has inferred that from his comments because they are all too sensitive to read them from a neutral viewpoint. Stop crucifying him - he wouldn't have posted the welcome message if he didn't believe the user was new. - Agreed with DG. -- (gem / talk) 00:05, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- No, just because he's not breaking any policies and has good intentions, us telling him he's doing something wrong doesn't mean we're bullying him. There's many mistakes one can do that aren't ban-worthy and are still unhealthy to the wiki and as the saying goes, that road is paved with good intentions. Criticism/advice/suggestions are not bullying. Do you really expect us to leave every problem unconfronted until it reaches the level of policy infraction and deserves a ban? Weren't people recently whining at sysops and bcrats and regular editors for not intervening when they thought something was wrong, until they had a policy to back them?
- Do you really think that I'm trying to bully Eloc by pointing out to him that making users register accounts goes against the idea of an open wiki, or that I'm bullying him when I note that that by taking that kind of condescending tone with other users just because they have few contributions he's antagonizing those who are the real reason why ANet decided to host a wiki in the first place? If you do, then you are simply wrong and are missing the reason why I decided to bother posting the above here today, after weeks of barely activity on this wiki. Do you really think I'm here trying to kick him while he's down? I'm not. It's simply about not letting some of the wiki's most basic ideas get lost. This place has forgotten so many others already. --Dirigible 01:56, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

- Japanese writing uses three different types of "letters": Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. Katakana is used for foreign words, borrowed from other languages or foreign names, it looks like a more "cornery (xD)" version of Hiragana. Hiragana and Kanjis are used for Japanese words as well as Japanese names...etc. Kanjis are the same "letters" you see in Chinese writing, so a person who can speak Japanese can read Chinese to a certain degree and vice versa, although a lot of the pronunciations are completely different (On and Kun readings or something like that). Some words in Japanese however are written exclusively in Hiragana, which looks a lot simpler than the Kanjis. As far as I know anything you can write with a Kanji can also be written in Hiragana...or Katakana for that matter, for reasons of simplicity and readability. If you are reading a modern Japanese text, you will likely see examples of all 3 letter-types. I hope I got all this right...long time since I last looked into my Japanese book xD LunarEffect 20:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

If you are reading a modern Japanese text, you will likely see examples of all 3 letter-types. I hope I got all this right...long time since I last looked into my Japanese book xD LunarEffect 20:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- chinese are always complex (similar to the right one in eloc's sig), when they look like that then it's hard to tell, but incomplex ones like eloc's right one are definetely japanese. symbols with circles and many 90° angles are korean. - Y0_ich_halt 19:51, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

- Ya. There was this whole fiasco with the Florida electronic voting machines, and Gore claims he had more votes, but nobody really knows. Also, on Youtube, there is a Saturday Night Live skit with an actor posing as Al Gore mentioning the 2000 election. It's obviously a joke, but the actor, "Al Gore", was touring his "trophy room", and in it is in award relating to the 2000 election. He said, roughly, I'm going by memory here: "Now this, this next award has nothing to do with An Inconvenient Truth. It's called a POPPY. It goes to that candidate for president who wins the most votes, but doesn't actually get to become president." Calor - talk 23:54, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Contagion, mini skill icons
Well, i know that one should use this in the skill section, but may these be used in the notes? Its not me that is disturbed by this, as this can also be useful with the icon, as some players may remember the skill without being forced to click on the link. but maybe there are several reasons for not doing this, e.g. because it enlarges the height of the lines. The notes are sentences, instead of only skill names. —ZerphaThe Improver 12:45, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

- hai, how can i add a picture to my signature? --Cursed Angel 00:30, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Take whatever image you want, upload it under something along the lines of "Image:User Cursed Angel sig icon.jpg". Then, go to my preferences, and edit the third input box down with the wiki code you want for your sig. Also, check the box right below the input one. To put the image in, put the image file name in brackets, as if linking it, then save your preferences. You can make additional changes with the font and such by editing the code some more. Note that the picture in your sig must be 19px x 19px, no larger. Calor - talk 00:59, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

- Lol, it's a start. I had problems editing my sig, too. For the image to redirect to your talk page, go to the image's file page. Edit the description and put in #REDIRECT User talk:Cursed Angel. Save. Now the image redirects to your talk page. EDIT: Half my post didn't save. I'll redo. Anyways, after redirecting to your talk page with the image, try using this code for your actual sig: Cursed Angel. That will make Cursed Angel direct to your userpage, and the image (if I got everything right) to your talk page. Knock yourself out :p. Calor - talk 15:48, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

- I wish we had those old colorful and good looking welcome templates back ... (oops, violation of Guild Wars Wiki:No Sarcasm again :/) poke | talk 19:57, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, it was. And I didn't bother reading through it at all, lol. — ク Eloc 貢 19:49, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- that was a long and boring welcome...--Cursed Angel 19:48, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Maybe welcome templates don't make people excited to contribute, but they sure make some people remove all the content from the talk pages, and then make the one who put the welcome template to come back and tell him that he just broke a policy (which is not really welcoming after a welcome). Welcome templates are evil, i say. (but again, there is this other "welcome" page that should get changed.. can't remember the link)--Fighterdoken 22:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- GWW:WELCOME? — ク Eloc 貢 22:06, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Nope, was about MediaWiki:Welcomecreation (took a while to find). I see it was changed after all, but still could become a bit more user friendly i guess.--Fighterdoken 22:15, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Feel free to propose a better text on the talk page :) (btw. Eloc, you need to archive) poke | talk 22:39, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- I never read that text when I created my account. And his page isn't longer than Gaile's yet :p. Calor — talk 22:42, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

GWW:SIGN
Would your signature be allowed under the new GWW:SIGN? It states "The user's signature may show at most one image (or icon)." -- br12 • (talk) • 22:01, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) It is allowed as mine is a character. The ク in my sig is equivalent to your Talk page link, and my 貢 is equivalent to a contributions link. — ク Eloc 貢 22:05, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) x2 I believe those are characters, not icons. And Eloc won't change his sig unless he wants :p. Check his archive. Calor — talk 22:06, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
